Jon Voight was nominated for a Golden Globe award for Best Actor, and Schroder won the Golden Globe for New Star of the Year in a Motion Picture.

"The River" (1984) starred Gibson with Sissy Spacek and Scott Glenn. "The Patriot" (2000) starred Gibson with Tom Wilkinson, Adam Baldwin, Jason Isaacs and Chris Cooper.
