Hugh Michael Jackman was born in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia on 12 October 1968. He is an actor, singer, dancer, and has appeared movies, TV shows and in theatre musicals. He won a Tony Award for his role in "The Boy From Oz". He hosted the Tony Awards several times and was host of the Academy Awards in 2009.

Ashley Tyler Ciminella (Ashley Judd), was born in Granada Hills California on 19 April 1968. Her mother was country singer Naomi Judd and she is the half-sister of Wynona Judd. After appearing in several TV shows, she made her motion picture debut in "Kuffs" (1992) in a small role. Her first starring role was in "Ruby in Paradise" in 1993. She has appeared in over 40 motion pictures and TV shows, some of her films being "Double Jeopardy" (1999), "Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood" (2002), "Twisted" (2004), "Come Early Morning" (2006), "Helen" (2009), and "Tooth Fairy" (2010). She has won many awards and has been nominated a few times for a Golden Globe Award.

When attending high school, Jackman starred in a production of "My Fair Lady" and whilst in his final year at university he decided to take a drama course. He turned down a role in the Australian TV series "Neighbours" and enrolled in the West Australian Academy of Performing Arts, graduating in 1994. His first professional role came in the ABCTV series "Corelli", where he met his future wife, actress Deborra-Lee Furness. He then turned to a stage musical career, appearing in productions such as "Beauty and the Beast" and "Sunset Boulevard". In 1998 he played the role of Curly in a production of "Oklahoma!" in London's West End.

Anna Helene Paquin was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada on 24 July 1982, of a Canadian father and New Zealand mother. When she was four years old her family moved to New Zealand and in 1995 her parents divorced when she moved to Los Angeles with her mother. She had acted a little in New Zealand and so she auditioned for a role in "The Piano" (1993) directed by Jane Campion. Paquin won the role that culminated with her winning an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress. She was 11 years old at the time. She appeared in a couple of films and then won the role of Rogue in "X-Men". She went on to appear in the "X-Men" sequels as well as in other feature films and TV shows such as "True Blood" and "Susanna".

Two of Jackman's first Australian movies were "Erskineville Kings" and "Paperback Hero" both in 1999. His big break came when he replaced Dougray Scott in the role of Wolverine in "X-Men". He performed all his own stunts in the movie and had to put on a lot of muscle for the role. Wolverine in the comics, is only 5 feet 3 inches, and Jackman is 6 feet 2.5 inches, and some of his co-stars had to wear platform-soled shoes so he did not appear to be so tall.

"Swordfish" was directed by Dominic Sena and told the story of ex-con and computer hacker, Stanley Jobson (Jackman), who is recruited by Gabriel Shea (John Travolta), who offers Stanley $10 million to hack into a secret government fund and steal $9.5 billion. Halle Berry was paid $2 million for this movie plus an extra $500,000 to appear in her first topless role.

Jackman has worked several times since "Swordfish" with Halle Berry in the "X-Men" movies, with Berry reprising the role of Storm/Ororo Munroe. He hosted the Tony Awards in 2003, 2004 and 2005 and won an Emmy Award for Outstanding Individual Performer in a Variety, Musical or Comedy Program, for his hosting of the 2004 Tony Awards.

"Van Helsing" was written and directed by Stephen Sommers and co-starred Kate Beckinsale, Richard Roxburgh and David Wenham. It told the story of Gabriel Van Helsing being sent to Transylvania to kill Count Dracula. Kate Beckinsale was born in England in 26 July 1973. Both her parents were actors and they starred in several British TV comedies. Jackman lost to Daniel Craig for the role of 007 James Bond in the 2006 film "Casino Royal", However, in 2009 Jackman starred with Craig in the Broadway play "A Steady Rain" at the Schoenfeld Theatre, which ran for three months.

"The Prestige" was based on a novel of the same name written by Christopher Priest in 1995, for which he won a World Fantasy Award. The movie was nominated for several awards including two Academy Awards. David Bowie and Andy Serkis both appeared in this film. The movie told the story of two magicians, once friends, who turn into bitter rivals with the twist of one of them having an identical twin brother.

Jackman said that one of the main reasons he took the role in "The Prestige" was to work with David Bowie. He again starred with Scarlett Johansson in Woody Allen's "Scoop" in 2006, and in the same year voiced characters in "Happy Feet" and "Flushed Away".

"Deception" was directed by Marcel Langenegger and also starred Michelle Williams, Bruce Altman and Andrew Ginsbury. The movie told the story of an auditor (McGregor) and a lawyer (Jackman) who strike up a friendship and because of a mix-up in their mobile phones, the young auditor finds himself on the list of an exclusive sex club.

On "Empire" magazine's 1997 list of The Top 100 Movie Stares of All Time, he was ranked as number 36. As well as his work in movies and TV, he has also done considerable work in the theatre.

"Australia" is set in a part of northern Australia at the beginning of World War II. A young English aristocrat, Lady Sarah Ashley (Kidman), arrives in Australia to force her unfaithful husband to sell his large cattle station, Faraway Downs. (Cattle stations are called a Ranch in the US.) However when she arrives at the property, she finds that her husband has been murdered. A wealthy cattle owner wants to take her land, so she asks Drover (Jackman) to take her 2,000 head of cattle hundreds of miles to Darwin so they can be loaded on a boat for export, thus helping to save her cattle station. After many adventures along the way, they finally arrive in Darwin just prior to the Japanese bombing of that city. Of course Drover and Lady Sarah fall in love, and after further adventures, settle down in Faraway Downs.

Originally Russell Crowe was to play the role of Drover, but because of other commitments he was unavailable, so the role went to Jackman. Talking about the movie, he had this to say: "This is pretty much one of those roles that had me pinching myself all the way through the shoot. I got to shoot a big-budget, shamelessly old-fashioned romantic epic set against one of the most turbulent times in my native country's history, while, at the same time, celebrating that country's natural beauty, its people, its culture... I'll die a happy man knowing I've got this film on my CV."

In the very near future there are no human boxers, only robots. Charlie (Jackman) loses his robot, Ambush, in a fight with a bull. Charlie's girlfriend dies and he has custody of their son, Max, for three months. Charlie and Max then find an old robot, Atom, that will mimic its handler's movements. Atom proves successful and Max successfully challenges Atom against the national champion, Twin Cities, and then the global champion, Zeus.

In 2011 Jackman appeared in a one-man show in San Francisco at the Curran Theatre, which consisted of his favourite Broadway and Hollywood musicals, including "Oklahoma" and "The Boy from Oz". In 2012 he voiced the role of E.Aster Bunnymund (the Easter Bunny) in the animated film "Rise of the Guardians".

Jean Valjean (Jackman) is the protagonist in "Les Miserables" which was written in 1862 by Victor Hugo. Valjean was imprisoned for stealing a loaf of bread so he could feed his sister's children and the story goes on to tell of his long struggle after leaving prison to lead an ordinary life. The movie was nominated for eight Academy Awards and won three. Hugh Jackman was nominated for Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role, but lost to Daniel Day-Lewis for his performance in "Lincoln". However Jackman did win a Golden Globe for Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture Comedy or Musical, and a Screen Actors Guild nomination for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Leading Role. This film was unusual in that the actors sang live during filming, and did not mime their own voices to a prerecorded sound track.

Jackman had to lose weight for the early scenes but then had to put nearly twice as much back on when his character became more successful. He married Deborrah-Lee Furness in April 1996 and they have adopted two children.
