Precious went to class one day and mentioned that she enjoyed math but often did not speak up in school. One of her instructors was Mr. Wincher and Precious stated she would not mind getting married to him someday.

When one of Precious's classmates gave Mr. Wincher attitude, she went over and pushed him around a little since he was preventing her from listening. Mr. Wincher then got a note from the principal's office and he said that Precious was needed there.

While speaking with the principal, Ms. Lichtenstein, it was acknowledged that Precious was pregnant with her second child. Throughout the movie, Precious had a rather challenging relationship with her mother, Mary, with the two often seen fighting.

There was one scene where Precious revealed that she was HIV-positive. Sidibe guest starred on the TV show, "The Big C".

She threw something at her daughter and it knocked her down. Someone was at the door so Mary told Precious to answer it through the intercom. Mrs. Lichtenstein was there and offered Precious the chance to study at an alternative school while Mary listened in on this.

When Precious walked upstairs, Mary told her school would not help her out. It was revealed in this scene that Mary and Precious were on welfare. Mary then yelled at her daughter for bringing a White woman to her house but Precious said she only spoke to her through the intercom. Cornrows explained to Precious the form was to state why Precious was removed from her regular school and placed at the alternative institution. Precious stated the reason the other school did not want her was due to the fact she was pregnant but Cornrows said that did not matter since she needed it in writing.
