Answer: They came out of a building on tour and some letters had fallen off it so it said "doors down" and there was 3 of them then, so they called themselves 3 Doors Down.

Brad says, "We came out of this building, and some of the letters had fallen of the front and it said 'Doors Down'. At the time there were just three of us, so we said '3 Doors Down'."
