Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. According to Colonel Frank (Al Pacino), what do you do when you're doing the tango and you make a mistake and get all tangled up?

Answer: "you just tango on"

"No mistakes in the tango. No. Not like life. Simple. That's what makes the tango so great. If you make a mistake and get all tangled up, you just tango on." Just another example of the great dialogue in this smashing screenplay. Since he knows Mr. Daniel so well, Frank refers to him as John instead of Jack.
2. How was Frank blinded?

Answer: in an explosion

Frank's nephew Randy tells the story, and Frank doesn't deny it. Frank had had too much to drink and was conducting a training exercise with some hand grenades, juggling them according to Randy, and one went off, blinding Frank.
3. In the hotel, Charlie is watching a black-and-white sitcom. What show is it?

Answer: The Munsters

On the sitcom, two men, apparently detectives, knock on the door, and, when Herman answers it, they're a bit surprised, to say the least.
4. Two cars that play an important part in the movie are the headmaster's car and the one Frank "test drives." What are the makes?

Answer: Jaguar and Ferrari

The headmaster was apparently given the Jag by the school's directors. However, it got royally trashed in the big practical joke scene. Frank chose Ferrari, one of the world's greatest cars, for what he thought would be his last drive.
5. Your knowledge of New York City geography will help here. In what NYC borough do Frank and Charlie take their little joy ride?

Answer: Brooklyn

You can see the Brooklyn Bridge in the background, and Manhattan is visible across the river.
6. Frank was in the army. What other branch of the military is mentioned in the movie?

Answer: the Coast Guard

Police officer Gore, who stops Frank for speeding, says he was in the Coast Guard. Fortunately, Gore doesn't realize Frank is blind.
7. What type of weapon does Frank use in his suicide attempt?

Answer: a .45 semi automatic

The .45 automatic is, or was, a standard sidearm for U.S. Army officers.
8. In which other twentieth-century movie, besides "Scent of a Woman", did Al Pacino and Chris O'Donnell co-star?

Answer: none

"Scent" was their only twentieth-century pairing. O'Donnell is well known for playing Robin, AKA Dick Grayson, in "Batman Forever" and "Batman and Robin". He got his start in a McDonald's commercial.
9. In the credits, we learn that the character of Frank was inspired by a character in a film made outside the U.S. In what country was the film made?

Answer: Italy

The title is "Profumo di Donna", made in Italy in 1974.
10. What is the title of the non-American film that inspired "Scent of a Woman"?

Answer: Profumo di Donna

The film was made in Italy in 1974. The Frank character was a captain, and the Charlie character, a military cadet. Hope you enjoyed my quiz, and, if it got you to watch the movie again, so much the better!
