Surpisingly, this is my first movie quote quiz for this site. This one covers movies released between 1980 and 1989, inclusive. More to follow, if response is favorable. Good luck!

Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. 'A lot of alliteration from anxious anchors placed in powerful posts!'

Answer: Broadcast News

In my opinion, the best screenplay of the decade, by James L. Brooks. This line is spoken by a rather inebriated Aaron Altman (Albert Brooks -- no relation) watching Tom Grunick (William Hurt) on the network news. Tom tends to overuse alliteration in his copy, a fact obviously not overlooked by Aaron.
2. 'That must be one hell of a planet you people come from!'

Answer: Flash Gordon

One of my favorite bad movies of all time. Prince Vultan (Brian Blessed) says this to Flash Gordon (Sam J. Jones) after Flash announces that he plans to sacrifice his own life in order to save the day. Unfortunately, Flash survives, and exposes us to yet more of his horrendous atttempts at acting.
3. 'Grampa...I'm kinda glad I got your blood in me.'

Answer: Vision Quest

When high school wrestling prodigy Loudon Swain (Matthew Modine) tries to convince his grandfather to leave his desolate mountain cabin and move in with the family, the old man steadfastly refuses. Loudon then speaks the above line out of admiration for his grandfather's resolve. Grampa's response? 'Don't let it go to your head.' Heh.
4. 'I've never been much of a bather.'

Answer: The Fly

As the horrific physical transformation of Dr. Seth Brundle (Jeff Goldblum) progresses, Veronica (Geena Davis) notes that he not only looks bad, but smells bad. Brundle responds with the above line.
5. 'You must have carnal knowledge -- of a *lady*, this time -- on the premises.'

Answer: Top Gun

Goose (Anthony Edwards) manages to slip in a little joke while explaining the details of the twenty-dollar bet he has just made with Maverick (Tom Cruise).
6. 'Hey, I'm a paisan, eh?! What do you want me to do -- sweat garlic for you? Cook up a pot of ragu? Sing an opera? Lose a war?'

Answer: Running Scared

Chicago police officer Ray Hughes (Gregory Hines) pretends to be his partner, Danny Costanzo (Billy Crystal), in order to dodge a man they think is at the precinct house to serve Danny a summons. Since Ray is black, the man expresses some doubt as to whether he is actually named Costanzo. The above quote is Ray's response.
7. 'It starts in your stomach. You know, like a tickling? And then it pulls you. The tickling pulls you.'

Answer: Poltergeist

Diane Freeling (JoBeth Williams) is attempting to explain to her husband Steven (Craig T. Nelson) one of the more unusual paranormal phenomena occurring in their home.
8. 'The only reason you're still breathing is 'cause I never kissed you.'

Answer: Tootsie

After the cross-dressing ruse enacted by Michael Dorsey (Dustin Hoffman) has been revealed on national television, he tracks down Les Nichols (Charles Durning), the man who actually proposed to Michael's female alias, not knowing that "Dorothy Michaels" was a man in disguise. Les is not initially pleased to see Michael, and delivers the above line to him.
9. 'I hate college. It's like high school with ashtrays.'

Answer: She's Having a Baby

Jake Briggs (Kevin Bacon) is lamenting the path he's taken by pursuing a graduate degree. (I'm pretty sure I'm the only person I know who calls 'She's Having a Baby' his favorite John Hughes film.)
10. 'You give me trouble. People don't do that around here. So you better grow some eyes in the back of your head...'cause you won't know when it's comin'.'

Answer: My Bodyguard

Melvin Moody (Matt Dillon) issues fair warning to Clifford Peache (Chris Makepeace) in one of my favorite movies of all time. Fabulous Chicago location shooting, a brilliant score by Dave Grusin, and a perfect snapshot of what can happen when bullies step into the world of a teenager and try to ruin it. Highly recommended.
11. 'Your mother puts license plates in your underwear? How do you sit?'

Answer: Real Genius

As Chris Knight (Val Kilmer) and Mitch Taylor (Gabe Jarret) are about to start dismantling the car of their nemesis Kent (Robert Prescott), Chris notes that 'Kent puts his name on his license plate.' Mitch responds with, 'My mother does the same thing to my underwear.' The line above is Chris' retort. 'Real Genius' is a stupendously funny movie. Go out and rent it.
12. 'Did you know your last name's an adverb?'

Answer: Johnny Dangerously

Lil Sheridan (Marilu Henner) says this to Johnny Dangerously (Michael Keaton) after he introduces himself. A rather silly movie...but hey, at least it has a theme song by 'Weird Al' Yankovic. =)
13. 'You are not the President. No one who leads so many would kneel so quickly.'

Answer: Superman II

That crafty General Zod (Terence Stamp) -- not only does he sense that the man who initally surrenders to him is not in fact the President of the United States, but he also seems to know how to speak English...even in the vacuum of space. =)
14. 'You ask for miracles? I give you the FBI.'

Answer: Die Hard

Hans Gruber (Alan Rickman) has kept one part of his plan to steal bearer bonds from the impregnable vault of the Nakatomi Building to himself: he knows that once the FBI arrive on the scene of a terrorist attack, they routinely kill the power in the hijacked building, thus disengaging the electromagnetic lock keeping the vault safe from entry. Earlier in the film, Theo (Clarence Gilyard, Jr.) had stated that it would take a miracle to disrupt the EM lock; Hans speaks the above quote to him once the power has been cut and the vault door swings open.
15. 'There's a sign over the urinal that says, 'Please don't eat the big white mint'!'

Answer: Road House

Wade Garrett (Sam Elliott) is describing the level of 'class' present at the bar where he currently works as a bouncer. Like 'Flash Gordon,' 'Road House' is hard to beat as an amusingly putrid film.
