Her mother pulls up in the driveway and in fear of being caught smoking, she quickly hides the record under the couch cushion.

She is in numerous arguments with Jody and tries to work with his mother in getting him to become more of a man and take responsibility. Peanut is the mother of his daughter. Keisha and A.J. are not in the movie.

Throughout the movie you will notice numerous street vendors selling random items. There are people who sell bread and sweets, clothes and appliances. One man comes up to Jody and Sweet Pea and asks, "CDs?...DVDs?...Master P?...'Charlie's Angels'?" It is director John Singleton making his only appearance in the movie. John Singleton has directed other classics such as "Boyz 'N the Hood", "Poetic Justice", "Higher Learning" and "Four Brothers".

Omar Gooding, brother of Academy Award winner Cuba Gooding, Jr., plays Sweet Pea - Jody's best friend. He is with Jody consistently throughout the movie. He is pretty much in the same situation as Jody in that he needs to take responsibility for his life. Omar used to be on Nickelodeon's "Wild 'N Crazy Kids" and on the TV series "Smart Guy" when he was younger. Ving Rhames plays Melvin, Jody's mother's boyfriend. Snoop Dogg plays Rodney, Jody's enemy. DJ Pooh is not in the movie.

Ving Rhames plays Melvin. He is a past gang-banger with jail history, who has turned his life around and has his own business. He is now dating Jody's mother and lives with them as well The mentioned tattoo is best seen in a scene where Melvin stands naked in the kitchen making breakfast. HOOVER stands for his old block and the name of the Crips he used to bang with in Inglewood.

He tells Jody that story in a scene where Jody keeps him company while his mother gets ready for her date with Melvin.

She hits him several times in the back and arms, screams and yells, then punches him in the face before he finally loses it. He hits her so hard he knocks her on the ground and she starts to cry. When he realizes what he's done, he is immediately regretful, and proceeds to carry her to the room where he attempts to make it up to her against her wishes.

Alize is a premium blend of French vodka and cognac. As he buys the liquor, he says, "One Alize a day. You know how I get down. $15.15 exactly." The store owner then tries to give him a paper cup and Jody declines the cup rudely stating, "What do you think - I'm just gonna sit outside the store and sip out of a cup?"

This happens right after Jody buys some liquor. He leaves the store and he thinks the kids are trying to steal his bike. It is a setup just to take his Alize. Jody tries to take them all on but gets jumped instead. There are about five of them. He quickly rides to Sweet Pea's house and tells him what has happened.

They find the kids all drinking in a neighborhood park and Sweet Pea walks up pretending to be drunk and homeless. Quickly, Pea pulls a gun out and when the others try to run, Jody is waiting right there with another gun.

They proceed to line the kids up and one by one, knock them out. They decide not to hit the last one, though, because he has "heart." However, they don't let him get off with nothing. Sweet Pea whips him with his belt.
