2. Who plays a character named Fitzgerald in this movie?

Answer: Tom Hardy

John Fitzgerald joins Hugh Glass on his hunting expedition during which things go horribly wrong for Hugh. Fitzgerald is on the run and has faltered on paying his debts. Tom Hardy does a very good job playing this gun yielding criminal. Tom Hardy got an Oscar nomination for this role.

The movie also stars Domhnall Gleeson as Andrew Henry and Will Poulter as Jim Bridger.

In the beginning of the movie, the group to which Fitzgerald and Hugh belong are taking a break from their expedition, when their camp is attacked by Native Americans. Some of the men, including Andrew, Hugh and Fitzgerald get onto a boat and sail away from the attack. They reach solid ground and Fitzgerald harasses Hugh over his half Native American son named Hawk. Andrew orders Fitzgerald to stop it. Hugh tells Hawk to shut up if he wants to survive.

Tom Hardy has appeared in movies such as 'Mad Max: Fury Road' and 'Warrior'. He appeared alongside DiCaprio in Christopher Nolan's 'Inception' and alongside Christian Bale in 'The Dark Knight Rises'.
3. What animal attacks Hugh when he is in the forest alone?

Answer: Bear

Hugh ventures into the forest alone when Hawk is sleeping and the rest of the troop is resting. He walks through the beautiful, green forest looking for something to eat. He gets startled by some sounds of animals around him and becomes alert. He raises his gun and sees a few bear cubs coming out of the green.

He turns around and sees the parent bear. It charges at him and takes him down before he can shoot it. The bear throws him around, biting him many, many times. He tries to fight the bear but it wounds him badly and goes back to its cubs. Hugh somehow manages to get to his gun and shoots but the bear attacks him again for a while and then lets him go. Hugh somehow again manages to reach his knife.

He finally kills the bear. Both the bear and he fall into a ditch with the bear falling on top of him.
4. The troop tries to carry a wounded Hugh on a stretcher up a snow covered, steep hill but give up halfway. Which of the following characters does not stay back with Hugh?

Answer: Andrew

The troop finds Hugh with the bear on top of him. He is still alive but severely wounded. They stitch up his wounds and carry him on a stretcher with them on the journey. They find it difficult to make their way across streams and rocks and finally give up when they try to take on a hill.

A few of them suggest the idea to put Hugh out of misery and Andrew tries to shoot him but fails to do so. Andrew then offers extra money to anyone who stays back and sees that Hugh dies honorably. Hawk, Bridger and Fitzgerald agree to stay back and make sure he is buried properly while Andrew and the others move on with their journey.
5. How does Hawk die?

Answer: He is killed by Fitzgerald.

Fitzgerald gets tired of waiting for Hugh to die, so he tries to take matters into his own hands and smothers Hugh. Hawk sees this happening and steps in and pushes Fitzgerald aside. Hawk screams for help but Bridger is at a stream filling a canteen with water while all this is happening. Fitzgerald then stabs Hawk and kills him. Hugh struggles and screams in agony but watches his son die. Bridger comes back asking where Hawk is and Fitzgerald tells him that he has no idea. Fitzgerald then tries to bury Hugh alive but Bridger stops him.

He leaves and Bridger soon follows him, leaving Hugh in a pit, wounded and helpless. Hugh somehow crawls out of the pit and crawls to his son's body. Intense scene!
6. How does Hugh attempt to treat a wound on his neck?

Answer: By applying gun powder to it and igniting it

Hugh survives and somehow crawls to a place beside a stream of water. He fills his water bottle and tries to drink it but is not able to because of wound in his throat region. He then takes some dry grass and lights a spark for it to catch fire. He then applies gunpowder to his neck region and takes a fire to it. Hugh passes out in pain. Later he finds himself in the path of some Native Americans who will kill him if they see him.

They do see him after he tries to hide next to the rocks and they try to kill him.

He swims into the middle of the stream and gets swept away by the current, away from all the weapons and enemies. He is carried away by the current down a small waterfall. He grabs on to a log and floats to solid ground.
7. Hugh eats from a huge, wild animal's raw carcass after eating a fish. The animal was killed by a disease.

Answer: False

After Hugh finds solid ground he catches a fish and eats it. He walks towards some animal noises that he hears and sees a bison like animal getting killed by a bunch of predators. He dozes off in hiding as he waits for the predators to be done. He wakes up and sees a man, a Native American, chasing away the predators and then sitting down to eat the animal. Hugh approaches him and signals that he means no harm and just wants to eat.

The man throws him a piece of meat to munch on. Hugh tells the man that he was wounded by a bear and that his men killed his son.

The man then takes Hugh with him on his journey with his horse.
8. How does Hugh get a horse?

Answer: He steals it from a group's camp.

The Native American who takes him along helps Hugh recover. He puts some healing mixture on his wounds and lets him rest. When a storm comes he builds a fire and a shelter for Hugh to keep warm and stay safe enough to recover. Hugh wakes up after the storm passes and is able to walk a little.

He reaches a human camp and sees a few horses there. With the help of a Native American woman held captive by the men in the camp, he steals a horse and escapes on it. A gun fight ensues but John evades it. Hugh is then spotted by a few Native Americans in the woods and he rides away on his horse. Both he and the horse fall off a cliff into a tree below.

The horse does not survive the fall but Hugh does. The weather is also not kind to Hugh, so to keep himself warm, Hugh disembowels the horse and sleeps inside its body.
9. What does a man bring back to Andrew and Bridger that makes them think that Hawk or Hugh may be alive?

Answer: A water bottle

A man brings back a water bottle that Hugh dropped while escaping with the horse to the camp where Andrew, Fitzgerald and Bridger are. Bridger recognizes the bottle because he left the bottle with Hugh. Andrew orders for someone to go out and look for the man who dropped the bottle and bring him back if he is alive.

They find Hugh and bring him back to the camp. Andrew goes looking for Fitzgerald only to find that he has escaped. He questions Bridger on why he told them that Hugh was dead. Hugh tells Andrew that Fitzgerald killed Hawk and he may have run off because he was afraid of what Hugh might do to him. Hugh tells Andrew that he will come with him when he goes to look for Fitzgerald and they do.
10. How does John Fitzgerald finally die?

Answer: He is killed by some Native Americans.

Andrew and Hugh go looking for Fitzgerald. They follow his tracks and make their way toward him. At one point they split up and Andrew finds Fitzgerald but he kills Andrew before he can draw his gun. Hugh hears the gunshots and comes to find Andrew dead and finds that Fitzgerald has escaped.

He saddles Andrew's body to one horse and rides on the other. Hugh moves forward in search of Fitzgerald and he tricks him into shooting Andrew's dead body. When he comes close to check, Hugh confronts him and a fight ensues. Fitzgerald manages to escape into the woods but Hugh finds him.

The two fight for a while with all kinds of weapons and finally Hugh manages to stab Fitzgerald a couple of times which incapacitates him. Hugh sees some Native Americans on the other side of the stream and he lets the wounded Fitzgerald float to them.

The Native Americans then kill him and set his body into the stream again.
