quiz
Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In the pre-title sequence James Bond battles Colonel Moon on a hovercraft. After the battle James escapes the out of control hovercraft by leaping on to a rope attached to a _______?

Answer: A bell, like the kind that goes ding dong

After James battles Colonel Moon on the hovercraft, he escapes by leaping on to a rope attached to a large metal pole thing that hits the large bell and emits a very loud sound. This might explain why he is then captured by a large number of the North Korean Army. One would imagine that "bing-bong" would be a dead give away as to his whereabouts.
2. Many of us think giving James Bond a Mazda 121 instead of a very expensive car he is bound to blow up would be a good money saving idea. Luckily for him "Q" branch keeps giving him cars to die for. What is the brand of the particular "car to die for" that he beats the stuffing out of in this movie?

Answer: Aston Martin

"Ah yes, 007 - Aston Martin call it the Vanquish, we call it the Vanish". Designed by the new Q for the secret agent who has everything (And just what is he going to do with six beverage cup holders anyway? The car only seats four. How many martinis can one man drink? And is it really a wise move to give a guy with a penchant for martinis a very expensive car with six beverage cup holders anyway? That could be asking for trouble) This little beauty comes in handy for infiltrating the headquarters of evil guys bent on world domination as it can become invisible.
3. Boys with toys: James Bond has tendency to blow up just about every moving vehicle he gets in to, so does his arch enemy in this movie. During the pre-title sequence Colonel Moon blows up a moving vehicle with a tank buster. What does he blow up?

Answer: Helicopter

James Bond knows that his cover is blown when Colonel Moon blows up the helicopter. Colonel Moon then tries to kill James. Luckily James sets off his watch-plastic-explosive-detonator and escapes. (Otherwise it would have been a short film).
4. For those interested in the love scenes: I thought this was a hard - were you paying attention type - question, but nearly everyone who saw the film and played has noticed. In Gustav Graves' ice palace, James finally breaks through Miranda Frost's frosty exterior, and James gets to do what he does best. Bad puns aside, what was the ice bed in the shape of?

Answer: Swan

How one does it on a bed of ice, I do not know. However, James Bond has no such inhibitions. Sex in the evening, and death for breakfast: Ahh, James... Nothing stops this man.
5. James Bond owes his loyalty and obedience to one woman: His very short boss, "M". However when he is released from the North Korean jail, she is not pleased to see him. What does she do to him?

Answer: Revoke his licence to kill

After 14 months of being beaten, kicked, drowned and generally nearly tortured to death, James is not impressed when M revokes his licence to kill. Fortunately, James is back killing with impunity very soon.
6. What is the name of Gustav Graves' satellite?

Answer: Icarus

Graves creates the Icarus satellite to burn a path through the Korean DMZ so that the North Korean army can invade South Korea. He also uses it to try to kill James Bond - hence initiating one of the worst computer generated sequences in the history of motion pictures. Icarus is, of course, the famous Greek mythology dude who flew too near the sun, melted the wax holding his wings on, (it was ancient Greece and no one has invented the rivet yet) and then drowned - hence we knew Gustav was in for a fall.
7. Bond's green Jag driving enemy Zao has very expensive acne. What is it?

Answer: Diamonds

"Don't blow it all at once". Zao is permanently scarred when James Bond blows up about half a kilo of South African conflict diamonds in his face. You would be a real Pierce Brosnan fan if you knew what Royal Lavulite was. This ficticious stone was created for the series "Remington Steele". Royal Lavulite was a beautiful stone "so blue it is said they were once pieces of the sky".
8. When Gustav Graves parachutes into London to receive his knighthood who sang the song that accompanies this scene?

Answer: The Clash

"London Calling" is the song which accompanies Gustav Graves when he parachutes in to London to accept his knighthood. A Union Jack parachute - oh really... Haven't they already done that somewhere in a Bond movie before?
9. Somewhat shirty after 14 months in a North Korean jail James takes it out on Gustav Graves during a sword fight at a swanky fencing club in London. The winner was the one who drew first blood from the _____?

Answer: Torso

It started out with fencing swords and ended up with broad swords. Fortunately no one got his head lopped off. Madonna makes her famous appearance as the unimpressed lesbian fencing instructor. We were impressed.
10. James Bond and Jinx destroy the clinic in Cuba.

