Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. 'Ma, what's wrong? I haven't seen you cry since Marvin Gaye died.'

Answer: Love and Basketball

This moment between Omar Epps and Debbi Morgan comes when she's sitting outside in the dark and he finds her crying there. He asks her what happened and she shows him the pictures of his father with another woman. I think it's heartbreaking because it seemed like they had a pretty good marriage, but then it all falls apart.

The development of the relationships in this film is excellent. This movie makes me cry every time!
2. 'Tape needs glue. Glue is what makes it tape and not paper.'

Answer: The House of Yes

Jackie-O says this at the beginning of the movie to her mother when she's talking about taping the windows to prevent hurricane damage. Parker Posey (speaker of this quote) is one of my favorite actresses. She is literally a comedic genius, although Wendy MacLeod's script for this film is pretty funny too. She actually adapted it from her own play of the same title.
3. 'Holly Pituto, I don't ever want to hear you talk about that plane crash again.'

Answer: Since You've Been Gone

Duncan says this to Holly when they're bonding near the end of the film. Holly has made a career out of being a motivational speaker because she was the only survivor of a plane crash, but Duncan thinks she's letting that event define her. This movie is little-known but fabulous! David Schwimmer and Lara Flynn Boyle are in it. For some reason class reunion movies are always good, aren't they?
4. 'There's a difference between like and love. Because I like my Skechers, but I love my Prada backpack.'

Answer: 10 Things I Hate About You

A question in the teen movie genre. Bianca says this to Chastity as they're walking through their high school. Chastity answers, "But I love my Skechers," to which Bianca responds "That's because you don't have a Prada backpack." Cameron notices Bianca a moment later and falls in love, inspiring his "Taming of the Shrew" like plan.
5. 'Do you understand the words that are coming out of my mouth?'

Answer: Rush Hour

This could have been the tag line to 'Rush Hour'. Chris Tucker says this to Jackie Chan several times, the first one coming when they are first partnered and Tucker literally isn't sure Chan understands English. Then in 'Rush Hour 2' Chan turns it around and says it to Tucker! The other movies are classic as well, especially 'The Best Man'.
6. 'I'm not a nymphomaniac. I'm a pathological liar.'

Answer: The Breakfast Club

Ah, the 80's. Ally Sheedy definitely stood out in this movie and set a pace for herself to play off-kilter characters forever more. After not speaking for nearly the entire film she blurts this out! It must have been challenging to play a major character with so little dialogue.
7. 'These are my two sons, Seth and Reuben.'

Answer: Cold Comfort Farm

Judith introduces her sons to Flora when she arrives. The irony, of course, is that Flora had just mused that the farmhouse she was going to visit was just the type of place likely to be populated by oversexed farmboys with names like Seth and Reuben.

This movie is hysterical, and if you've never seen it, you must! Kate Beckinsale is great as Flora, proving she actually could act before Hollywood sucked her into its black hole with 'Pearl Harbor'.
8. 'I like white silk scarves. They're good for all occasions.'

Answer: Basic Instinct

It seems like Michael Douglas is always being victimized by women in his movies ('Disclosure', anyone?). I think this is basically the only memorable movie Sharon Stone has ever made. She says this line when she's being questioned about the murder of her lover.
9. 'I'm just going to go into the kitchen and fix myself a Dr. Pepper.'

Answer: Auntie Mame

A cult classic, I think. Gooch is always going into the kitchen to get a Dr. Pepper since she only drinks soft drinks and the one time she drinks alcohol she gets herself pregnant! The Rosalind Russell version (this one) is so much better than the Lucille Ball version of 'Mame'.
10. 'Cut off one of his fingers. The little one.'

Answer: Reservoir Dogs

I just had to throw this one in there. It's one of those lines destined to become a classic, like "Play it again, Sam", only gorier. Mr. White instructs Mr. Orange to do this to the manager of the jewelry store they're about to rob, if he resists the heist. I think this movie was perfectly cast, especially with Harvey Keitel as Mr. White and Michael Madsen as Mr. Blonde.
