James obviously liked Vesper, because instead of the drink having a 'bitter aftertaste' as suggested by Vesper, he said that it was because 'once you've tasted it, it's all you want to drink.'

Mr Dimitrios had gambled his car in a small stakes poker game at the Ocean Club in the Bahamas. James Bond had the right cards and won the car. When he came to collect it he met Solange. When they drove off, you clearly saw 'Bahamas' written at the bottom the the plate.

Ten poker players played, which included James Bond and Le Chiffre. The winnings were as high as $150 million, so James and Le Chiffre obviously wanted to win. James had to win the money to stop Le Chiffre from financing terrorists; if James lost then the English government would be directly financing terrorism.

It was an all or nothing game. James was seated next to the dealer, and directly opposite Le Chiffre.

We learned this when Vesper first met James on the train. It seemed they were having an intelligence contest, to see which of them knew more about the other by just looking at them. At the very beginning of the film, we saw James Bond and Dryden talking to each other about Bond's record. Dryden noticed that he had no kills on his record, however James had killed Dryden's contact by shooting him in a bathroom. After Dryden had been told of his contact's death, he said 'Made you feel it, did he? Well, you needn't worry.

Felix Leiter was sitting two places to the right of Bond in the poker game, and once Bond had lost his money, Felix offered to buy him back in. This was because Felix was losing chips and knew that Bond was better than him and could beat Le Chiffre. Felix needed to beat Le Chiffre, in order to get the CIA to bring him in with charges of financing terrorism, so he bought Bond back in so that they could both accomplish what they came there to do.
