"Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption" was a novella by Stephen King. The movie adds a couple of extra scenes and dialogue, but stays pretty close to the book, which is probably a big reason for the movie's success.

Stephen King is an American author who has written books such as "Carrie", "Under the Dome", and "Ur". He bases most of his stories in his home state of Maine, which is probably why the main character in his novella, Andy, is from Maine.

The movie shows Andy constantly getting hurt and beat up by them, as well as getting rid of them sometimes. Red states that Andy would sometimes have fresh bruises from these fights.

Andy met Jake when Brooks asked him if he was going to eat (what seemed to be)a mealworm. When Andy replied no and gave it to Brooks, Brooks reached into his jacket pocket and fed it to a small mouth coming from inside the pocket. Brooks stated that Jake said thanks for the meal.

He probably did this because he loved and appreciated music, and said it's one of the things prison can't take away from you.

Tommy told a story about how he was caught stealing TVs out of a JC Penney, and said the officer wanted him to put his hands up. Tommy said he couldn't because he had the TV in his arms, and would be charged with destruction of property as well if he dropped it!

When Andy asked Red why that was his name, he replied "Maybe it's because I'm Irish", but the more logical reason would be because his last name was Redding. This was probably used as irony.

Warden Norton accepted the box with a pie inside, as well as an envelope. There was money inside the envelope. He counted it, then looked up at the man and said, "Seems to me I've already got my boys committed elsewhere!"
