Contrary to the instructions, one of them breaks the sacred circle and the spirit goes on a vengeful spree, killing everyone in the house.

Victoria, living in the Victorian home, is an 8-year-old girl played by Hannah Nordberg. Victoria is the one sitting in front of the dollhouse shown on the movie cover. Her big sister is 18-year-old Izzy, played by Brooke Butler. Aiden is a 7-year-old boy played by Dash Williams. I imagine Maiden was the name of John's deceased wife, which inspired the son's name Aiden by simply removing the M from it.

While up in the attic playing hide-and-seek, Victoria and Aiden stumble on the chestful of items that were left for more than a century. The old items they find include a doll, camera, photos, and a timepiece. The old items were owned by spirits that would come back to haunt the family.

Victoria becomes strongly attached to an old doll after finding it in the attic (the doll reminds her of her mother), while Aiden becomes attached to an old camera. John soon becomes attached to a watch. Eventually the old doll would have an effect on Victoria, leading John to try take away doll from her.

John becomes concerned when Victoria faints due to the spiritual effects of the doll she is holding while in bed. Then while asleep, John has a horrific nightmare about beating his little son Aiden to death. The nightmare must have been triggered by a spirit from the pocket watch he found in the attic.

It is unknown how John's wife passed away before the events of this film. It's possible [but doubtful] that John may have murdered his wife and gotten away with that.

One day, John goes into the attic and is stunned to find the spirit of a girl that looks like the same girl he saw in a photo from 1891. The ghost, named Elena, tells John to "burn them", meaning the old items in the chest that are causing problems in the house must be burned. John follows her commands to put the items into the cardboard box and throws them out of the house, but the items reappear back to where they were.

At 3:00 AM - the witching hour - John hears someone run and throw something, then he hears Victoria and Aiden screaming. He goes up into the attic and finds these two. Under demonic possession, Victoria and Aiden beat John to the cusp of death.

The dying father gives instructions to Izzy about how to get rid of those items for good. Izzy packs up the old items in the chest and brings it outside to set it on fire. It takes numerous tries to light the match before throwing it into them, freeing Victoria and Aiden from possession just before they get to Izzy. Relieved, Izzy hugs Victoria and Aiden and they will live happily ever after, but will have to live without their parents.
