"The Apartment" also starred Fred MacMurray and Ray Walston. It was nominated for ten Academy Awards and won five: Best Motion Picture, Best Director, Best Writing Story and Screenplay, Best Art Direction, and Best Film Editing. Jack Lemmon and Shirley MacLaine both won a BAFTA and Golden Globe Award for "The Apartment" and the movie itself also won a BAFTA.

"The Apartment" is listed on several American Film Institute lists. A poll was conducted in 2002 amongst film directors and "The Apartment" was voted the 14th "Greatest Film of All Time" (tying with "La Dolce Vita").

"From Russia With Love" starred Sean Connery as James Bond, Daniela Bianchi as Tatiana, and Lotte Lenya as Rosa Klebb who had the shoes with poison-tipped blades.

Lionel Bart (of "Oliver!" fame) wrote the theme song and it was sung by Matt Monro. The main soundtrack was written by John Barry, who also wrote the percussion theme, "007". A "From Russia With Love" video game was developed and released in 2005.

"The Dirty Dozen" had a stellar cast including Lee Marvin as Major Reisman, and, among others, Ernest Borgnine, Charles Bronson, Jim Brown, John Cassavetes, Richard Jaeckel, George Kennedy, Trini Lopez, Robert Ryan, Telly Savalas, Donald Sutherland, and Clint Walker.

The film was nominated for four Academy Awards, but only won one Oscar for Best Sound Effects. In the year of its release it made more money than any other film that year.

The role of Major Reisman was originally offered to John Wayne, who turned it down as did Jack Palance, before it ultimately went to Lee Marvin.

"The Miracle Worker" starred Patty Duke as Helen Keller, Anne Bancroft as Annie Sullivan, and Victor Jory as Captain Arthur Keller. It was nominated for five Academy Awards and won two: Best Actress (Anne Bancroft) and Best Supporting Actress (Patty Duke).

Anne Bancroft had won a Tony Award for her portrayal of Annie Sullivan in a Broadway play of "The Miracle Worker" but the production company wanted Elizabeth Taylor to play the role. Arthur Penn had directed the Broadway play and as he was to direct the film, he insisted that the role be given to Anne Bancroft. Patty Duke also played the role of Helen Keller in the Broadway play but, at 15 years of age, was considered too old to play Helen Keller in the film, but after Anne Bancroft was cast, so too was Patty Duke.

"The Miracle Worker" has been made for television in 1979 and 2000. In the 1979 production, Patty Duke played the role of Anne Sullivan.

"The Pink Panther" stars Peter Sellers as Inspector Jacques Clouseau, David Niven as Sir Charles Lytton, and Robert Wagner, Capucine and Claudia Cardinale. Henri Mancini wrote the music score including the now famous "Pink Panther" theme.

There have been many "Pink Panther" movies. Peter Sellers repeated his role as Inspector Clouseau in several of the movies with Steve Martin also playing that role more than once.

"The Graduate" was adapted as a stage play and has been a hit both in Broadway and London's West End.

Originally Director Mike Nichols wanted Doris Day for the part of Mrs Robinson and Robert Redford for the part of Benjamin Braddock. Ava Gardner was also keen to play Mrs Robinson. Patricia Neal was offered the part, but due to illness she had to turn it down.

"Lawrence of Arabia" starred Peter O'Toole as T.E. Lawrence. Also starring were Alec Guinness, Anthony Quinn, Jack Hawkins, Omar Sharif, Jose Ferrer, Anthony Quayle, Claude Rains, and many others.

The film was nominated for ten Academy Awards and won Oscars for Best Picture, Best Director, Best Art Direction, Best Cinematography, Best Substantially Original Score, Best Film Editing, and Best Sound. It won four BAFTA Awards and five Golden Globe Awards. The film also rates highly on several American Film Institute lists including the number one Epic Film on the list of "10 Top 10".

After surviving World War I, the real "Lawrence of Arabia", Lieutenant Colonel Thomas Edward Lawrence joined the Colonial Office in 1921, after which he changed his name to John Hume Ross, enlisting in the Royal Air Force. However, his real identity was discovered by reporters, and he was discharged. He then joined the Tank Corps under in 1923 under the name of Thomas Shaw and left in 1925. In late 1926 he again joined the RAF and spent two years in India. Two months after leaving the RAF in March 1935, he lost control of his motor-cycle, when he swerved to miss two boys on bicycles and was slammed to the ground. He died from his injuries six days later.

"Psycho" starred Anthony Perkins as the very disturbed Norman Bates and Janet Leigh as Marion Crane. It also featured, among others, Vera Miles, John Gavin, Martin Balsam.

The film appears on a number of American Film Institute lists including number one on the "100 Years... 100 Thrills" list. This film contains one of the most famous scenes in movie history, where Janet Leigh's character is stabbed to death in the shower. That three-minute scene took six days to film and was filmed from 77 different camera angles. After experimenting with hundreds of liquids in an attempt to simulate blood in the shower for his black and white masterpiece, Hitchcock famously settled on diluted chocolate syrup. And who can forget the creepy sound of those violins' staccato screeching?

The film was nominated for 11 Oscars and won 10, including Best Picture, Best Supporting Actor (George Chakiris), Best Supporting Actress (Rita Moreno) and seven more. The movie also appears on various American Film Institute lists and is number two on the "Greatest Movie Musicals" list.

"West Side Story" was adapted from a stage musical of the same name, which in turn, was loosely based on Shakespeare's "Romeo and Juliet".

Elvis Presley was originally asked to play the role of Tony, but his manager, Colonel Tom Parker, made Elvis decline the role as he thought it was not suitable for Elvis. Others to audition for the role of Tony were Bobby Darin, Warren Beatty, Tab Hunter, Burt Reynolds, Troy Donahue and Richard Chamberlain. Actresses to audition for the part of Maria were, among others, Jill St John, Audrey Hepburn, Diane Baker, and Suzanne Pleshette.

The voices of Tony and Maria were dubbed by Jimmy Bryant and Marni Nixon.
