Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. "They're coming to get you, Barbara!" Who delivers the famous line of the movie that is also the title of this quiz?

Answer: Barbara's brother, Johnnie

Johnnie is just teasing his sister while they are going to visit the cemetery. Quite an unfortunate teasing, considering what is about to happen. This line is one of the most famous and recognised lines of horror movies of all time.

In the original movie, the heroine's name was actually spelled "Barbra"; it was changed to "Barbara" for this remake.

Like most of remakes (and I must say that usually I agree), this remake has been greatly panned, initially. While I love the original "Night of the Living Dead" movie, I must say I enjoy this remake as much.
2. What is written on the grave Barbara and Johnnie take flowers to?

Answer: Our beloved mother

The grave is their mother's, and the camera stops to give us a glance at the epitaph and their mother's picture. In the original 1968 movie, the grave is their father's, instead.
3. What is the name of the farmhouse our protagonists find refuge in?

Answer: M. Celeste

The name is clearly visible several times during the movie, in a tag hung beside the front door. I have always been amused by the fact that it's named "M. Celeste", hinting at the mystery of the Mary Celeste, a ship found adrift, with no trace of its crew or passengers, while everything else was fine and in perfect order. The other options are all names of famous ships.
4. After Barbara gets to the farmhouse, who helps her first?

Answer: Ben

Barbara has frantically escaped from the cemetery and has arrived to a seemingly abandoned farmhouse. She is completely frightened and in shock when she finds a couple of zombies in there. Luckily, Ben arrives, in a pickup truck, and helps her recover and fight them. Unfortunately, he must inform her that he's almost run out of fuel.
5. Where are Tom, Judy Rose and Harry Cooper hiding?

Answer: In the cellar

When Ben is carrying out the corpses of the zombies they killed in the house, Barbara hears the cellar door screeching and when it opens, she screams. Ben arrives to help her, and we discover three people have come out of the cellar, Tom, his girlfriend, Judy Rose, and Harry Cooper.
The farmhouse belongs to Tom's uncle, Rege.
Ben asks them why didn't they help them when they heard Barbara scream. Harry Cooper says that they just heard some "banging around" and they thought it was caused by "those things". Tom admits they were just too scared to come out, instead.
6. Apart from Tom, Judy Rose and Harry Cooper, who is also hiding in the farmhouse?

Answer: Helen Cooper and her daughter, Sarah

Harry Cooper's wife and daughter don't come out of the cellar, initially. We only hear Helen's voice asking her husband if everything's alright, and we can see her first when Ben has to go down the cellar looking for some solid wood.
Helen seems to be nicer than her husband, but she is almost totally submissive to him. She will try for a while to do what she thinks is right, rebelling to her husband's controlling ways.
Their daughter, Sarah, has been bitten. She is shown agonizing, trembling and feverish, laying on a table in the cellar.
Uncle Rege is one of the couple of zombies killed by Barbara and Ben when they first get to the house. The zombie version of Mr. McGruder attacks them later on, and poor Johnnie dies at the cemetery at the beginning of the movie.
7. What ignites some tension between the survivors?

Answer: Harry thinks they should all hide in the cellar; Ben thinks it would be a "deathtrap".

Harry Cooper insists that they should all go hide down in the cellar. Ben thinks he'd rather stay outside in the house, where there is always a way out. Harry and Ben clearly cannot stand each other. The other survivors agree with Ben, so while Cooper stays in the cellar with his wife and daughter, the others try to barricade the doors and windows. Ben had arrived in a pickup truck, but there wasn't enough fuel to try to go somewhere else with the vehicle. Tom and Judy Rose then say that the keys of the nearby gas pump must be somewhere in the house, because Uncle Rege had a copy of them. Unfortunately they don't seem to have any luck in finding the keys.
8. Once Ben, Tom and Judy Rose drive to the pump with the pickup, what happens?

Answer: The pump explodes, killing Tom and Judy Rose.

They believe they have found the gas pump keys by searching Uncle Rege's corpse. Once they get to the gas pump they realise they are not the right keys. Tom shoots the pump, which starts a fire and the pickup explodes, killing Tom and Judy Rose. Ben had fallen from the pickup, so he escapes the explosion, and goes back to the farmhouse, only to find Cooper assaulting Barbara to take her gun. Meanwhile, we can see that Sarah has turned into a zombie and kills Helen.
9. Who kills zombified Sarah?

Answer: Barbara

While Ben and Harry are arguing because Harry has just taken Barbara's gun, Sarah suddenly comes up from the cellar. Harry Cooper doesn't want to shoot his now zombified daughter. Ben wants to, and then Cooper opens fire. Ben shoots back and they both get wounded. Barbara shoots Sarah in the head before she can bite her. Ben tells Barbara he cannot escape, as he's badly injured.

She takes the gun and cries, telling him she will come back with some help. Cooper hides in the attic, while Ben goes hiding in the cellar, the very place he didn't want to end up hiding in.

He's about to shoot himself, when he sees the gas pump keys and laughs.
10. What happens to Barbara?

Answer: She escapes and is found by an armed posse, which she joins.

Barbara does indeed see her dead brother in a corpse pile, but while in the original movie this leads to her demise, in this remake her brother has already been killed again and put in a pile of corpses. Guarding this pile is a posse of armed men, who initially scare her.

She then joins them. She goes back to the farmhouse in the early morning, with the others. Ben comes up from the cellar, now a zombie. The men kill him. She is surprised by Harry Cooper, who survived the night. He smiles and tells her, "You have come back!" She angrily kills him, then coldly tells the other men, "Another one for the fire." In this remake version, Barbara is much stronger - she fights and survives - while in the original movie, she is quite a passive victim.
