Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Do you know the 1985 movie that depicts Cher protecting Rocky Dennis who has craniodiaphyseal dysplasia?

Answer: Mask

This movie was based on the true story of Rocky Dennis, played by Eric Stoltz. Craniodiaphyseal dysplasia is a disfiguring disease caused by cranial enlargements and is also known as lionitis. This movie is about the trials Rocky faced as a boy suffering from this disease. Cher won the Cannes Film Festival Best Actress award for this movie.
2. Can you name the movie where Cher plays a Sicilian-American widow from New York who falls in love with Nicolas Cage?

Answer: Moonstruck

Cher plays Loretta, a 37 year old widow who believes that her first husband was hit by a bus and died because they were cursed for not following tradition. Her boyfriend Johnny, played by Danny Aiello, proposes to her and asks that she invite his younger brother Ronny (Nicolas Cage) to the wedding.

After Loretta meets Ronny, well "That's Amore". Cher won the Academy Award for Best Actress in this film. That's two Best Actress awards for those of you who thought she just won awards for her musical talent.
3. Which film stars talking animals on an Australian sheep farm?

Answer: Babe

Babe is an orphaned piglet raised by sheepdogs. Naturally, all the animals on the farm laugh when Babe wants to work as a sheepdog too. But Babe is supported by Ferdinand the duck who pretends to be a rooster to avoid becoming Sunday dinner. The animals soon realize that Babe can talk to the sheep and simply ask politely for them to obey rather then barking and biting like the dogs. Babe goes on to win the local sheep-herding competition. Christine Cavanaugh was the voice of Babe.

She has done many voices for "The Simpsons" and was the voice of Chuckie from "Rugrats". Jim Henson's Creature Shop won the Academy Award for Best Visual Effects.
4. Can you name the musical fantasy that Jim Henson directed? Hint: It will AMAZE you.

Answer: Labyrinth

Jennifer Connelly plays 15 year old Sarah, who enters the labryinth, a large maze, to find her baby brother who was stolen by the Goblin King played by David Bowie. Maybe Frank Oz as the Wiseman thought he could help Sarah find her way home. OK, so he wasn't a wizard and she wasn't from Kansas.
5. Which movie had the tag line "In space, no one can hear you scream."?

Answer: Alien

This movie, directed by Ridley Scott and starring Sigourney Weaver as Ripley, won the Saturn Award for Best Science Fiction Film. Ripley and her fellow crew mates are on their way back to Earth when they receive a distress signal from a nearby planetoid. On landing, their spacecraft is damaged and they find that the distress signal was actually a warning coming from a deserted spacecraft. Now comes the horror when they find a very scary alien creature that is impossible to kill, mainly because it bleeds acid-like blood that just damages the spacecraft even more. Spoiler alert: Ripley and her cat Jones are the only two to make it back to Earth alive.
6. Name the movie that might make you want to roast some marshmallows with Sigourney Weaver on a Saturday night.

Answer: Ghostbusters

"Ghostbusters" is a comedy starring Bill Murray and Dan Aykroyd, both formerly of "Saturday Night Live", who start a ghost catching business in New York city with Harold Ramis. Sigourney Weaver hires the Ghostbusters and is saved when they destroy the giant Stay Puft Marshmallow Man.

Originally, Dan Aykroyd wrote this movie for himself and John Belushi, but had to replace him with Bill Murray due to John's untimely death.
7. Do you know the movie that scared Roy Scheider and New England summer vacationers from swimming in the ocean?

Answer: Jaws

"Jaws", set in the fictional town of Amity Island, was actually filmed on the Island of Martha's Vineyard. The iconic music predicting the shark's appearance makes this a real thriller, since we don't actually see the giant man-eating great white shark until later in the movie. This movie began my love of all things shark related and anything directed by Steven Spielberg.
8. Can you name the Steven Spielberg film that casts JoBeth Williams and Craig T. Nelson as the parents of Carol Anne?

Answer: Poltergeist

Steven Spielberg wrote and produced "Poltergeist". Since he was also directing the movie "E.T." and the DGA (Director's Guild of America) rules prevented him from taking over as director of "Poltergeist", he chose to remain a producer for this movie. "Poltergeist" is a horror film about ghosts scaring the Freeling family, and the young daughter Carol Anne in particular.
9. Do you know which Disney animation film had Robin Williams stuck in a lamp for 10,000 years?

Answer: Aladdin

Wow, that's worse then "One Thousand and One Arabian Nights" which the story of Aladdin is one of. Robin Williams is the voice of the Genie, released from the magic lamp by Aladdin, in this animated Disney musical. Aladdin, a street urchin, uses his first of three wishes to become a prince so he may marry his friend Princess Jasmine.

The evil Jafar also wants to marry Princess Jasmine so he steals the lamp from Aladdin to become the Genie's new master and uses his first two wishes to become Sultan and the most powerful sorcerer.

When Aladdin tells Jafar that the Genie is more powerful than any sorcerer, Jafar uses his last wish to become a genie only to be banished into his own lamp now. Aladdin and Princess Jasmine marry and set the Genie (Robin Williams) free.
10. Can you name this Disney classic that features Mickey Mouse as The Sorcerer's Apprentice, dancing hippos in tutus, and a symphony orchestra?

Answer: Fantasia

This 1940 film was the first to be done in Stereo and theaters had to upgrade to play the Sound Track. It was a bold idea that used Disney animation set to classical music by the Philadelphia Orchestra. This movie consists of seven different animated short skits set to music, including "The Sorcerer's Apprentice", in which Mickey Mouse attempts magic tricks he has trouble controlling. And who can forget the ballet "Dance of the Hours", performed by hippos, ostriches, elephants and alligators?
