Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Who directed this film?

Answer: Alfonso Cuarón

Even though he has directed many English language movies, he is a Mexican director. This film was made in 2001. Carlos Cuarón is the producer of "Y tu mamá también", and he is a relative of Alfonso. The other two, Almodóvar and Aristrain, are both directors of Latin movies. They directed, respectively, "All About My Mother" and "Martin (Hache)".
2. One of the main character has the same name as an old Mexican leader who founded a city. Which city are we talking about?

Answer: Tenochtitlan

The leader af the Azteca civilization led his people through the actual Mexico and founded a city in a place where they were supposed to see an eagle eating a snake over a cactus, taken literally as the words of the Gods. That leader was called Tenoch, just like Tenoch Iturbide, and founded the actual Mexico City, capital city of the same country.
3. Julio, Tenoch and Luisa made a trip to the beach on their vacation. Are the three of them Mexican?

Answer: No

The whole story is related to and developed in Mexico. Still, Luisa, Maribel Verdú's character, is a Spanish young woman who is married to a Mexican man; that's why she lives there. The actress who plays that role is also Spanish. She's appeared in movies like "Goya" and "Lovers".
4. Who played Julio?

Answer: Gael García

All of them work in this movie, but Diego Luna is Tenoch Iturbide, Andrés Almeida is the "Saba", and Arturo Ríos is Esteban.
5. Who was in the picture that hangs from the mirror in the boys' car?

Answer: Ernesto Guevara

Ernesto Guevara, better known as Che Guevara, is an Argentinian guerrilla, who fought side by side with Fidel Castro. He was killed in 1967 by the Bolivian army, by order of the U.S.A. He's well recalled and honored all through Latin America, even in those countries, like Mexico, where he didn't do much.
6. How did Julio, Tenoch and their closest friends called themselves?

Answer: charolastras

It was a name they invented, based on a song in English, or made mixing Mexican words; they're both theories anyway.
7. Who says: "And your mother too"?

Answer: Julio

It happened the last night they spent in the Boca del Cielo (Heaven's Mouth) when they were joking, drinking and confessing everything they had done. Julio tells Tenoch he has had sexual relations with his (Tenoch's) girlfriend many times. After that Julio tells him he made love with his mother too. The last thing was a joke anyway.
8. In the end of the movie who had become gay?

Answer: Daniel

After the uncomfortable situation Julio and Tenoch passed through, it was hard to keep their old friendship, so they get separated. Years later, they met each other and talked a little bit while they drank a cup of coffee. It's then when Julio tells Tenoch about their old friend, also a charolastra, Daniel, who had became gay ('Se ha hecho una loca'- in Spanish). Neither of them continued making out with men as they did with each other that night on the beach.

As a matter of fact, they both had girlfriends the last time they met.
9. What's the first scene in the movie?

Answer: Tenoch and Ana having sex

That was their way to say goodbye. It was, in fact, the last time they made love with each other, because when the girls got back from Europe they broke up with the charolastras.
10. Finally, what was not part of the manifesto?

Answer: Friends will be friends forever

There were 11 points in their manifesto. The signed it with blood, so they said. Anyway, they broke it many times, especially the number 5 which says: "You won't have sex with another charolastra's girlfriend".
