"The Hi-Line", Part 1 Trivia Quiz

After Vera learns that her real mother's name is Estelle Little, she sets out to try to find her. Vera asks her non-biological mother, Laura, over the phone, where Estelle had last lived. Laura hesitantly tells Vera that the last time that she had seen Estelle, she was in Towbridge.

Sam reads Vera the letter that Ray wrote to her, and Vera discovers a shocking truth about her parents. Sam opens the rest of the package's contents for Vera, and finds a vacuum-sealed bag with ashes in it. Sam says sadly, "I think it's him."

Sam takes a picture of Vera's behind, claiming that it is his company's policy. Sam is posing as a retail store employer to take a picture of Vera, probably for Vera's real father, Raymond Boone.

Vera leaves her home, by herself, after Sam reads her the letter from Ray. Sam sets off to find her, and eventually discovers her alone on a bench overlooking an icy river. She is very upset about finding that her parents are not her biological parents.

She has a tear in her eye as she says to Sam, "You don't have to worry about me, Mr. Polvino... I'm solid as a stupid old rock." Sam expresses his remorse for Vera. Moments later, Vera asks Sam to take her to find her real mother. Sam feels obliged to do so, and does.

Answer: He tells Clyde that the company that he works for sends a list out of all the girls that can work.

Clyde and the bartender at The Owl are suspicious (Clyde much more) of Sam's intentions with Vera. When asked about the way that he found out about Vera, Sam is taken off guard and makes something up quickly.

After Sam accidentally runs off of the road and his car gets stuck in heavy snow, he and Vera walk to the house that the store clerk told them was Singing Bird's. They wait a long while for someone to answer the door, and then ask the woman (Singing Bird) if she knows a lady by the name of Estelle Little. Singing Bird reluctantly tells them that she is Estelle Little. Sam is excited, and Vera nervously tells him to show her the letter from Ray.

However, when Singing Bird reads it, she pushes it back to Sam, and snaps, "I don't want this!" Then she hurries inside without saying anything else.

During the drive from Whitman to Towbridge, Vera asks Sam a lot of questions about himself. Vera had found a small item that Sam kept from a stranger's wedding that he had stopped at and went to, and wondered if Sam had a girlfriend. Sam tells her that he's single, but that he lives with someone - his sister.

When Sam's sister calls him at the Rainbow Motel, she tells Sam that Ray died. Sam is shocked to hear that, and tells her that he'll be home soon. She then informs him that they're sending him a package at the motel. Despite Sam's desire to go back home to Chicago, he realizes that he's going to have to stay in Montana, at least until the package arrives.

Driving across Montana to find a small town named Towbridge, Vera and Sam come to a fork in the road and don't know which way to go. Sam tries to flag down a driver to ask for directions, but the driver keeps going. Exhausted and frustrated, Sam tells Vera a story about how he and a buddy stole some cigarettes when he was 18 years old, and got arrested and locked up.

He goes on, saying that Ray came to bail him out. He told her that when they got home, Ray kicked him and told him that if he ever screwed up again, he'd kill him.
