Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. I leaped onto a bus to try and stop it from exploding and managed to get most the passengers off that bus. Who played me?

Answer: Keanu Reeves

Reeves, born on September 2nd, 1964 in Beirut, Lebanon, was cast as Jack Traven. Traven was first seen when the LAPD S.W.A.T. team went to a business to try and deactivate a bomb attached to an elevator full of people. The team managed to get everyone safely out of the elevator and to safety.

Some time later, Jack's friend died when the bus he drove blew up. The bomber, Howard Payne, called him and told him there was another bus that had a bomb on it. Once that bus reached 50 mph, the bomb was armed and, if it dropped below 50 mph, it would blow up.

He told Jack the number of the bus and where it was located. Jack made it to the bus and was successful in getting most the passengers off before it exploded. At the end of the movie, Jack got into a scuffle with Payne and killed him. Reeves was in the movies "Something's Gotta Give", "The Matrix" and "Point Break".
2. I graduated from the University of Arizona and helped ensure the bus did not explode. Who played me?

Answer: Sandra Bullock

Bullock, a native of Arlington, Virginia, portrayed Annie Porter in "Speed". Annie was first seen running to catch the bus that had a bomb on it. Sam, the driver, stopped the bus in time for Annie to get on and take it to work. When Annie first got on the bus, the person she sat next to annoyed her so she secretly pulled the gum out of her mouth and claimed she had gum on her seat and had to move.

When Sam was shot, Annie took over as the driver and Jack, who was on the bus at that time, told her to keep it above 50 so the bus would not explode.

In one scene, it was revealed that Annie attended the University of Arizona and graduated from there. At the end of the film, Annie was taken hostage by Howard Payne but Jack saved her. Bullock reprised the role of Annie Porter for "Speed 2: Cruise Control".

She also had roles in the films "Miss Congeniality" and "Crash".
3. I used to be a police officer but then developed a love for bombs. Who played me?

Answer: Dennis Hopper

Hopper, born in 1936 in Dodge City, Kansas, played Howard Payne. Payne's plan to kill people was defeated at the beginning of the film since the bomb he placed on the elevator failed to detonate while passengers were inside. It was believed that Payne died in an explosion but he turned up alive when he called Jack after blowing up Jack's friend's bus. Payne was in a secret location and watched the bus that had the bomb on it (the one Annie drove).

It was revealed that Payne used to be a police officer and that was where he found out how to deal with bombs. Hopper had roles in the movies "Blue Velvet", "Super Mario Bros." and "Waterworld".

In 1987, Hopper received an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor for the film "Hoosiers", but he lost to Michael Caine of "Hannah and Her Sisters".

Other Oscar nominees for Best Supporting Actor that year were Denholm Elliott for "A Room with a View", Tom Berenger for "Platoon" and Willem Dafoe for "Platoon".
4. My fate was determined when I got off the bus prematurely and was blown to smithereens. Who played me?

Answer: Beth Grant

Grant was Helen in "Speed". Helen was a passenger on the bus that had an explosive attached to it that would go off if it went below 50 mph after getting to that speed. After Annie switched seats on the bus, she sat next to Helen and they spoke. Helen told Annie she took the bus to work every day and Annie responded that she loved her car and missed it.

Helen screamed when Sam was accidentally shot but was relieved that he could get off the bus early. Right after Sam got off the bus, courtesy of the LAPD, Helen attempted to get off but Jack promised Howard that nobody else would get off or else he would blow it up.

As Helen tried to get off, Payne pressed the detonator and a small part of the bus exploded. Helen was caught in the blast and died.

The bus did not completely explode. Grant guest starred on the TV shows "Pushing Daisies", "The Office" and "According to Jim".
5. I had a nickname that sounded like part of a burger at McDonald's. I told Jack and Harry that I was glad neither one died in the elevator incident. Who played me?

Answer: Joe Morton

Morton, born on October 18th, 1947 in New York City, landed the role of Captain "Mac" McMahon. McMahon organized the plan to rescue the passengers in the elevator that was rigged to explode. McMahon was pleased when his plan succeeded since nobody died from the elevator incident. McMahon was seen when Harry Temple and Jack Tavern received medals for their bravery over the elevator incident. Immediately after Harry and Jack got their medals, McMahon threw them a party at a bar and told them he was glad they did not die.

In the middle of the movie, McMahon helped Jack get under the bus to see if he could disarm the bomb but Jack was unsuccessful. Morton was seen in the movies "Terminator 2: Judgment Day", "Executive Decision" and "Forever Young".
6. I told Annie that it took me three hours to get to Los Angeles from Los Angeles International Airport since I got lost. Who played me?

