The names of the new neighbours across the street are the Russells. Ethan Russell is the first of the new family that Anna meets. He comes to see her with a lavender candle that is a gift from his mother. While there he alludes to the fact that his home life is not great and ends up spending quite a bit of time there, even borrowing some movies.

It is Ethan that is allergic to Anna's cat Punch. He is quite curious about Anna and asks quite a few questions.

This woman is also very curious and quite blunt. They end up chatting and bonding over wine.

When he is there Anna gives him her phone number and invites him to call her whenever he needs someone to talk to. We are given more insight into the type of person that Mr. Russell is, and it's not pleasant. Mr. Russell is not happy about the relationship between Anna and Ethan.

Anna spends a lot of time looking out her windows at her various neighbours. While she is watching the Russell household, she sees the woman she met get stabbed in the stomach. She frantically calls the police who show up with the Russell family and Anna is introduced to a woman named Mrs. Russell who is not the "Jane Russell" that she met.

She is convinced that they are tricking her and she steps up her watching of the family including searching for clues about them online and going so far as to call Mr. Russell's employer.

She learns that his former secretary died and thinks that he is involved in her death.

Anna has a tenant named David who lives in her basement. Anna learns that he was once in jail and broke his parole conditions. He tells her that he was defending himself in a bar fight and means to correct the situation. She asks him if he heard anything about the commotion across the street or saw anything and he claims that he did not. It seems everyone in this movie has a secret!

While trying to convince the detectives that it was Jane Russell who was murdered, Anna remembered a drawing that was given to her and signed with the name Jane on the night that they sat and drank wine together. She believes this is evidence that she is not making the whole thing up but this does not work. Anna is eventually convinced that she was wrong about the Russells and that she had hallucinated due to the new medication she was taking while drinking alcohol.

She apologizes to the Russells.

She later finds a photograph that she had taken of her cat Punch that has a reflection of "Jane" in it, opening up the mystery once more.

Throughout the movie, Anna has been talking on the phone to her husband and daughter. She mentioned to the Russells that she was separated. We learn that Anna's family died in a tragic car crash that was her fault. It was this event that caused Anna's issues and led to her have severe anxiety and panic attacks.

When she is confronted with the reality that her family is dead, she realizes that she is in a bad place and makes a decision to end her life. She is visited by Ethan once more who ends up being a serial killer.

He is responsible for the death of his dad's secretary, for David and for the original "Jane" Russell who is actually his birth mother who has been stalking him. He tries to kill Anna but she fights back and this incredibly traumatic event ends up helping her overcome her fears.
