'Ladies Choice' is a song that Link Larkin (portrayed by Zac Efron) performs. It was written especially for this film to recreate a genuine 60s dance hop. Zac Efron has said that this was one of his favourite scenes to film, as it was truly like being back in the 60s!

The nickname for this song on set was 'You Can't Stop to Breathe' due to the fast pace and many lyrics that the song contains.

'The Legend of Miss Baltimore Crabs' is sung by Velma Von Tussle (Michelle Pfeiffer), whilst the Council are auditioning for a new member.
The song is about Velma winning a beauty pageant in her younger years and the lengths she went to. The song is interjected with the female Council members interviewing the hopeful candidates.

'The New Girl in Town' is the soundtrack for the montage that follows Tracy's appointment to Council member on 'The Corny Collins Show'. It shows her increasing popularity, Velma's displeasure at Tracy's growing fan unit and Wilbur Turnblad selling merchandise with Tracy's face on it.
This song is begun with Council members Amber (Brittany Snow), Tammy (Hayley Podschun) and Shelley (Sarah Jane Jenson) singing. Midway through the song Maybelle is heard to say;
"Ladies! Step aside!"
Then the fictional group 'The Dynamites' take over, singing the song with a more Motown beat.
"The New Girl in Town" was originally written for the Broadway show but never used.

'Good Morning Baltimore' is the first song in the film. We see Tracy waking up and making her way to school. She misses her school bus and hitches a ride atop of a large van!
The song ends as Tracy reaches school and bell rings. Tracy's walk through the streets helps us to visualise the decade in which the film is set.

'Welcome to the 60's' is sung by Tracy and Edna (John Travolta), as Tracy convinces her mother to get herself back into the world, rather than staying in the house all day running her laundry.Edna is at first reluctant, then after receiving a makeover at the hands of Mr Pinky's Hefty Hideaway employees she gains the confidence boost to go out and have some fun!
Gina Lollobrigada was an Italian actress, famous for her role of Esmeralda in 'The Hunchback of Notre Dame'. Her nickname was 'The Mona Lisa of the Twentieth Century' or 'La Lollo'.

Tracy sings 'I Can Hear the Bells' after Link accidentally bumps into her. In the song she claims that because he bumped her she now knows they are meant to be together forever.
Tracy sings about six rounds in total, the other four are;

'You're Timeless to Me' is the name of the duet sung by Edna and Wilbur (Christopher Walken) Turnblad after Velma tries to ruin their marriage. They confirm that they will love each other no matter what! The song contains a hilarious tango between Edna and Wilbur!

'The Nicest Kids in Town' is the introductory song for 'The Corny Collins Show'. The first time we hear this song Penny and Tracy have rushed home from school to watch the show and they dance along.
The reprise takes place when Tracy joins the Council on the show, after Link introduces himself Tracy takes her turn!

Motormouth Maybelle sings 'Big Blonde and Beautiful' at the party she throws, we later find out this is because Negro Day has been cancelled and she wanted it to go out with a bang. When Edna arrives to take Tracy home, Maybelle sings about bigger being better. Edna goes home and sings the song in a reprise alongside Velma, who is seducing Wilbur in the joke shop.
The reprise was not in the Broadway version of the show, but added at Michelle Pfeiffer's insistence.

"I Know Where I've Been" is a very emotional song that Maybelle sings about the struggle that her race has been through. They sing this as they go on their rally, they intend for it to be a peaceful protest but the police make it difficult for them to pass and it ends in a fight.

"It's Hairspray!" is sung by Corny Collins (James Marsden) and the Council Members at the opening of the 'Miss Teenage Hairspray' pageant. In the song he claims the only thing better than hairspray is him!
