Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. "Jerry Maguire" (1996) is all about a sports agent who loses his job and all but one of his clients. His client is played by Cuba Gooding, Jr, but who plays Cuba's wife?

Answer: Regina King

In "Jerry Maguire", King plays Marcee Tidwell, the overbearing and outspoken wife of Rod Tidwell. Although she is a bit blunt in her dealings with Jerry, she does have her and her family's best interests at heart.

Regina King has also plays a love interest in "Down to Earth" with Chris Rock, and seems to like sequels as she is in "If These Walls Could Talk 2", "Legally Blonde 2: Red, White and Blonde" and "Miss Congeniality 2: Armed and Fabulous".

Angela Bassett is in "Waiting to Exhale" and "What's Love Got to Do with It".
Gabrielle Union is in "Bring It On" and "Deliver Us from Eva".
Halle Berry is in "Monsters Ball" and "Catwoman".

This movie marks the second pairing of Bonnie Hunt (she plays Dorothy's sister) and Tom Cruise. They worked together for the first time in "Rain Man".
2. "The Royal Tenenbaums" (2001) centers around a family of prodigies reuniting, when they find out the patriarch who left them years ago has a terminal illness. Who plays the patriarch?

Answer: Gene Hackman

Gene Hackman does indeed play the patriarch, named Royal Tenenbaum. In "The Royal Tenenbaums", he portrays a real jerk. To name just a few of his misdeeds, he steals money from his son, he never invites his adopted daughter to visit his mother (his excuse: "Well, she wasn't your real grandmother, I didn't know how much interest you'd have.") and makes no effort to keep in touch with his children after his wife kicks him out. "The French Connection" and "Hoosiers" are just two of his credits.

Christopher Walken has been in "The Dead Zone", "Suicide Kings", "Catch Me if You Can" and many more.
Ben Stiller is in "The Royal Tenenbaums" but he plays one of the family prodigies. He is also in "Meet the Parents" and its sequel and "Zoolander" among others.
Jon Voight has appeared in "National Treasure" and "Transformers" to name just two.

This movie marks the second of four pairings of Bill Murray and writer/director Wes Anderson. The first was "Rushmore", the third was "The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou" and the fourth was "The Darjeeling Limited".
3. In "The Usual Suspects" (1995) five criminals are gathered for a line-up. Nothing is what it seems, and they can't trust anyone. One of the five, Dean Keaton, is a former police officer. Who plays him?

Answer: Gabriel Byrne

Gabriel Byrne's character, Dean Keaton, has faked his own death prior to the events in the movie. Apparently, he's been involved in police corruption and has ratted out his former friends. He's been up for a murder charge, but disappears before the trial. Once he's been declared dead, he resurfaces. The rest of the crew look to him as a leader.
According to interviews on the DVD, Gabriel Byrne refused to believe, and was very upset to find out, that his character was not Keyser Soze. Gabriel Byrne has also appeared in "Stigmata" and "Ghost Ship".

Kevin Spacey plays Roger "Verbal" Kint.
Kevin Pollock plays Todd Hockney.
Stephen Baldwin plays Michael McManus.
4. In "Knockaround Guys" (2001), sons of mobsters are desperately trying to fill their fathers' shoes and make them proud. Which young actors play Matty Demaret and Johnny Marbles?

Answer: Barry Pepper and Seth Green

In "Knockaround Guys", Barry Pepper, Seth Green, Vin Diesel and Andy Davoli are inept mobsters at best. It doesn't help that Teddy Deserves (John Malkovich) is running a scam of his own, and setting them up.
Barry Pepper has also been in "The Green Mile" and "Saving Private Ryan", both with Tom Hanks. Seth Green has also been in the Austin Powers movies as Scott Evil, and can be heard as the voice of Chris Griffin in "Family Guy."

Vin Diesel does have a role in "Knockaround Guys", while Vince Vaughn is in another wanna-be-gangster movie, "Made".
Vince Vaugh and Jon Favreau have collaborated many times, most notably in "Swingers" and "Made".
De Niro and Pesci have been in several gangster movies together, "Goodfellas" and "Casino" among them.
This is not the first time Malkovich has played a bad guy with underworld connections, he was also in "Rounders" as Teddy KGB.
5. In "Airborne" (1993), a California kid moves to Ohio to stay with his cousin, Wiley, and runs afoul of the local jocks, Augie among them. Which actors play Wiley and Augie?

Answer: Seth Green and Jack Black

In "Airborne", Seth Green, as Wiley, is a complete dork. The cool kids ignore him, he gets bullied constantly, and is a bit of a klutz. Jack Black, as Augie, has a bit role. He makes the most of it and manages to make himself very believable as a jock.
Seth Green has also done many voices on his show "Robot Chicken" and had the sidekick role in "Idle Hands". Jack Black has also been in "Tropic Thunder" and "Orange County".
Jason Patric and Keifer Sutherland star together in "The Lost Boys".
Wil Wheaton and River Phoenix both headline "Stand By Me".
Ben Savage and Rider Strong are the stars of the TV show "Boy Meets World".

"Airborne" also features the talents of Edie McClurg as Wiley's mother. Edie might be best known for her role as the absent-minded secretary Grace in "Ferris Bueller's Day Off".
6. "High Fidelity" (2000) is a movie based on a book by Nick Hornby. It's about a record store owner who breaks up with his girlfriend, has a fling with a musician, and tries to deal with the two dorks he's hired to help him run the store. Who plays the musician and one of the dorks that he's hired?

