Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. "You see, in this world there's two kinds of people, my friend. Those with loaded guns, and those who dig. You dig." In which movie does Clint say this quote to Tuco?

Answer: The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly

After the climactic shootout between the Man With No Name (Clint Eastwood), Tuco (Eli Wallach), and Angel Eyes (Lee Van Cleef), Clint issues this quote at the "unknown" grave next to Arch Stanton. While Tuco is digging, Clint sets up the rope which he forces Tuco to put on, leaving him dangling precariously on a wood cross. "The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly" follows three men during the Civil War searching for a hidden stash of gold taken in a robbery.
2. Clint Eastwood: "Seems like whenever I get to liking someone, they ain't around for long." Chief Dan George: "I notice when you get to disliking someone, they ain't around for long neither." Does this exchange take place in "High Plains Drifter"?

Answer: No

The quotes are from "The Outlaw Josey Wales", in which Clint plays a man whose family was murdered by Union soldiers, and who is hunted after refusing to surrender at the end of the war. After escaping a trap by soldiers, with help from the Chief and an Indian woman, Clint and Chief Dan George are riding on the plains. Clint figures that they wouldn't be seeing the Indian woman again and states the above classic line.
3. "It's a hell of a thing, killing a man. Take away all he's got and all he's ever gonna have." Will Munny says these lines in which movie?

Answer: Unforgiven

Will Munny utters this quote after the Schofield Kid kills his first man and says "It don't seem real... how he ain't gonna never breathe again, ever... now he's dead. And the other one too. All on account of pulling a trigger." "Unforgiven" was released in 1992. The movie won four Academy Awards for Best Film, Best Director (Clint Eastwood), Best Actor in a Supporting Role (Gene Hackman), and Best Film Editing. In the movie, Clint plays a retired gunfighter who comes out of retirement when he is hired by a group of prostitutes who are being unfairly treated.
4. During which film's climactic scene, does Clint say to Ramon, "When a man with a .45 meets a man with a rifle, you said the man with the pistol's a dead man. Let's see if that's true."?

Answer: A Fistful of Dollars

"When a man with a .45 meets a man with a rifle, the man with a pistol will be a dead man" is said earlier in the movie when Ramon Rojo and Clint are target practicing on a suit of armor. This quote is actually a known Mexican proverb. The tagline for the movie was "This short cigar belongs to a man with no name.

This long gun belongs to a man with no name. This poncho belongs to a man with no name. He's going to trigger a whole new style in adventure." The movie was released in 1964 and was the first of the triology of Leone produced movies starring Clint Eastwood.
5. "No, old man. Thought I was having trouble with my adding but it's all right now." In which Eastwood western is this the last spoken line?

Answer: For A Few Dollars More

In the movie, Clint is loading up the dead men from Indio's gang and while counting their reward value, realizes he is short one man. He wheels and fires, killing the last one. Lee Van Cleef yells out "Any trouble, Boy?" and Clint responds with the quote above as the theme music rises up. Clint and Lee become unlikely partners in the movie. Clint is looking for bounty money, and Lee is seeking revenge on the man who killed his sister.
6. "Sister, if you gonna bless them, you bless them dry!" is a quote from "Two _____ for Sister Sara." What word is missing from the movie title?

Answer: Mules

While "Two Mules for Sister Sara" was a western, it was the only one billed as a comedy (unless you count "Paint Your Wagon!"). The film, released in 1970, also starred Shirley MacLaine as an odd nun named Sister Sara. Whenever Clint would catch Sister Sara doing something wrong or illegal, she would always claim that the Church allowed it.
7. When Clint confronts a man who says he doesn't remember him, he tells him, "When you hang a man, you better look at him." Which movie, which also features Pat Hingle, is this line from?

Answer: Hang 'Em High

Clint Eastwood plays Marshal Jed Cooper, a man wrongly hanged and left for dead by a group of vigilantes. He is hired by Judge Fenton and sets out to arrest all of the members of the hanging party. He confronts Reno (played by Joseph Sirola) in a bar.

Despite his best efforts to take him alive, Reno goes for his gun and Jed kills him. "Hang 'Em High" was released in 1968 and was co-written by Leonard Freeman, who is known for producing and writing "Hawaii Five-O."
8. At the end of this film, while in the cemetery, Mordecai says, "I'm just about done here. I never did know your name," to Clint as he rides out of town. Clint responds "Yes, you do." Which Clint movie features this line and a town called Lago?

Answer: High Plains Drifter

After dispatching the bad guys, Clint mounts up and heads out of town. Mordecai is carving a wood grave marker. After saying the above lines, the camera shows the name on the grave: Jim Duncan, the murdered sheriff that the movie implies is the mysterious stranger come back for revenge. Clint rides off and disappears into the shimmering desert heat.

Interesting side note: One of the other graves in the cemetery is marked "Sergio Leone," the director of the "Man With No Name" films.
9. Uh oh! The dreaded Redlegs have cornered Eastwood in front of the store. They hesitate and Clint says, "Are you going to pull those pistols or whistle Dixie?" Which film is this line from?

Answer: The Outlaw Josey Wales

Clint issues this challenge while he is holding two bags of sundries. Needless to say, all of the men are outgunned by Clint, who calmly kills the men while Chief Dan George takes care of the last one. "The Outlaw Josey Wales" was released in 1976 and directed by Clint Eastwood. Throughout the movie, the Redlegs are trying to track down and kill Josey Wales, who is an ex-soldier of the Confederate Army who refused to surrender when he saw his fellow unarmed soldiers murdered by the Redlegs when they surrendered.
10. It's not all about guns for Clint. After taking care of a group of men attacking a gold prospector, he says, "There's nothing like a nice piece of hickory," in which movie?

Answer: Pale Rider

Another "mysterious" rider movie for Clint. Known only as "Preacher," he confronts a group of LaHood's men beating up prospector Hull Barret, played by Michael Moriarty. Grabbing an axe handle, he quickly disables all the men, after which he utters the above phrase. Eastwood directed and produced the film which was released in 1985.

He didn't do another western until the Academy Award-winning "Unforgiven" in 1992.
