Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. I was held captive on a submarine by four mastermind criminals. Who played me?

Answer: Reginald Denny

Denny, born on November 20th, 1891 in Richmond, Surrey, England, was cast as Commodore Schmidlapp. Commodore Schmidlapp was kidnapped by The Joker, Catwoman, The Riddler and The Penguin but had no idea he was kidnapped since they gave him a pill to prevent him from knowing.

He was first held captive in the four criminals' secret hideout down by the docks but was then given a pill to knock him out cold. He was then held captive on a submarine operated by all four of the criminals. When Robin attacked the submarine numerous times with a sonic charge gun, Commodore Schmidlapp was seen in a separate room reading a book.

In Commodore Schmidlapp's final scene, he witnessed Batman slapping a pair of handcuffs on Catwoman. Denny starred in the movies "Mr. Blandings Builds His Dream House", "Rebecca" and "Cat Ballou".
2. I was bitten by The Penguin's shark but luckily suffered no serious injuries. Who played me?

Answer: Adam West

West, a native of Walla Walla, Washington, portrayed Batman and his alter ego, Bruce Wayne. Batman was advised that Commodore Schmidlapp was kidnapped so he and Robin went out to sea to rescue him via the Batcopter. When Batman headed down a ladder to get onto the boat, he was shocked to see that the boat had disappeared and then a shark grabbed at his leg.

He used some shark repellent spray and the shark dropped back into the ocean and exploded. Shortly after this, Batman informed Robin that the boat they saw disappear was not real and instead a carefully crafted illusion.

When Batman and Robin went out to the location where they "saw" the boat, they came upon a buoy and inspected it to see if they could figure out which criminal(s) they were facing.

When the buoy became a giant magnet, trapping them due to the metal on their utility belts, Batman and Robin nearly faced death when a couple of torpedoes were launched at them. Batman managed to get a transmitter to reverse the polarity on two of the three torpedoes.

When the third one was fired, the batteries died in the transmitter but thankfully the torpedo did not hit the buoy. When Batman got back to the dock, he phoned the Navy Department and scolded an admiral there for selling a pre-atomic submarine to someone who did not leave a home address. Bruce Wayne went on a date with a woman named Kitka and it was on the date that he was kidnapped. West guest starred on the TV series "George Lopez", "Pacific Blue" and "Weird Science".
3. I told Batman he did good in disposing of a bomb which did not harm anyone. Who played me?

Answer: Burt Ward

Ward, born in 1945 in Los Angeles, California, was tapped to play Robin and his alter ego, Dick Grayson. Robin was first seen when he called the Gotham City Airport control tower to get the Batcopter ready so he and Batman could fly out to a yacht to rescue Commodore Schmidlapp.

When Robin saw that Batman had been bitten by a shark and the shark would not let go, Batman advised him to get the shark spray repellent. Robin climbed down the ladder to the Batcopter to hand Batman the spray. In a later scene, Robin believed that there were fingerprints on a buoy which would inform him and Batman who kidnapped Commodore Schmidlapp.

After Batman and Robin escaped being blown up by a torpedo, Robin commented on how a porpoise in the water got in the way of the third torpedo to save their lives. Midway through the movie, Batman gave Robin two riddles from The Riddler and Robin solved them.

The riddles implied that Kitka was in danger and this scared Batman and Robin. In one scene, Batman raced around the dock to get rid of a bomb he found and he thankfully disposed of it in an area where nobody was injured by it. Robin remarked on what a good job Batman did to take public safety into account when getting rid of the bomb. Ward was in the films "Moving Targets", "Virgin High" and "The Girl I Want".
4. I said that The Riddler's plan to have Bruce Wayne kidnapped was "delicious". Who played me?

Answer: Cesar Romero

Romero, born on February 15th, 1907 in New York City, landed the role of The Joker. When we first saw The Joker, he was in a hideout down by the dock with The Penguin, The Riddler and Catwoman. He saw The Penguin and The Riddler arguing so he decided to play a joke on them.

He went up to them and said they should make peace by shaking hands so he shook both their hands and had a stun device in both his hands. This caused The Riddler and The Penguin to yell in pain at what they had just experienced.

When Batman and Robin were trapped on the buoy, The Joker ordered that the torpedoes to the submarine be loaded and then fired on his command. In a later scene, right after The Riddler described his plan to have Bruce Wayne kidnapped, the Joker was heard saying that it was "delicious".