Answer: Alan Ruck

Ruck, a native of Cleveland, Ohio, was cast as Stephens. Stephens was new to Los Angeles and spoke to Annie when she first got on the bus. He mentioned to her that he got so lost since it took him so long to get to LA from LAX but he at least came prepared with tourist books.

When Jack first looked under the bus, he gave a car phone to Stephens and told him to repeat to Harry everything he found. Stephens told Harry that Jack saw a watch with brass fittings and it was when Jack saw the bomb that he cursed but Stephens did not repeat the curse word. Near the end of the movie, Stephens was the last passenger to get off the bus. Ruck had guest starring roles on the TV series "Boston Legal", "Psych" and "The Ghost Whisperer".
7. I told Jack that he might get a cheap gold watch if he worked as a police officer for many years. Who played me?

Answer: Jeff Daniels

Daniels, born in 1955 in Athens, Georgia, was awarded the part of Harry Temple. Harry was an LAPD officer and was at the scene to help rescue the passengers from the elevator that was rigged to explode. Afterwards, Harry and Jack stayed behind to further investigate where the bomber was.

They found Howard in another elevator and Howard held Harry hostage but Jack shot Harry to get Howard to release him. Throughout the movie, Harry did some research on who the bomber could possibly be and it was about two thirds into the film that he figured out his name was Howard Payne.

When Harry and other officers went to Payne's residence, there was a bomb and it exploded, killing Harry and all the other officers there. Daniels starred in the movies "Arachnophobia", "The Butcher's Wife" and "Good Night, and Good Luck".
8. I was the first one who drove the bus that had a bomb ready to explode if I went above 50 mph and dropped below that speed. Who played me?

Answer: Hawthorne James

James had the small role of Sam, the bus driver. Sam drove bus number 2525 but was unaware that there was an explosive on it that would detonate if he got above 50 mph and dropped below that speed. He stopped the bus so Annie could get on board. When Sam took the bus on the freeway, he got upset when there was a traffic jam and he had to go slow.

At one point, Jack Traven got out of his car and ran to the bus and banged on the door to tell Sam to open it but Sam refused. When Jack managed to get in front of the bus with someone else's car, he had someone write a note that said "Bomb on bus", so Sam would know what the problem was. Sam saw the note and started to decelerate but Jack told him to keep the speed above 50. Jack got on the bus and, during a struggle with another passenger, Sam was accidentally shot. Jack called Howard to ask if Sam could get off the bus to receive medical attention. Howard allowed Sam to get off and Sam got off the bus and went to the hospital. James guest starred on the TV shows "ER", "Charmed" and "Roswell".
9. I owned a nice, sporty car that Jack used to get on the bus. Who played me?

Answer: Glenn Plummer

Plummer, born on August 18th, 1961 in Richmond, California, was cast in the small role of the owner of the Jaguar car. Jack almost got on the bus when he ran up to it but the bus sped away and he was left all alone on the freeway. Jack got out his police badge and the owner of the Jaguar stopped. Jack told him he was with the LAPD and he had to use his car and to get out.

The owner said it was his car, he owned it and it was not stolen. Jack pulled out his gun and told the owner that, as of that moment, the car was stolen. Jack mentioned that he had to get on the bus and the owner told him to just get on the bus and leave him to drive his Jaguar. Jack asked the owner if he had insurance and the owner replied he did. Jack decided to speed ahead of the bus, put the Jaguar in reverse and speed on the accelerator to take the door out to make it easier to get on the bus. Jack asked the owner of the Jaguar if he could use his car phone and the owner just put up his hands and told him to take the phone. Once Jack jumped onto the bus, the Jaguar owner took control of the wheel but he crashed into a water barrier on a median of the freeway. Plummer had guest starring stints on the TV series "Bones", "Medical Investigation" and "The Dead Zone".
10. Jack gave me a nickname that referred to my body size. Who played me

Answer: Carlos Carrasco

Carrasco was cast as Ortiz. Ortiz was on the bus and there was a moment when Jack called him by the nickname "Gigantor", but Ortiz told him his real name. Ortiz helped Jack out in getting the bus to make it over a gap in the freeway. When Jack came out alive after nearly dying from attempting to defuse the bomb, Ortiz grabbed him and celebrated that he was still alive.

At the end of the movie, Ortiz helped some of the passengers get off the bus and to safety. Carrasco guest starred on the TV shows "CSI: Crime Scene Investigation", "Angel" and "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine".
