Cooper won his second Best Actor Oscar for playing Will Kane. His first was for "Sergeant York" (1942). Cooper began acting in the silent era, but became a major star in the 1930s. His iconic roles include Longfellow Deeds in "Mister Deeds Goes to Town" (1936), Lou Gehrig in "The Pride of the Yankees" (1941) and Professor Bertram Potts in "Ball of Fire" (1941). While John Wayne often played western lawmen, he hated "High Noon" (1952), and would never have accepted the role as written. Wayne even teamed with Howard Hawks to make "Rio Bravo" (1959) as a response to "High Noon". Ironically, it was Wayne who accepted the Oscar on Cooper's behalf at the awards ceremony. The Fondas do have some connection to "High Noon". In 1966, a young Peter Fonda would play Will Kane, Junior in "High Noon: The Clock Strikes Noon Again". Peck was offered the role, but turned it down. He later described that as one of the biggest regrets of his career, even though Peck thought Cooper did a better job than he would have.

"Herbie Rides Again" introduces us to the villain Alonzo Hawk during the opening credits. He is seen gloating over the demolition of historic buildings whilst he is sat in his chauffeur driven car with Maxwell the chauffeur. While looking through old pictures of her mother, she ends up finding a photo of her aunt at her mother's wedding holding a large, white cat and she wonders how she is.

It takes some convincing, but Ainsley has his father pull the boat to the shore so that he can take a leak in the bushes, but while this happens the rain begins to pour. The father thinks he hears the alligator in the water and he tells Ainsley to stay back in the woods and not make a sound, but after a few moments of silence, he returns to the boat to investigate. Soon, however, he discovers that his father's body is on the shore, split in two. He grabs up the harpoon to defend himself, but the attacker lunges at him from the bushes and knocks him down before pulling him into the woods, tearing his arm off, digging into his back, and finally tearing him in two.
