Although the film is in black and white, we know this because Monica, the neighbor and landlady of the apartment building who befriends Christine and her daughter, comments on it. She tells Rhoda how nice she looks in her "red and white dotted Swiss", but she thought children usually wore jeans and play suits to picnics.

Answer: Peanut butter sandwich

After Rhoda gets back from the picnic, Christine expects her to be rattled after the little boy's drowning, but she enters undisturbed and chipper. She asks Christine for a peanut butter sandwich and milk because Claude Daigle was drowned and they had to go home, so she didn't get any lunch.

Answer: A locket

Towards the beginning of the film, Monica comes to see Rhoda and Christine and we learn about the locket. Monica tells Rhoda that she plans to take it to the jeweler and have her birthstone taken out of it and Rhoda's put in. Rhoda boldly asks the older woman if she can have both gemstones. Christine seems to be slightly embarrassed by this and nicely scolds her daughter for it, but Monica is completely enchanted by the child and happily tells her that of course she may!

Answer: Elsie Dinsmore

Rhoda comes in and greets her mother and Ms. Fern. Christine inquires about the book she is holding. Rhoda holds out the book for both of them to see and the title is clearly visible. Rhoda also verbally tells them what book it is.

Answer: Hortense

Poor drunk Mrs. Daigle and her husband pay Christine a visit after their son Claude's drowning. Mrs. Daigle has some questions for Christine and Rhoda after she becomes aware that Rhoda was the last to see her son alive. When she hears Christine's name, she tells her that she always thought of Christine as a gentle name and that her name, Hortense, sounds fat. (This seems a little funny considering that Hortense herself is very thin.)

Answer: Excelsior

Leroy is the deranged janitor of the apartment building and a nemesis of Rhoda's. He is a lazy and hateful man. When Rhoda receives a tea set sent to her by her father, it is packed in excelsior. A little later, while she is playing with her tea set, Leroy approaches her and begins to taunt her.

She throws the excelsior at him and tells him that she knows he has made a bed of excelsior next to the incinerator that he lays on when he is supposed to be working.

Answer: Her shoes

Claude was found to have half-moon shaped bruises on the backs of his hands after he was pulled from the water. It was reported that this was caused from his body washing against the rocks, but it was actually from Rhoda beating him with her shoes when he tried to pull himself out of the water after she had pushed him in. We find this out because later on in the film she admits this to her mother.

This fact is actually foreshadowed earlier on in the film, when Monica notes that Rhoda's shoes have metal cleats on the heels and she can tap with them. Christine tells Monica that it was Rhoda's idea.(Hmmmm...) Later on, Leroy notices that Rhoda doesn't tap on the sidewalk anymore with her shoes. That is because Rhoda has disposed of them after she killed Claude.

Answer: Bessie Denker

Bessie Denker, a notorious serial killer, is the topic of conversation for Christine, Monica, Reginald Tasker, and Christine's father, the journalist Richard Bravo, over cocktails. Christine mentions to Monica that she has always had a feeling like she was adopted. Later, she manages to pull a random memory from when she was a small child that leads her to believe that she is really the child of Bessie Denker.

She confronts her father with this belief and he reluctantly confirms it. He found her as a baby while he was covering Bessie's story and kept her.

This horrifies Christine as she realizes that Rhoda has taken after her real grandmother and is a serial killer.

Answer: She thinks he stole her shoes.

At first, Leroy harasses Rhoda by telling her that he thinks she hit Claude Daigle with a stick and that the police will find the stick and sprinkle special powder on it to test for blood. Rhoda plays it off like Leroy is just full of it, until he tells her later he thinks she hit Claude with her shoes instead of a stick.

She tells him she put her shoes in the incinerator. Leroy tells her he has her shoes, just to mess with her. To him, it is all fun and games, until she demands that he give them back and the evilness in her really shows.

He gets scared and tells her he doesn't really have the shoes, but Rhoda doesn't want to take chances.

Answer: Apricot juice

When Christine gives Rhoda a lethal amount of sleeping pills towards the end of the movie, she takes them with juice. Rhoda comments that she likes apricot juice because "it doesn't even need ice."