Answer: Lisa Bonet and Jack Black

Lisa Bonet plays Marie De Salle, a free spirited musician. She has no qualms about sleeping with Cusack's character, even though they've just met, and isn't looking for a relationship with him. Jack Black plays Barry, Cusack's employee. He's a music snob and jerky in a clueless sort of way, which makes him funny. In short, it's a typical Jack Black role.
Lisa Bonet may best be remembered for her role as a Huxtable in "The Cosby Show". Jack Black can also be heard as the title character in "Kung Fu Panda" and as a supporting character in "Shark Tale".
Val Kilmer and Meg Ryan costar together in "The Doors" as Jim Morrison and Pamela Courson. They are also both in "Top Gun".
Alanis Morrisette and Jason Mewes share some screentime in "Dogma" and are both in "Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back".
Maddona and Griffin Dunne star in "Who's That Girl?"

"High Fidelity" is one of several movies that has been adapted from novels by Nick Hornby. "Fever Pitch" has been adapted for the big screen two times, in 1997 and in 2005. "About a Boy" has also been adapted two times, once for the big screen, starring Hugh Grant, and once for television.
7. In "Boiler Room" (2000), a twenty-something year old man decides to stop running an illegal gambling operation out of his home after an old school friend lures him into the world of stock broking. There, he meets many other young men, one of whom has a penchant for starting fights. What two actors play the old friend and the fighter?

Answer: Jamie Kennedy and Scott Caan

In "Boiler Room", Jamie Kennedy's character, Adam, is more of a plot device, than an actual character. He's the one who introduces Seth (Giovanni Ribisi) into his world, his bosses and colleagues. Scott Caan, as Richie O'Flaherty, plays a stock character. He's a hotheaded jerk who likes to pick fights.

Scott Caan and Paul Walker have been onscreen together in "Varsity Blues" and "Into the Blue".

Jamie Kennedy is in all the first three "Scream" movies and in "Malibu's Most Wanted". Scott Caan has been in "Varisty Blues" and the first three "Ocean's Eleven" movies.

Scott Caan shares some screen time with Ben Affleck in this movie, and with Affleck's younger brother Casey in "Ocean's Eleven" and its sequels.

Nicky Katt and Vin Diesel are both in "Boiler Room". Nicky plays Giovanni's jerky boss, while Vin takes the role of mentor/friend.
Ben Affleck and Matt Damon have appeared together in "School Ties", "Glory Daze", "Good Will Hunting", "Chasing Amy", "Dogma", "Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back", "The Third Wheel" and "Jersey Girl".
8. "Mumford" (1999) is about a man who moves to a small town and poses as a psychiatrist. He ends up helping most of the townspeople, among them a young rich skateboarder. Which actors play the fake and the skater?

Answer: Loren Dean and Jason Lee

Loren Dean, as Mumford (we never learn his real name) is a bit of a lost soul. His posing as a psychiatrist isn't the first con he's pulled, but he seems to really enjoy helping people. Jason Lee, as Skip Skipperton, plays a dotcom millionaire. He's the inventor of a modem that's become the standard, making him a very rich man, but not helping his social life at all. He doesn't know how to relate to people, and Mumford helps him with that.

Jason Lee used to be a professional skateboarder before he became an actor, and his skills come in handy in this role, as he does all his own skateboarding.
Loren Dean has also been in "Gattaca" and "Space Cowboys". Jason Lee has been in "Mallrats" and "Chasing Amy".

Emile Hirsch and Johnny Knoxville appear together in the skateboard history biopic "Lords of Dogtown".
Anton Yelchin and Robert Downey Jr. are both in the kid-as-therapist comedy "Charlie Bartlett".
Devon Sawa and Seth Green are both in "Idle Hands".
9. In "Jersey Girl" (2004) a PR man loses his job after badmouthing his client. Years later, when trying to get back in the business, he gets job interviews just because people think he's a myth and want to meet him to see if he's real. Which actors play the client he's badmouthed and one of his interviewers?

Answer: Will Smith and Jason Lee

Will Smith plays himself in "Jersey Girl". He commiserates on parenting with Affleck's character, helping him to realize what's really important in his life. Jason Lee's role in this movie is one of those blink-and-you'll-miss-it types. He's onscreen for less than two minutes, but it does let Affleck's character realize what kind of a battle he'll face if he really wants to get back into the PR business.

Will Smith has been in "Independence Day" and the "Men In Black" movies. Jason Lee can also be heard as the title hero in "Underdog" and as the villain in "The Incredibles".

John Travolta and Gene Hackman are both in the Hollywood spoofing "Get Shorty".
Vince Vaughn and Dwayne Johnson are both in the "Get Shorty" sequel "Be Cool".
Kevin Spacey and Frank Whaley star in the Hollywood satire "Swimming with Sharks".

According to "An Evening with Kevin Smith 2: Evening Harder", before "Jersey Girl" started shooting, Ben Affleck assured Kevin Smith that since he had starred with Bruce Willis in "Armageddon", getting him to cameo as the famous person Affleck's character insults would be no problem. Unfortunately, Affleck couldn't come through and Will Smith stepped into the role.
10. What movie stars all these actors?

Answer: Enemy of the State

"Enemy of the State" is an action thriller starring all of the above. In it, a lawyer, played by Will Smith, is unwittingly given the video tape of a murder of a politician by an old school acquaintance of his, played by Jason Lee. Lisa Bonet plays one of Smith's informers, and his former lover, much to the consternation of his wife, played by Regina King. Jon Voight, with the help of Loren Dean, Gabriel Byrne, Jack Black, Jamie Kennedy, Seth Green, Scott Caan and Barry Pepper, sets out to retrieve the tape. Luckily, Gene Hackman helps Will Smith, after Lisa Bonet is murdered by Voight's men.

Tom Sizemore also has a role in the movie as a gangster. He would later work with Barry Pepper in "Saving Private Ryan".
