Clint is visiting Madison County, Iowa to shoot pictures for a story on their famous covered bridges. He meets a married woman with two children who is going to be alone for four days. She is talking about her kids and she remarks that they aren't kids anymore, because things change. That's when Clint makes his observation about change.

They fall in love, a love that lasts for the rest of their lives, even though they never see each other again. The comment about things changing is certainly true.

In this movie Clint Eastwood is a former Confederate raider who escapes after the rest of his unit surrenders and is massacred by the Union soldiers. He becomes an outlaw with a high price on his head. Throughout the movie he picks up a following as he rescues one person after another.

He is leaving the group to go and confront the Indian tribe whose land they are on and he does not expect to return. That is when he makes his statement, giving the best advice he can to the group on what to do when the expected Indian attack comes.

While burglarizing a mansion, Clint witnesses the president of the United States in a brawl with the woman of the house. As she attempts to stab him to protect herself, she is shot and killed by his bodyguards. Throughout the movie the President's bodyguards are trying to capture him to silence him.

In one scene he is being interviewed by an agent, ostensibly to get his views on who might have done the burglary. As the interview concludes the agent says that he will be back the next day and that is when Clint makes his statement, making the point that we all must die, so you should enjoy life today because there is no promise that there will be a tomorrow for you.

Answer: The Mule

In "The Mule", Clint Eastwood is an 80-year old man who is broke and his house has been foreclosed on him, so he unwittingly takes a job as a mule, transporting drugs for a Mexican cartel. While making his last drug run, he gets word that his wife is on her deathbed. He runs to her and he probably believes he is offering her comfort by saying that nobody wants to live to 100, except 99-year-olds.

He makes the point that no one really wants to be a broken-down 100-year-old person, but if you're 99 years old and the only choices are being that centenarian, or being dead, you just might change your mind. Sort of like the old adage that it is difficult to judge a situation until you have to face it.

In the scene where he makes the statement, he is driving by three thugs standing outside a store in a seedy part of town. When he sees that they are harassing his neighbor, he stops to rescue her. As he is talking, his coat falls open revealing his shoulder holster with the automatic in the holster plainly visible.

But it is good advice to not mess with people you don't know because you have no idea how they will react or what they are capable of.

This movie was a sequel to "Every Which Way but Loose", starring Clint and co-starring Clyde the orangutan. In the scene where he makes his statement, he's making up with his estranged girlfriend by offering her a place to stay. She tells him she doesn't need any handouts and Clint replies with his explanation of the difference between a handout and a hand up. Eastwood points out a great truth - that the government gives you handouts, and they're very impersonal.

But friends give you a hand up when it's needed and these are generally very personal.

In "Pale Rider", Clint Eastwood plays a preacher who comes into town to help the small-town gold miners who are being terrorized by the evil gold company that is bullying the miners. The mining leader tells Clint that he had been trying for months to break up a huge rock in a stream because he felt there was gold under it. Clint grabs a sledge hammer and makes his statement about using a little sweat and hard work to solve most problems.

His point in the quote is that the best way to solve a problem is to just take it head on.

Although this quote could easily come from nearly every Clint Eastwood movie ever made, it comes from "Pink Cadillac". In this movie a bail jumper (Bernadette Peters) is trying to keep ahead of her husband and his Neo-Nazi friends. She steals her husband's pink Cadillac which, unknown to her, has the gang's money hidden in it.

They kidnap her child to hold for ransom to get their money back, but instead of giving her the baby, they try to kill her and Clint. They decide to invade the gang's camp to get her baby back and she asks for a gun. Clint denies her request explaining that he wants to be the one controlling the guns. That comment about gun control is certainly sound advice for anyone.

Clint is being asked if he can fly the jet because the brass has decided to steal the jet from a Russian base, and they need someone who understands Russian to fly it back to U.S. soil because it operates off thought rather traditional stick controls.

Norman Vincent Peale said "Believe in yourself! Have faith in your abilities! Without a humble but reasonable confidence in your own powers you cannot be successful or happy". Our trust in ourselves can make things happen, like Clint Eastwood's character in this movie, he was asked if he could fly the plane and all he did was believe in himself, that he was the best and he was the right one to fly the plane. And like in life, if you think you are going to fail even before a task has started, then you probably will, this quote teaches us to have courage and believe in ourselves.
