Set in the aftermath of World War II, the plot traces an English author who becomes acquainted with a literary society based in Guernsey through a series of letters. She finds out that the society was a front for a resistance group against the German occupation of the island during the war.

Intrigued she makes a trip to Guernsey to find out more herself. The movie was based on the book of the same name and I highly recommend the book instead.

The film focuses on Lawrence's life during World War I and its impact on the Arab World. It has stood the test of time and is considered one of the best British films of all time.

Set against the backdrop of the 1994 genocide in Rwanda, "Hotel Rwanda" is a hard hitting film that doesn't gloss over the tragedies of the period. During this period, the Hutus carried out mass killings of the Tutsis. The film is set in a hotel run by Paul, a Hutu, along with his wife Titiana, a Tutsi, and follows their attempts to save many lives while risking their own.

"Out of Africa" is based on Karen Blixen's book of the same name that was autobiographical in nature. The film starred Meryl Streep and Robert Redford in the lead roles. It won seven Oscars including ones for Best Picture and Best Director.

"Autumn in New York" is a typical tear-jerker - a playboy falls in love for the first time in his life. However, the sweet, young girl he falls for suffers from a terminal illness. The film starred Richard Gere and Winona Ryder in the lead roles.

"The Tailor of Panama" is a spy thriller based on a novel by John le Carre, who also contributed to the screenplay. Pierce Brosnan stars as an MI6 agent along with Geoffrey Rush, who plays the eponymous tailor of Panama. However, Rush was a formerly a convict and Brosnan uses this knowledge to get him to spy on the Panama government.

Originally told as a series of short stories, these were later converted into a novel by author Sally Benson titled "Meet Me in St. Louis". This inspired the 1944 film of the same name. The movie spans a year in the life of the Smith family with the finale coinciding with the 1904 World's Fair that was held in St. Louis and also known as the Louisiana Purchase Exposition.
