Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. This actor did such a good job playing the Devil, that I wanted Keanu Reeves to turn over to the darkside! Who played this bad guy?

Answer: Al Pacino

Al Pacino played the Devil in "The Devil's Advocate". Keanu Reeves finds out that he is the son of the Devil in this less than great movie. Al Pacino makes it watchable.
2. My favorite James Bond villain was Max Zorin, played by Christopher Walken. Which Bond movie am I talking about?

Answer: A View to a Kill

Grace Jones was Walken's sidekick in "A View to a Kill". Her name was May Day. The Bond girl in this movie is Tanya Roberts who later played Donna's mom, Midge, on "That '70s Show".
3. I love all of these bad guys, but perhaps the classiest of them all is played by Alan Rickman in the first "Die Hard" movie. What is the name of this exeptional thief?

Answer: Hans Gruber

Rickman plays Hans Gruber in "Die Hard" so well that you can't help but respect him. He has perfect grammar and he is well dressed. Jeremy Irons plays his brother, Simon Gruber in the third "Die Hard" movie.
4. This bad guy was so good that he won an Academy Award for his badness. Who won the best actor Oscar for portraying Mozart's nemesis in "Amadeus"?

Answer: F. Murray Abraham

F. Murray Abraham played Antonio Salieri. Tom Hulce played Mozart. "Amadeus", based on the play by Peter Schaffer also won best picture in 1984.
5. No choices here! This fantastic actor played the 'Verbal' Kint / Keyser Soze in "The Usual Suspects", as well as the serial killer from "Se7en". What is his name?

Answer: Kevin Spacey

'Verbal' Kint's first name is Roger - he has this nickname because he is very quiet. Spacey won an Oscar for his performance in "The Usual Suspects".
6. This character actor was terrific as the evil Cardinal Richlieu in the 1993 version of "The Three Musketeers". Who was the actor that stole the show away from Kiefer Sutherland and Charlie Sheen?

Answer: Tim Curry

Probably best known for his Frank N. Furter role in "The Rocky Horror Picture Show", Curry is actually a very versatile actor with great comic timing.
7. If you haven't seen this movie, then I apologize. Who played the killer in "From Hell"?

Answer: Ian Holm

The movie trailers looked bad, but I saw this movie recently on cable and was very impressed. "From Hell" explores several different possible theories on the 'Jack The Ripper' mystery. Johnny Depp and Ian Holm were both wonderful in this film and it included some beautiful cinematography.
8. Who played Dr. Hannibal 'The Cannibal' Lecter in both "The Silence of the Lambs" and "Hannibal"?

Answer: Anthony Hopkins

Anthony Hopkins won an Academy Award for Best Actor for "The Silence of the Lambs" in 1991. Jodie Foster won best actress the same year for her portrayal of Clarice Starling in the same film. Hopkins was knighted for his acting skills in 1993. (Thanks Miaow).
9. Who was nominated for Best Actor for his creepy role in "Cape Fear" in 1991, but lost out to the actor who played Hannibal Lecter?

Answer: Robert De Niro

De Niro can say more with his eyes than most actors can say in a soliloquy. He did lose the Oscar to Anthony Hopkins in 1991, but he won Academy Awards in 1974 (for "The Godfather Part II") and one in 1980 (for "Raging Bull").
10. Which veteran actor played a pyromaniac in the movie "Backdraft" helping the fireman solve the crime in a Hannibal Lecter style?

Answer: Donald Sutherland

Sutherland gave by far the best performance in this film as Ronald Bartel, the convicted arsonist. Sutherland has been in many films, most memorably "Klute" and "Ordinary People". He also played a professor in "Animal House".
11. Everybody remembers Jack Nicholson delivering the famous lines "You can't handle the truth!" in "A Few Good Men", and "Here's Johnny!" in "The Shining", but which bad guy did Jack Nicholson play in 1989's "Batman"?

Answer: The Joker

Is it wrong that I actually wanted him to kill Vicki Vale? Nicholson has secured his place in movie history with many memorable characters and numerous awards.
12. In the 1980 movie version of "Flash Gordon", who played Ming the Merciless?

Answer: Max Von Sydow

Von Sydow was also the villian in the hilarious and underrated "Strange Brew". His sharp features lend themselves well to bad guy roles.
13. Okay, so she's not a bad 'guy', but this actress scared the hell out of unfaithful men everywhere playing Alex Forrest in "Fatal Attraction". Name the actress.

Answer: Glenn Close

Glenn Close also played the evil Cruella DeVil in Disney's "101 Dalmatians" and "102 Dalmatians".
14. In "Pulp Fiction" this guy's wallet told you exactly what kind of guy he was. Samuel L. Jackson was the actor, but what was the character's name?

Answer: Jules Winnfield

John Travolta played Vincent Vega, Ving Rhames was Marsellus Wallace and Butch Coolidge was played by Bruce Willis. I cannot type here what was branded onto Jules' wallet (as this is a family site) but I think those of you who have have seen "Pulp Fiction" will know.
15. Which prolific actor made you almost grow to like Lex Luthor in "Superman"?

Answer: Gene Hackman

Gene Hackman has been in over 70 feature films playing almost any role you can imagine, but out of all his bad guy roles, I think Lex Luthor will always be my favorite.
16. This cutie, with a famous father, played a vampire in "The Lost Boys" and a racist killer Klansman in "A Time To Kill". Who am I talking about?

Answer: Kiefer Sutherland

Sutherland was also one of the mean older kids in "Stand By Me". He also made a huge splash starring in the citically acclaimed television series "24".
17. James Earl Jones was the voice behind the helmet for one of the most famous movie bad guys ever! Who is Luke's father?

Answer: Darth Vader

Darth Vader, especially in "Star Wars: A New Hope" is the perfect bad guy. Now that we've seen the other movies, we know that Anakin Skywalker had a fall from grace, and eventually redeemed himself. James Earl Jones was 'the voice' but he was physically played by David Prowse, Sebastian Shaw was Anakin in "Return of the Jedi", Jake Lloyd portrayed him in "The Phantom Menace" and Hayden Christensen in Episodes 2 and 3, so far.
18. I'm still afraid to go into public restrooms after Harry Connick Jr.'s performance in "Copycat". Which other musician also scared the daylights out of me playing a drug dealer in "Rush"?

Answer: Gregg Allman

There is another scene in this movie that scared me - Jason Patric's character burns himself with an iron, while trying to kick a heroin addiction. Very harrowing.
19. I usually side with Clint Eastwood, but the guy that played Mitch Leary in "In the Line of Fire" did such a good job. Who was this bad guy?

Answer: John Malkovich

Malkovich sure can be creepy when he wants to be! He was nominated for a Best Supporting Actor Oscar for this role in 1993, but lost to Tommy Lee Jones in his brilliant performance in "The Fugitive".
20. Not that I have anything against Keanu Reeves personally, but if I were Winona Ryder I would have gone with The Count and never looked back. Who played Dracula in "Bram Stoker's Dracula"?

Answer: Gary Oldman

Oldham was also a great villian in "The Professional" and "The Fifth Element", a killer pimp in "True Romance" and he played Lee Harvey Oswald in "JFK". He also has played Sid Vicious and Beethoven. Oldman is so versatile that I saw him in three different roles without realizing it was the same actor.
