Karen was born is Busan, South Korea in 1978 and her full name was Karen Lee Orzolek. Her mother was South Korean. The family moved to the USA and Karen grew up in New Jersey. Apart from vocals she also played piano.

Nicholas Joseph Zinner was born in 1974 in Sharon, Massachusetts. He studied photography at Bard College and has released a number of collections of his work. Apart from playing with the group he was involved with other musical projects and has contributed to albums such as "Digital Ash in a Digital Urn".

Once again the work of the band was acclaimed by the critics but this time it became the band's most successful, reaching number five in Billboard 200.
The album's cover showed a screaming baby being attacked by a giant mosquito.
