1. In which Asian city would you be able to visit the Victoria Memorial?

Answer: Kolkata, India

Lord Curzon, the then Viceroy of India, proposed the construction of a memorial to Queen Victoria on her death in 1901. Calcutta, as the city was earlier known, was the capital of the British government in India until 1911 and was therefore selected as the site of the memorial. Construction began in 1906 but was completed almost two decades later in 1921.

The building serves as a museum and is located on the banks of the Hooghly river.
2. Chosen as one of the 7 New Wonders of the World, the Christ the Redeemer statue overlooks which South American city?

Answer: Rio de Janeiro

This Art Deco statue of Jesus Christ was designed by Paul Landowski, a French sculptor. It was completed in 1931 and the statue itself has a height of 30 meters. It was installed at the peak of the Corcovado mountain, giving the impression of the statue with arms widespread looking over the city of Rio de Janeiro.

The Christ the Redeemer statue is considered one of the symbols of not just Rio de Janeiro, but the entire country of Brazil. It has also inspired similar statues in other parts of the world.
3. Which city is home to the structure shown in the picture?

Answer: Sydney

The Opera House is one of the symbols of the Australian city of Sydney. This iconic building was designed by Danish architect Jørn Utzon, who was selected through an international competition. The white shell like roof of the building is made to resemble the sails of the boats in the harbour. In 2007, the Opera House was designated as a UNESCO World Heritage site.
4. The Sacré-Coeur Basilica is found in which European city?

Answer: Paris

The Sacré-Coeur Basilica is a Roman Catholic church located in Paris, France. It was built on the top of the Montmartre hill, giving a good view of the city. The white colour is due to the use of travertine, a form of limestone, in its construction.
5. Pamukkale in Turkey is famous for its hot springs. What does the name "Pamukkale" mean?

Answer: Cotton Castle

Pamukkale means 'cotton castle' in Turkish. It was so named due to the appearance of the limestone travertines that cover the area. The thermal hot springs, famed for their healing properties, have led to this region attracting people since ancient times. Close to the hot springs are the ruins of Hieropolis, an ancient Greek city.
6. This is the official residence of which of these?

Answer: President of USA

The White House has served as the official residence of the President of the United States of America since 1800. 7. The Fisherman's Bastion in Budapest overlooks which European river?

Answer: Danube

The Danube river flows through the city of Budapest with many of the city's famous structures located along its banks. One of these is the Fisherman's Bastion. It is commonly accepted that the bastion was named in honour of the fishermen who helped to protect the city during the Middle Ages.

8. This castle was the inspiration for Disneyland's Sleeping Beauty castle.

Answer: True

The palace in the photo is Neuschwanstein Castle. It was built by King Ludwig II of Bavaria in the 19th century. Unlike most other such castles, it was funded by the king himself without resorting to public funds and taxes. The castle is open to tourists and is a popular attraction of the region.
9. What rock is responsible for the White Cliffs of Dover?

Answer: Chalk

The White Cliffs of Dover get their colour from chalk, a soft, sedimentary rock. The laying down of multiple tiers of sediment caused the underlying layers to solidify into chalk. The cliffs are located at the point of England that is closest to the European continent and on a clear day can be seen from France.

They were often the last sight of England for soldiers leaving for war and have therefore been immortalized in many songs and poems.
10. The Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque is the largest mosque of which country?

Answer: United Arab Emirates

Construction on the mosque began in 1996 and it was completed only in 2007. Located in Abu Dhabi, the capital of the United Arab Emirates, the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque is the largest mosque in the country.
