Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. 1962's Academy Award-winning "The Longest Day" is based on what World War II battle?

Answer: D-Day

Based on the book of the same name by Cornelius Ryan, which narrates the first day in the Invasion of Normandy. The cast included a large amount of well-known actors practically doing cameos.

Another epic war movie, 1977's "A Bridge Too Far" was also based on one of his books.
2. In which European country was Steven Spielberg's "Schindler's List" primarily shot?

Answer: Poland

Based on the novel "Schindler's Ark" by the Australian writer Thomas Keneally, the film tells the story of a German businessman by the name of Oskar Schindler that attempts to save as many Jewish prisoners from their certain deaths as he can, during the Holocaust.

Principal photography took place mostly on Kraków for a period of two months and a half. A town just 45 minutes away named Olkusz, was selected for some factory scenes.

For the concentration camp scenes, a replica had to be set up due to historic site regulations and the proximity of modern residential buildings.
3. What 1980 movie won the Saturn Award for Best Science-Fiction Film?

Answer: Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back

"Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back" was the second film to be released in the "Star Wars" space opera. Largely considered the best of the first six episodes, it showcased the heroes in situations of great peril, with the villains coming back stronger from their rampant losses in the previous movie.

"Star Wars: Episode V" also won for Best Actor, Best Director, and Best Special Effects. However, Best Costume went to "Somewhere in Time", a romantic, fantasy drama. "Superman" won the Special Achievement Award in 1979, while on that same year "Invasion of the Body Snatchers" got the Best Director and Best Sound Awards. "Flash Gordon" was nominated for a couple of things in 1980 but did not win anything.
4. The opening scene of 1991's "City Slickers" was actually shot on location rather than filmed inside a local studio. Billy Crystal said on a 2011 interview, that any studio today would rather make the whole scene digitally rather than live. In which country was it shot?

Answer: Spain

"City Slickers", a film about a trio of friends that try to get out of their mid-life crisis funk by signing up for a cattle-herding vacation experience, was shot mostly in the U.S. except for the running of the bulls early in the film, which takes place in Pamplona, Spain.
5. Which entry in the "Scary Movie" series was the first one to not include the character of Cindy Campbell, played by Anna Faris?

Answer: Scary Movie 5

"Scary Movie 5" came out in 2013 and quickly became the most disliked entry in the franchise, famous for poking fun at popular movies, especially horror and sci-fi blockbusters. The fifth entry made fun of movies such as "Mama" and "Black Swan", with Charlie Sheen and Lindsay Lohan playing themselves getting possessed by a ghost with fatal results, leading to Charlie Sheen's brother (played by Simon Rex) rescuing his missing kids who may now be possessed as well. Unfortunately for Anna Faris, she had her own stinker in the same year, with the universally-panned "Movie 43".
6. The Hong Kong movie "Infernal Affairs" was remade into what popular movie?

Answer: The Departed

"The Departed" is a film about a Boston Irish mob boss, an undercover police agent attempting to gain his trust, and the mole he placed in the police force to guarantee the safety of his illegal empire.

"Goodfellas" is based on Nichola Pileggi's non-fiction book "Wise Guy". Quentin Tarantino wrote the script for "Reservoir Dogs" himself, basing it on Stanley Kubrick's "The Killing", which in turn is adapted from "Clean Break", a novel by Lionel White. "Road to Perdition" is based on a graphic novel of the same name by Max Allan Collins. "Infernal Affairs" has two more sequels and they all came out in theatres before "The Departed" was filmed.
7. Amanda Peet and Rosanna Arquette worked together in the animated movie "Terra". What's the only other movie they've worked together before 2009?

Answer: The Whole Nine Yards

"The Whole Nine Yards" is a black humor crime comedy, in which a normal, unhappily married dentist realizes that his newly-acquired neighbor is really an infamous hitman staying under the radar, and has a sizable bounty on his head in the criminal underworld.

Amanda Peet is Jill St. Claire, a receptionist that aspires to be a "hit-woman." Rosanna Arquette is Sophie Ozeransky, the main character's wife.
8. In "Kindergarten Cop", a 1990 action comedy about a cop passing as a kindergarten teacher in order to find a wanted criminal, what's the name of the police detective Arnold Schwarzenegger portrays?

Answer: John Kimble

Kaminsky is his character in "Raw Deal"; Matrix is in "Commando"; and Kruger is in "Eraser". Kimble, by the way, is the Finnish version of the "Trouble" board game.
9. James Stewart plays the lead gunslinger in the 1955 western "The Man from Laramie", soon finding trouble in the fictitious town of Coronado, NM after delivering supplies from Laramie. In which U.S. state is the real city of Laramie located?

Answer: Wyoming

Coronado means "crowned" in Spanish. Today, there's a resort city of the same name near San Diego and a small town in the Chihuahua state of Mexico.

However, in Wichita County, there was a Coronado town that was involved in a very bloody county seat war with the rival town of Leoti in 1887.
10. In what movie does Anthony Hopkins play the role of a lieutenant in the British Royal Navy?

Answer: The Bounty

In "The Bounty" he plays Lieutenant William Bligh of the British Royal Navy, a strict man in charge of a merchant vessel that finds himself facing a mutiny from his crew. William Bligh eventually rose to the rank of Vice Admiral.

In "Titus", Hopkins plays Titus Andronicus, a Roman general. In "Alexander" he plays Ptolemy, a Macedonian general. In "All the King's Men", he plays a judge in 1930's American South.