The Riddler, The Penguin and The Joker traveled via The Penguin's jumbo flying umbrellas to kidnap Bruce Wayne and The Joker let out a huge laugh while riding the umbrella in the sky. Midway through the movie, when Bruce Wayne was tied up at the four criminals' hideout, The Joker untied his hands to see if Bruce Wayne could take on all four of them as well as their henchmen.

When The Joker and the other three criminals made way to the United World Headquarters, he looked through the periscope and mentioned they were almost there. Throughout the movie, The Joker was seen on a couple of occasions with a purple mask around his eyes. Romero portrayed characters in the movies "The Thin Man", "The Right Way" and "Now You See Him, Now You Don't".
5. I went on a date with Bruce Wayne. Who played me?

Answer: Lee Meriwether

Meriwether was cast in the role of Catwoman. When we first saw her, she was at the Gotham City Police headquarters during a press conference and she disguised herself as a reporter from "The Moscow Bugle" named Kitka. Shortly after this, Catwoman went to the hideout where she and the Riddler, the Penguin and the Joker stayed to talk to them about the press conference.

When the Riddler asked her how it went, she commented that it was "purr-fect" as Batman and Robin could not recognize her as Catwoman. Midway through the movie, the four criminals met in their hideout and Catwoman mentioned to them their secret plan was to hold the members of the United World Security Council hostage.

She expressed disgust that they still had not killed Batman and Robin so the two crime fighters could foil their plot.

In a later scene, Catwoman, disguised as Kitka, went on a date with Bruce Wayne and gave him some riddles which she claimed came from the Riddler. In one moment on their date, Bruce told Kitka that she wished the United States and Russia were not so hostile towards one another and that they should work more diplomatically with each other.

When Bruce went to sleep in the carriage he and Kitka rode in to get to her penthouse, Kitka signaled to the Penguin, the Riddler and the Joker to head to the penthouse to kidnap him. Meriwether made guest starring appearances on the TV shows "Wizards of Waverly Place" and "Touched by an Angel". In July 1996, she began playing Ruth Martin on the ABC soap opera "All My Children", assuming the role from actress Mary Fickett.
6. I caused the Batcopter to malfunction by firing a rocket at it. Who played me?

Answer: Frank Gorshin

Gorshin, a native of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, portrayed The Riddler. When we first saw The Riddler, he was upset due to the fact that The Penguin's shark which exploded failed to kill Batman and Robin. When it came time to fire the torpedoes at Batman and Robin while they were trapped on the buoy, The Riddler chuckled and told The Penguin to fire them quickly.

In one scene, The Riddler sat at a table with Catwoman, The Joker and The Penguin and told them he had a great plan. He said they would kidnap Bruce Wayne and take them to the hideout so they could lure Batman and Robin there and kill them.

When Bruce was at Kitka's penthouse, The Riddler and the others entered the residence and Bruce punched The Riddler first but they all got the upper hand on Bruce.

While Bruce was at the four criminals' hideout with his hands tied behind his back, he asked to speak to Kitka. Bruce was blindfolded while Catwoman disguised herself as Kitka and The Riddler put them in a room together and told Bruce he had two minutes to talk to her.

In a later scene, The Riddler asked a henchman to fetch five people to aid him and the others in their plan to hold the members of the United World Security Council hostage. Near the end of the movie, The Riddler fired off a rocket while Batman and Robin were in their Batcopter and it caused their Batcopter to malfunction. He also used a riddle to lure the two to the United World headquarters. Gorshin was in the films "All Shook Up", "Castle Rock" and "Manna from Heaven".
7. I mentioned how I did not know Batman and Robin would have a can of shark spray repellent on them. Who played me?

Answer: Burgess Meredith

Meredith, born in 1907 in Cleveland, Ohio, played The Penguin. The Penguin owned the submarine which he and the others used throughout the movie. The Penguin was seen moaning around in the hideout and mentioned he did not know Batman and Robin had shark spray repellent to use on a shark of his.

There was one scene when the four criminals planned to go out to sea in the submarine and The Penguin notified two of the henchmen to get the submarine ready. While on the submarine, The Penguin had the magnet inside a buoy turned on when Batman and Robin were on the buoy.

While the two were trapped on the buoy, The Penguin told The Joker when to give the commands to have the torpedoes fired at Batman and Robin. Midway through the movie, The Penguin mentioned to the other three criminals they would use his jumbo flying umbrellas to head out to kidnap Bruce Wayne.

