Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In "The Godfather, Part II" the Sierra Boys Choir performed a special arrangement of a song for Michael Corleone. In "The Godfather," Michael and Kay Corleone danced to the same song at Connie Corleone's wedding. What was the song?

Answer: Mr. Wonderful

And the version in the original "Godfather" was the better of the two.
2. Joanne Whalley appeared in "Dance With a Stranger" and "Scandal." In both movies, the same song was playing when she first appears on the screen (in "Scandal", skip the opening Old Bailey sequence and look for her in the beginning of the actual story line). What was the song?

Answer: She Wore Red Feathers And A Hooley Hooley Skirt

And what a dumb song it was. In "Dance With a Stranger," she was an assistant bartender at the club run by Ruth Ellis. In "Scandal," she was the centerpiece of a nightclub revue when she was spotted by Steven Ward. "Running Bear" was the big nightclub production number in which Bridget Fonda upstaged the entire chorus line by appearing topless (part of her costume had been swiped). Whalley, the star, responded by whacking Fonda in the face with her costume wings.

It was the start of a great friendship!
3. Timothy Carhart appeared in both "Thelma & Louise" and "Witness." In both films, the same thing happened to his character soon after he first appeared on screen. What was it?

Answer: He was murdered

In "Witness" his murder was what the Amish boy saw that started the whole mystery. In "Thelma & Louise" he was shot by Louise after trying to rape Thelma in a nightclub parking lot.
4. In "The Crying Game," he was the bartender. In "Little Voice" he was the nightclub owner. In "Bullets over Broadway" he was an actor with a food compulsion. Who is he?

Answer: Jim Broadbent

If you see him in the cast, you know it's gonna be a good movie. Same goes for John Cusack and Chazz Palminteri, who were also in "Bullets over Broadway." Angus MacFadyen was Robert the Bruce in "Braveheart."
5. "The Six Wives of Henry VIII," "Cold Comfort Farm," and "Gaudy Night" (of the Lord Peter Wimsey series) all have who in common?

Answer: Sheila Burrell

She's fabulous! In "The Six Wives of Henry VIII," watch for the great camera shot where, as Lady Rochford, she betrays Anne Boleyn to Cromwell. Keith Michell played Henry VIII. Robert Hardy was Robert Dudley in "Elizabeth R," Siegfried Farnon on "All Creatures Great and Small," and Sir John Middleton in "Sense and Sensibility." John Ballard was the priest sent to murder Elizabeth I.
6. In "Love At First Bite," Susan St. James played Count Dracula's love interest (he said he'd known her various incarnations across the centuries). Who was she in her modern incarnation?

Answer: Cindy Sondheim, fashion model

Fashion model, disco patron and immaculate housekeeper. Laurette Patten, along with her sister Irene, were much in demand as commercial artists (they did fabulous old-time pinups). Sidney Biddle Barrows was The Mayflower Madam. Zelda Gilroy was forever unsuccessfully trying to snag Dobie Gillis on the TV series.
7. "Henry, Portrait of a Serial Killer" was a real shocker. What was true about it?

Answer: All of these

According to Roger Ebert, the backer, Waleed Ali, thought he was getting a horror exploitation flick instead of the realistic, nearly unratable film John McNaughton directed. The ratings battle was what kept it out of theaters for so long! Please don't watch this movie if the kids are in the house. Anywhere in the house.
8. "Prime Suspect III," "Persuasion," and "Circle of Friends" all had an actor in common. Who was he?

Answer: Ciaran Hinds

In "Persuasion," Ciaran Hinds played Captain Wentworth. In "Circle of Friends" he was the professor whose textbook was "The Sexual Life of Savages." In "Prime Suspect III," he played the director of a social service bureau. David Thewliss was also in "Prime Suspect III" as a vicious exploiter of children. Chris O'Donnell was the love interest in "Circle of Friends." Gary Oldman was in none of these movies (but he was in "Sid and Nancy," which is well worth renting and in "Bram Stoker's Dracula," which is not).
9. "Prime Suspect III," "Carrington," and "Dark City" all had an actor in common. Who was that?

Answer: Rufus Sewell

Though he starred in "Dark City," he didn't receive top billing in either "Carrington" (as Dora Carrington's first lover) or in "Prime Suspect III," where he was unforgettable as one of the sexual abuse victims. Jonathan Pryce played Lytton Strachey in "Carrington." Ralph Fiennes played two completely different characters in "Schindler's List" and "Quiz Show." Alex Kingston was in "Carrington" and "Moll Flanders," and is, incidentally, the ex-wife of Ralph Fiennes.
10. Eric Menyuk and John Snyder have what in common?

Answer: Both appeared on "Star Trek: The Next Generation"

Eric Menyuk was The Traveller in "Where No One Has Gone Before," "Remember Me," and "Journey's End." He discovered Wesley's genius but urged that Wesley's mother not be told, probably so that Wesley could grow up naturally. John Snyder was in "The Masterpiece Society." He rejected Troi because she wasn't racially pure, being half human and half Betazoid.
11. The movie, "Flower Drum Song," and the TV series "Barney Miller," and "M*A*S*H" all have who in common?

Answer: Jack Soo

Oh, did we lose a great comedian when Jack Soo died. The others were also in the film cast of "Flower Drum Song." Soo, Shigeta and Umeki were all Japanese actors -- ta da! -- playing Chinese characters.
12. "Romy and Michele's High School Reunion," "Circle of Friends" and "Emma" all have who in common?

Answer: Alan Cumming

Utterly different and utterly delicious roles: a reformed class geek in "Romy and Michele's High School Reunion," a repressed and ambitious Uriah Heep in "Circle of Friends," and a sanctimonious minister in "Emma." Vincent Ventresca was Romy's high school crush. Juliette Stevenson and Toni Collette were both in "Emma," Stevenson as the charming Mrs. Elton and Toni Collette as Harriet Smith, a far cry from her role in "Muriel's Wedding."
13. What was unusual about Mrs. and Miss Bates in "Emma?"

Answer: In real life, they were mother and daughter

Phyllida Law (mother) and Sophie Thompson (daughter) had no idea each was being cast in the movie.
14. "Carrington," "Emma," and "The Net" have what actor in common?

Answer: Jeremy Northam

He played an almost line-free role as the lover by whom Dora Carrington got pregnant (Lytton Strachey arranged an abortion for her). In "Emma," he was Emma's friend and husband, Mr. Knightley. In "The Net" he seduced Sandra Bullock (uh, her character, that is).
15. Speaking of the Lord Peter Wimsey series, which actors played him in the two BBC series?

Answer: Ian Carmichael and Edward Petherbridge

And no one can decide who was the best Lord Peter!
