"The Benchwarmers": Baseball Blunders Quiz

Richie's (David Spade) brother Howie (Nick Swardson) is afraid to come out of his room at the beginning of the movie. Whenever he does come out, he insists on carrying a plastic sword, and avoids the sun as much as possible. Swardson also co-wrote the screenplay with Allen Covert.

The former athlete (he played for the San Francisco 49ers, Philadelphia Eagles, Denver Broncos, and Oakland Raiders) plays the role of Karl, who is one of the grown bullies in the movie.

Mel (Jon Lovitz) is a self-proclaimed grown-up nerd, who not only owns these three cars, but almost every piece of "Star Wars" memorabilia imaginable, as well as a robot butler named Number Seven. He asks Gus (Rob Schneider), Richie, and Clark (Jon Heder) to play in a baseball tournament against the surrounding Little League teams who have excluded the nerdier kids, including Mel's son Nelson (Max Prado).

Answer: Clark

Both Richie and Clark admit that they have never even had a date, let alone kissed a girl (Clark claims that he has never even spoken to a girl). By the end of the movie, Richie is finally about to kiss Sarah (Erinn Bartlett), the woman with whom he has continually flirted, but then he sees Clark making out with a sexy blonde woman. He is shocked that Clark managed to be kissed first.

Answer: Marcus

It is eventually found out that Gus was a bully as a kid, and Marcus (Joey Gnoffo) was a kid who Gus tormented so much that he had to be institutionalized. Gus has felt guilty about this for years, and visits him. Marcus lives in his mom's basement, and has a cardboard castle that he hides from Gus in, once he sees him. Gus apologizes for how he treated him, and at the Benchwarmers' final game, Marcus tells the spectators that he forgives him.

Answer: Reggie Jackson

Jackson claims that he was a former nerd, and met Mel at tuba camp. He shows Gus, Richie, and Clark some of the ways that he practiced baseball; including doorbell ditching to build speed, hitting mailboxes with a bat while hanging out of a car for power hitting, and tossing around a scalding potato for reflexes. Clark doesn't understand the last one, and as a result, ends up burning his hand badly.

Answer: Craig Kilborn

Former "Late Show" host Kilborn portrays Jerry, a die-hard bully who truly takes pleasure in making others suffer. He tormented Richie and Clark as kids, but they finally get him back by the end of the movie, hanging him by his underwear from a fence, giving him an atomic wedgie. Meadows plays another coach named Wayne, who is not nearly as nasty as Jerry. Farley (Chris's youngest brother) plays the gay lover of Brad (Sean Salisbury), one of Richie and Clark's bullies. Munro plays the foreman of the construction crew that Mel hires to build the stadium he gives to the Benchwarmers.

Richie almost gets hit once, but he jumps behind a fence just in time. Clark also takes out a number of dashboards. We only see him hit one, but according to the baseball cards that Mel prints up, he has hit at least six. Gus finally solves Clark's problem by taping his hands to the bat.

Answer: Carlos

Carlos (Amaury Nolasco) is recruited by Wayne, who is desperate to beat the Benchwarmers in the semi-final round of the tournament. Carlos is from the Dominican Republic, and claims to be twelve, even though he has a beard and a daughter. He carries around a piece of paper that he claims is his birth certificate, but it just has his picture glued to it and has "I am 12" written in green crayon.

He is a spectacular hitter, pitcher, and fielder, but the Benchwarmers discover that he has a drinking problem, and give him beer and tequila. Carlos gets so drunk, he can't concentrate on the game.

In the last inning, Gus, Richie, and Clark all manage to get on base with the score tied, so Howie has to be go up to bat. He is terrified at first, but the crowd starts cheering for him, and he gains confidence. Carlos then beans Howie in the shoulder, and Howie acts like he has had his arm shot off. But, this allows the Benchwarmers to get into the final round of the tournament.

Answer: Liz

Throughout the movie, Liz (Molly Sims) is primarily interested in having a baby with Gus, and she's very annoyed with his preoccupation with baseball. She is the only person sympathetic to him when she finds out that his friends have shunned him because he used to be a bully.

At this point, Gus admits that the reason he is reluctant to have a baby is because he is worried that his kid will be constantly bullied because of karma paying Gus back for years of tormenting other kids. At the end of the movie, Liz tells Gus that she is pregnant and he is overjoyed.
