Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. This classic concept album is about a young musician whose neuroses cause him to hide behind a psychological barrier that he has created. This Pink Floyd album spent 15 weeks on the charts and won a Grammy for Best Engineering. Can you name this album?

Answer: The Wall

"The Wall" has been heralded as one of the greatest albums of all time by many critics. The album entered the charts on January 19, 1980.
2. This two-time Grammy winning album features the songs "Fire Lake" and "You'll Accomp'ny Me". Released in February 1980, what Bob Seger album spent six weeks on the Billboard charts?

Answer: Against the Wind

This Bob Seger classic featured a virtual Who's Who of accompanying musicians including Dr. John, Timothy B. Schmit, Glenn Frey and Don Henley. The album entered the charts on May 3.
3. Billy Joel's album, featuring the hits "You May Be Right" and "It's Still Rock and Roll To Me", spent six weeks on the charts and won the Male Vocal Grammy award in 1980. Name this album.

Answer: Glass Houses

"Glass Houses' was produced by the incredible Phil Ramone. Joel released this album of "hard" rock to garner the respect that he saw the punk rock and hard rock crowd getting. This album was also meant to dispel his image as a mainstream soft rocker that the critics had labeled him as. Whatever his motives were, this is the closest thing to a rock album Joel ever produced.

The album entered the charts on June 14, 1980.
4. What Queen album featured the song "Another One Bites the Dust"?

Answer: The Game

"The Game" is one of Queen's most commercially successful albums, spawning four hit singles ("Another One Bites the Dust", Crazy Little Thing Called Love, "Need Your Loving Tonight" and "Play the Game"). The album spent five weeks on the charts, entering on September 20, 1980.
5. This is the last album John Lennon ever released before being tragically gunned down in front of his New York apartment building.

Answer: Double Fantasy

"Double Fantasy" was recorded after a five year musical exile when Lennon enjoyed being father, husband and non-musician for the first time in his adult life. This album was created as a celebration of his relationship with Yoko Ono, therefore she gets equal time to explore her own breed of pop music. I always thought Ono's contributions to the album detracted from the consistent theme that Lennon had established, but the strength and excellence of his work overcomes and rings through.

The album spent eight weeks on the charts.
6. This album produced Bruce Springsteen's first top ten hit. Can you name it?

Answer: The River

"Hungry Heart" from "The River" was the first Springsteen single to make it into the top ten. There were five other singles that charted from this album ("I'm A Rocker", "Cadillac Ranch", "Fadeaway", "Ramrod" and "Point Blank"). The album spent four weeks on the charts, entering on November 4, 1980.
7. This album includes many leftovers from the "Some Girls" studio sessions. The album features the hit "She's So Cold" and the title track. Can you name this Rolling Stones album?

Answer: Emotional Rescue

"Emotional Rescue" is considered to be experimental from the typical Rolling Stones formula of album production. The album spent seven weeks on the charts, much on the heels of the "Some Girls" success. The album entered the chart on July 26, 1980.
8. This Jackson Browne album featured the hits "That Girl Could Sing" and "Boulevard".

Answer: Hold Out

This was Browne's sixth album. Although not as commercially or critically successful as his more popular albums, this effort is very listenable, if not catchy. The album only stayed on the chart for one week, but that week was at number one.
9. What Barbra Streisand album was her most commercially successful? The album was written and produced by Barry Gibb.

Answer: Guilty

Although this was her most successful album, it was her least characteristic, sounding more like a Bee Gees album slowed down a notch. The title track won a Grammy for Best Duet (with Barry Gibb). This album spent three weeks on the charts.
10. It's probably not surprising to find out that out of all the albums in this quiz, "The Wall" has sold the most copies worldwide. Can you name the artist whose album is second in total world sales out of those correct answers in this quiz?

Answer: Billy Joel

"The Wall" sold over 23 million copies while "Glass Houses" sold 7 million, more than any other album in this quiz. Don't feel bad for Mr. Joel though. He has outsold Pink Floyd in total album sales in his career. He has sold 77.5 million and Pink Floyd has sold 73.5 million. Data found in this quiz can be found at the Billboard and the Recording Industry Association of America's websites.
