6. Singer Dean Martin proved to be a strong presence alongside Wayne in two films. Which were they?

Answer: "Rio Bravo" and "The Sons of Katie Elder"

Dean Martin played Dude, the alcoholic friend of John Wayne's John T. Chance in "Rio Bravo", in which Sheriff Chance and his friends hold off a murderous gang who seek to break their leader out of Chance's jailhouse. "Rio Bravo" was later remade, with Robert Mitchum playing an excellent re-imagining of Dean Martin's character. "The Sons of Katie Elder" focused on four sons coming together to their mother's ranch for her funeral; Dean Martin and John Wayne were two of the brothers in this classic Western.
7. This son of an acting star appeared with Wayne in three films. His father had also appeared with the Duke before. What was his name?

Answer: Chris Mitchum

Chris Mitchum's three films with Wayne included "Rio Lobo" and "Big Jake". His father, Robert Mitchum, appeared with Wayne in "El Dorado", while his brother, James Mitchum, appeared briefly in the John Wayne film "In Harm's Way". Harry Carey, Jr. appeared in far more than three films with Wayne; Jarman was in only one, "Rio Grande", where he played Wayne's son.

Chris Mitchum also ran as the Republican candidate for U.S. Congress twice, where he narrowly lost by less than five percent of the votes. He has been involved in directing and producing films since his youth.
8. This western legend originally wanted to be a singer, and trained as one. His beautiful voice is featured in one of the many films he made with John Wayne. This film was directed by John Ford and was the seventh remake of a 1913 novelette of the same name. What was the actor's name, and the film in which he is heard to sing?

Answer: Harry Carey, Jr.; "Three Godfathers"

Harry Carey, Jr. wanted to avoid the movie business, the career of his father Harry Carey, by becoming a singer. He sang twice in "Three Godfathers", a hymn ("Beautiful River") and a lullaby ("Streets of Laredo"). He also sings briefly with Ben Johnson and Claude Johnson, Jr. in "Rio Grande" ("San Antone"). The classic story of "Three Godfathers" is based around the story of the Three Wise Men, when three gangsters find a dying woman and promise to protect her newborn baby--at any cost.

Incidentally, his father Harry Carey starred in two silent versions of "Three Godfathers" before he was born!

Arthur Hunnicutt revised Walter Brennan's character of "Rio Bravo" in the remake "El Dorado".
10. This popular stock actor of John Ford and a regular feature in many of John Wayne's films appeared in movies such as "She Wore a Yellow Ribbon" and "The Quiet Man". He was originally a boxer. Who was he?