When Bruce Wayne was at the hideout, he ran towards the four criminals and it was when he did that The Penguin tripped him with his umbrella.

In a later scene, The Penguin instructed The Riddler to have the Gotham City Police lured to the United World headquarters. Meredith had guest starring roles on the TV series "Archie Bunker's Place", "Mannix" and "McCloud". In 1977, he received an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor for the film, "Rocky", but lost to Jason Robards for "All the President's Men". Other Oscar nominees for Best Supporting Actor that year were Laurence Olivier for "Marathon Man", Ned Beatty for "Network" and Burt Young for "Rocky".
8. I told Kitka she should not have asked Batman and Robin to take off their masks. Who played me?

Answer: Neil Hamilton

Hamilton, born on September 9th, 1899 in Lynn, Massachusetts, portrayed Commissioner Gordon. Batman and Robin gave a press conference on their adventure out at sea and a reporter there named Kitka asked the two to take off their masks. Commissioner Gordon blasted Kitka for asking them to do that but Batman reminded him that Kitka was from a foreign country and therefore did not understand how dangerous it was for them to reveal their true identities.

When the reporters left, Batman asked Commissioner Gordon to get a list of criminals at large so Commissioner Gordon told a secretary to get that information.

In a later scene, Commissioner Gordon read off a riddle that The Riddler sent to Batman and Robin about a dangerous animal sitting in a tree.

When Commissioner Gordon realized that The Penguin, Catwoman, The Joker and The Riddler all were working together, he said there was no contemplating what they could do. Robin informed Commissioner Gordon in a later scene that Kitka's life might be in danger due to a riddle he solved so he told Gordon that Bruce Wayne would be going on a date with Kitka.

While they were on the date, Robin phoned Commissioner Gordon to give him an update and said Kitka did not seem to be in danger that evening. Hamilton guest starred on the TV shows "The Debbie Reynolds Show", "Hank" and "Mister Ed".
9. I read off a riddle about a turkey at Gotham City Police headquarters. Who played me?

Answer: Stafford Repp

Repp was cast in the role of Chief O'Hara. Chief O'Hara was first seen at the press conference Batman and Robin held at Gotham City Police headquarters and he commented that the reporters were lucky they were holding a press conference. At police headquarters, Chief O'Hara commented on how what happened to Batman and Robin out at sea seemed to be a big riddle and that was when he, Commissioner Gordon, Batman and Robin suspected The Riddler of foul play. Midway through the film, Batman and Robin brought Chief O'Hara a riddle which The Riddler left them and Chief O'Hara read off the riddle, which was about a turkey. On the night when Bruce Wayne went on a date with Kitka, Commissioner Gordon asked Chief O'Hara to turn on the bat signal so as to distract The Penguin, The Joker, The Riddler and Catwoman.

At this time, neither Commissioner Gordon nor Chief O'Hara knew that Kitka was actually Catwoman. At the end of the movie, Chief O'Hara was seen with a somber look on his face when Commissioner Gordon called Batman to ask him if he could save the lives of the members of the United World Security Council. Chief O'Hara was relieved when he saw that Batman did indeed save their lives. Repp had roles in the movies "Plunder Road", "A Very Special Favor" and "The Cruel Tower".
10. Bruce asked me to show Kitka the way out of Wayne Manor. Who played me?

Answer: Alan Napier

Napier, a native of Birmingham, England, portrayed Alfred. Alfred was Bruce Wayne's butler and he was first seen outside Wayne Manor hanging out with Harriet Cooper. In a later scene, Bruce and Kitka had a meeting at Wayne Manor and Bruce asked Alfred to show Kitka the way out after their meeting concluded.

When Batman informed Robin and Alfred of his impending date with Kitka (as Bruce Wayne so she would not know he was Batman), he asked them to keep a lookout for anyone who might do Kitka any harm.

While keeping tabs on Bruce and Kitka, Dick, dressed as Robin, told Alfred that he felt uncomfortable listening in on Bruce and Kitka's private conversation. Alfred responded by saying that he understood Robin's concern. Robin and Alfred saw on a monitor in the Batmobile that Bruce and Kitka were bonding at her penthouse but it was the next time they glanced at the monitor that they noticed both Bruce and Kitka were gone. Napier guest starred on the TV series "The Paper Chase", "Kojak" and "Ironside".
