Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In what year was "Scent of a Woman" released?

Answer: 1992

And when the Oscars were given in 1993, Pacino got his! Just think of all the others he should have gotten!
2. Who directed the film?

Answer: Martin Brest

Brest didn't direct a lot of movies in the twentieth century, but most of them were good ones, like "Going in Style", "Beverly Hills Cop", "Midnight Run", and "Meet Joe Black". He was born in the Bronx in 1951.
3. What is the name of the school Charlie (Chris O'Donnell) goes to?

Answer: Baird

Baird is another one of those prep schools like the one in "Dead Poets Society". Is Charlie truly a "Baird man"? Nope, he's much better than that! The real-life school where filming was done is actually the Emma Willard School in Troy, New York. It was the first US secondary school for women.
4. Charlie's school and Frank Slade's residence are both in the same state. What state is it?

Answer: New Hampshire

At first it seems that it might be Massachusetts since they fly out of Logan Airport, but Charlie says at least twice that it's in New Hampshire. That state's motto is "Live free or die". The best one, in my opinion.
5. What is or was Frank's military rank?

Answer: Lieutenant Colonel

Frank is a retired lieutenant colonel. Charlie addresses Frank as lieutenant at first, but Frank sets him straight immediately. Lieutenant colonel (silver oak leaf insignia) is one grade above major (gold oak leaf) and one below full colonel (eagle).
6. Frank and Charlie fly first class to New York City.

Answer: True

First class from Logan to La Guardia, although the latter name isn't mentioned. That's where flights from Boston arrive. Not a very long flight but, for them, a very comfortable one.
7. According to Frank, what is the bellboy's nationality or ethnic background?

Answer: Puerto Rican

Frank figures out the bellboy's background. He says, "Puerto Ricans. They make the best infantrymen". I added the phrase "ethnic background" because Puerto Ricans are actually Americans because their island is a commonwealth of the United States. "Nobody knows in America/Puerto Rico's in America": Stephen Sondheim, "West Side Story".
8. The Oak Room is in the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel.

Answer: False

The Oak Room, which Charlie describes as a "$24 hamburger restaurant", is in the Plaza Hotel, not very far from the Waldorf, but not in it. I admit this is a sneaky question. This can be determined by the fact that they have to take a limo to get there. The Oak Room is where Cary Grant is eating lunch when he's abducted in "North by Northwest". The kidnappers think he's George Kaplan.
9. Who plays the beautiful young woman who dances the tango with Frank?

Answer: Gabrielle Anwar

All of these ladies are beauties. Furlani played the daughter in "Meet Joe Black". And if you haven't seen that movie, do so right away, if only to look at her or Brad Pitt or both, depending on your taste. Pitt's performance is also a standout. Anwar is from England - she was also in "Body Snatchers", "For Love or Money", and "The Three Musketeers".
10. In the memorable, outrageous Thanksgiving dinner sequence, what actor plays Frank's nephew Randy, the man Frank almost kills?

Answer: Bradley Whitford

Randy lashes back at Frank in return for Frank's rudeness. Frank tolerates this, but when Randy persists in addressing Charlie as Chuckie, Frank pins him to the wall with a painful "Ranger chokehold". Blind he may be, but Frank is not disabled. Whitford also was in "Philadelphia", "The Client", and "Presumed Innocent".

At the turn of the century, he was best known for his role as Josh Lyman on "The West Wing". In "Scent", Philip Seymour Hoffman played George Willis, Junior, and James Rebhorn played the ratty headmaster. Hope you enjoyed my quiz. Back soon with more on "Scent". Mickey. Source: imdb.com