Answer: True

Did anyone answer no to this? If you did you really need to see more Bond movies. Over the last 40 years James Bond has blown up more cars, tanks, planes, satellite dishes, space stations, trains, large chunks of central London, trucks and nuclear weapons launching facilities than just about any other fictional character. What's one more clinic? Actually, in this case, James didn't really intend to blow up the clinic, however he accidentally set fire to it and things just progressed from there. Jinx also helped by blowing bits of it up with her mobile phone. So no it wasn't a trick question - they both did it: Did they both 'destroy' the clinic - yes they did. So please don't send me any messages. You must remember that in a James Bond film these things have a tendency to happen.
11. When trying to infiltrate the Cuban clinic James Bond enlists the unwitting help of a South African man. How does James "encourage" the South African to assist him?

Answer: Punches him senseless

James infiltrates the clinic by going to his room, punching the guy out, stuffing him in a wheelchair and pretending to be his nurse. Then, after one final push, James abandons him. The South African (you can tell he is South African by his South African accent) guy was the guy with the gun from the "Jinx emerging from the water" scene. I'll forgive you if you were distracted and didn't remember this one: Most people were distracted when Halle Berry emerged from the water in that bikini.
12. "Pay attention 007": During the obligatory "Q" (shows Bond all the neat stuff he has created which, that by an amazing coincidence, Bond is going to need during the course of the movie while James plays around with the equipment until "Q" gets shirty and tells him to "grow up") scene in the MI6 abandoned railway station there are some relics that come from past Bond films (a shoe, a briefcase and a jet pack). The two films were?

Answer: "Thunderball" and "From Russia With Love"

The jet pack came from "Thunderball". The briefcase with the gold soverigns in it and Rosa Kleb's knife/shoe came from "From Russia With Love". The homage to "Dr. No" was in the form of Halle Berry rising from the water in the Ursula Andress bikini complete with knife. I guess "Q" in the same bikini just wouldn't have the same umpahchah!
13. One of Gustav Graves' henchmen is a big beefy Maori guy who gained fame in "Once Were Warrriors". When he first meets Bond he introduces himself as "Mr Kil". James does not seem terribly impressed. How does he respond?

Answer: That's a name to die for.

Poor old Mr. Kil and his trully atrocious acting meet a very nasty end when Jinx shoots a laser beam through his head. However this does save James just in the nick of time (and Pierce Brosnan pretending to be strangled isn't a pretty sight), so we will forgive her.
14. This a very tricky question: Don't jus't jump to conclusions, get annoyed when you get it wrong and send me messages. Think hard boys and girls. From Madonna's dislike of male ego displays in the fencing scene to Miranda Frost's "big bang" theory, just about every character in the movie tries to outdo each other in the double entendre/innuendo department. At one point Jinx tells James that it "looks like they are going down together". What is she referring to? And no, its not what you are thinking.

Answer: Plunging to their deaths in a plane

Jinx says this line during the final plane scene - after all the bad guys have either plunged to their deaths or have been dispatched in other suitably gruesome ways. I repeat Jinx says this line in the plane - it was even in the trailer. She does not say it in a helicopter, she does not say it in a train. She says the line in a PLANE. You know - Its a big thing with wings that flies through the air.

James and Jinx are alone on the out-of-control-on-fire plane that is about to blow up (And before you say anything James is innocent. It was Jinx who blew it up by flying it into the path of Icarus). Fortunately our heroes escape the plane and James gets to reuse the quote in, er... different circumstances on the helicopter(now you are probably on the mark). Probably the best ever innuendo in a Bond film must be "Q"'s remark at the end of "Moonraker" that Bond "looks like he's attempting reentry".'
15. Ian Fleming's books were pretty rough and generally involved quite a bit of thumping, hurting, punching and breaking of bones. Now think really carefully and remember the flashbacks. What do the North Koreans do to James in the opening sequence?

Answer: Burning, drowning, beating, stinging, hosing and general nastiness

Ouch. The opening title was pretty brutal. They stuck his head in a bathtub, hung him from the roof, and burnt him with a red hot poker, beat him till he couldn't stand, stung him with scorpions, hosed him with a high pressure hose, and generally gave him a hard time. He probably would have preferred a nice cup of tea.
