Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Who directed Milo & Otis?

Answer: Masanori Hata

"The Adventures of Milo and Otis" was the only movie that Masanori Hata directed by himself. It was released in Japan in 1986 under the title "Koneko Monogatari." It made it's way to the United States where it was Westernized and released to American audiences in 1989 under the new English title. Hata was one of three directors for the 1992 movie "Little Nemo: Adventures in Slumberland."
2. In the beginning of the movie, what kinds of animals are shown before we see the family of cats?

Answer: dogs, ducks, rabbits, cows

The cows are hard to see because they are in the shadows. There are a lot of different animals in this movie including barn animals such as dogs, cats, chickens, sheep, ducks, and rabbits. There are also wild animals such as bears, deer, foxes, seagulls, racoons, and snakes.
3. What is the name of Milo's mother?

Answer: It is never said

Actually, not many of the animals have names. A chicken, three cats, and five dogs are the only ones I remember having names. The rest of the animals are just called by their generic names such bear, cat and chicken.
4. When Milo and Otis are playing hide and seek on the farm, Milo is having a hard time finding a place where Otis can't sniff him out. What is the second thing Milo tries to hide in?

Answer: a boot

The first place Milo hides is the small stove pipe down on the ground. He then hides in a boot, a milk can, a bag, and a sack of powder stuff. The last place he hides in is a chimney pipe up on the roof.
5. What is the name of the chicken that Milo and Otis babysit the egg for?

Answer: Gloria

While Milo and Otis are playing one day they hear something happening in the hen house and go to check it out. When they get there they see a young chicken telling the other chickens to leave. The chicken then lays her first egg and tells Otis to take care of it while she goes to spread the word. I love the scene where the other hens are asking if Gloria is staying home with it or going back to work.
6. What animal tries to eat Gloria's egg?

Answer: hedgehog

Milo has ventured outside to tell an annoying baby bird to shut up and Otis follows him. A frog is yelling at Otis to do something about his cat buddy because he is driving the whole farm crazy. While playing outside, Milo and Otis finally remember the egg and run inside the barn and find a hedgehog playing with it.

They yell at him to leave it alone and the hedgehog wanders away saying "Lighten up. Wasn't going to touch your cruddy egg, probably rotten anyway."
7. When Gloria's egg hatches, who does the chick think its mommy is?

Answer: Otis

The chick follows Otis around and won't stay with the other chickens. However, when Otis teaches the chick how to be a puppy, he doesn't like the look of it and runs back to his chicken family.
8. What does Otis save Milo from?

Answer: a bear

The bear sees Milo floating down the river, in the wooden box, and tries to eat him. Otis comes running out of the woods, starts to fight the bear, and begins to wonder what he thinks he's doing as the bear is too big. He then runs back into the woods and lures the bear away from Milo.
9. What happens to Otis when he's running through the woods singing "Here comes the dog..."?

Answer: He falls in a hole

Otis is running through the woods, going to the river to save Milo, and is singing a song to cheer himself up and make himself feel brave. However, he is so focused on saving Milo that he doesn't see a hole in the path ahead and falls in.
10. When Otis finds the wooden box that Milo was in in the Deadwood Swamp, a bird tells him to look in it. What does he see?

Answer: a feather

Otis reaches the Deadwood swamp and sees the box stuck in the mud. He asks a bird where the cat that was in the box is, and the bird tells him to look in the box. Otis prepares himself, looks in the box, and sees a solitary black feather. Milo has run away from the birds after the box gets stuck and is already a mile or two away, in a burning valley, when Otis finds the box.
