Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What 1999 movie had the fitting tagline "Heads Will Roll"?

Answer: Sleepy Hollow

In "Sleepy Hollow", Tim Burton's interpretation of Washington Irving's short story "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow", the villain was the Headless Horseman (Christopher Walken). As his name suggests, he's been decapitated--and he'd like to share the experience with others (thus the 'Heads Will Roll' tagline).

It's not just heads that rolled in "Sleepy Hollow"--there were impalements, bisections and all manner of mayhem in this historical horror extravaganza. Johnny Depp starred as Ichabod Crane, a policeman trying to solve the hideous murders committed by the Horseman. Christina Ricci co-starred. The movie was well-received by the critics, though some thought it was too bloody. Well, maybe they should have read the tagline...
2. In 1995, a movie poster asked "Why can't the most powerful man in the world have the one thing he wants most?" What was the movie?

Answer: The American President

The 'most powerful man in the world' referred to the President of the United States (Michael Douglas), and what he wanted most was lobbyist Sydney Ellen Wade (Annette Bening), who was trying to get his support on a climate change initiative. The movie presented Douglas with several dilemmas, including the struggle between doing what you wanted and doing what was politically necessary--and in the movie his public didn't like the President's relationship with a lobbyist, nor her anti-pollution bill. What was a poor president to do?
3. Which 2004 film used the tagline "From the Dark Side to Our Side"?

Answer: Hellboy

In "Hellboy", the title character was a demon, complete with horns, tail and red skin, who got pulled into our world accidentally when the Nazis attempted a horrific summoning in the final days of WWII. He was raised as an American (in his attempts to fit in, he filed down his horns) and trained to defend humanity from the constant threats from the supernatural world--thus, from the Dark Side (Hell) to Our Side. Ron Perlman had a great time as the demon-gone-good.
4. What 1994 movie's tagline told us to "Get Ready for Rush Hour"?

Answer: Speed

Rush hour indeed--a master criminal (Dennis Hopper) placed a bomb on a city bus (in Los Angeles, during morning rush hour, just to make things more complicated) that would explode if the vehicle dropped below 50 MPH. This Jan de Bont film, starring Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock, was a surprise hit and catapulted Ms. Bullock to stardom (she'd previously appeared in such movies as "Love Potion No. 9" and "Fire on the Amazon").
5. "They're Not There to Shop. They're Not There to Work. They're Just There". Which 1995 movie used this apt tagline?

Answer: Mallrats

"Mallrats" was director Kevin Smith's second movie, and was his most critically reviled (until "Jersey Girl", anyway). The film starred Jeremy London and Jason Lee (in his first acting performance--he'd later achieve fame as Earl on television's "My Name is Earl") as a couple of slackers trying to get their girlfriends back while hanging around the local mall (and not shopping or working). Ben Affleck also appeared in this movie (and most of Smith's films), and Stan Lee made a cameo.
6. Which 1988 movie advertised itself with "40 Stories of Sheer Adventure"?

Answer: Die Hard

The Nakatomi Plaza building (played by Los Angeles' Fox Tower) was the forty stories that New York detective John McClane (Bruce Willis) had to scurry through, over, under and around while avoiding a high-tech gang of thieves (pretending to be terrorists) led by Alan Rickman's Hans Gruber.

The film was named "Best action film of all time" by "Entertainment Weekly" in 2007, and has spawned several sequels.
7. "An Epic of Miniature Proportions" was the tagline for this 1998 film. What was it?

Answer: A Bug's Life

"A Bug's Life" or "a bug's life" (the movie's title on the posters had no capital letters) was the story of a colony of ants trying to resist the depredations of a bunch of extortionist grasshoppers, led by the sinister Hopper (voiced by Kevin Spacey).

Hero Flik (Dave Foley) hired a group of circus performer insects, thinking that they were mercenary warriors (shades of "The Seven Samurai"), and wackiness (and love) ensued. As epics go, "A Bug's Life" was a lot of fun in spite of the 'miniature proportions' of its heroes.
8. Which 1977 film's tagline read, simply, "Catch It"?

Answer: Saturday Night Fever

"Saturday Night Fever" was the dance spectacular featuring Tony Manero (John Travolta), a young man with a dead-end life, who came alive in the discotheques of late-seventies Brooklyn. The film helped (or was to blame for) bring disco music to prominence around the world, and the soundtrack by the Bee Gees sold over 15 million copies and was the bestselling movie soundtrack ever until "The Bodyguard" knocked it from its spot in 1992. "Catch It" referred, of course, to Night Fever.
9. "Are You In or Out?" asked the tagline for what 2001 movie?

Answer: Ocean's Eleven

"Ocean's Eleven", a remake of the 1960 Frank Sinatra caper film, was about Danny Ocean (played by George Clooney, and using the question in the tagline) recruiting various criminals into a plan to rob three casinos of $150 million in one night. Well, of course they were all in. The movie, directed by Steven Soderbergh, was very successful, earning $450 million upon its release.
10. Finally, what 1993 movie urged you to "See It With a Bud"?

Answer: Dazed and Confused

"Dazed and Confused", the story of teenagers on the last day of the school year in 1976, quickly became a cult classic. It starred Matthew McConaughey, Milla Jovovich, Ben Affleck and many more actors who would go on to achieve greater fame. The film was an affectionate look at Foghat, keg parties and goodnight kisses.

As for the 'bud' the tagline refers to, it may mean a good friend--or, more likely, it may mean a bud of marijuana.
