4. In the film "The Wizard of Oz", there is a scene where Dorothy is running away from Professor Marvel's gypsy stand. This scene also features the mighty tornado, which wrecks havoc in Kansas. At the end of the scene we see Dorothy being whisked away to Munchkin Land. Now, if you sync up this scene with the album "Dark Side of the Moon", what song will be playing? Hint

Question 5 of 10
5. When Dorothy meets the Wicked Witch of the West in the movie, the song "Us and Them" from the Pink Floyd album "Dark Side of the Moon" starts up. In this famous scene from "The Wizard of Oz", there are a lot of coincidences, mainly dealing with Dorothy and the Witch. Which of the following coincidences do not occur? Hint

Question 6 of 10
6. The song "Brain Damage" is a great piece of music, and is heard when we meet the Scarecrow in "The Wizard of Oz" if you sync up the two. Also he is doing something that makes the line sync up even more. What is he doing? Hint

Question 7 of 10
7. In the film "The Wizard of Oz", Dorothy and the Scarecrow meet another main character, the Tin Man. Also, if you sync up the famous Pink Floyd album "Dark Side of the Moon" with the movie, the album is almost ending. So when Dorothy listens to the Tin Man's chest, we hear the famous heart beat that comes in the album. What song near the end of "Dark Side of the Moon" is the heart beat heard in?

Answer: (One word - it's the last song on the album)
Question 8 of 10
8. Pink Floyd's masterpiece album "Wish You Were Here" is a classic in its own right. But thanks to some people who don't have lives, we have discovered that "Wish You Were Here" synced up with another great film, "It's a Wonderful Life". Who famous actor plays the part of George Bailey in the film? Hint

Question 9 of 10
9. When "It's a Wonderful Life" and "Wish You Were Here" are synced, we realize that the lyrics are more coincidental to the film's actions then the music. For example, when we are treated to a flashback of George Bailey's life, we see that it doesn't matter either he's either a kid or young man, he talks about plans to travel, go to college, and build great things. All that can be summed up into the line "remember when you were young; you shone like the sun" from a part in the song "Shine On You Crazy Diamond". What part of the song can these lyrics be found in? Hint

Question 10 of 10
10. One of the greatest rock songs of all-time, "Wish You Were Here", can be referenced to what George Bailey and his sweetheart, Mary, are thinking. During the scene when "Wish You Were Here" is playing, Mary and George are standing outside of an abandoned house where they are making wishes. True or false: Mary "wishes" that George was "here" living with her in the abandoned house.

Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Pink Floyd's world famous album "Dark Side of the Moon" has been known to have a striking number of coincidences with the hit movie "The Wizard of Oz". To hear these coincidences, when must you start the album?

Answer: On the third roar of the MGM lion

Apparently there are certain versions of both the movie and the album that you must own to try out the coincidences. According to wwwsongfacts.com, "you must have either the 25th Anniversary edition, digitally mastered edition, or the hybrid SACD, and the NTSC version of the movie, not the 25 fps PAL version which runs a little over 4 percent faster".

Although it may be very difficult to attempt nowadays with DVDs and remastered CDs, if you own both the required versions to try out the coincidence, be my guest.
2. Now, all the accordances between "Dark Side of the Moon" and "Wizard of Oz" end at the end of the film, so you must replay the album about two and a half times. One of the first coincidences occurs when Dorothy is balancing on a fence as the line "Balanced on the biggest wave" comes. What song is that line taken out of?

Answer: Breathe

"Breathe" is a song about an old man telling a small baby to breathe. Then the man starts explaining all the unfortunate things in life to the baby. "Breathe" is connected with the album's starting song, "Speak to Me" on "Dark Side of the Moon". Dorothy falls off the fence when the next song on the album, "On the Run", begins. Notably, Toto's ears perk up at the sound of an explosion at the end of "On the Run".
3. The brilliant song "Time" is famous for starting with bells and alarms being played all at the same time. What character do we first meet in "The Wizard of Oz" when this song starts off from "Dark Side of the Moon"?

Answer: Ms. Gulch

Ms. Gulch is known to be a nasty old hag to Dorothy and her family, and to pretty much the whole town. She is transformed into the Wicked Witch of the West when Dorothy is whisked away into the land of Oz. Anyway, other coincidences in the song "Time" are very interesting and right on track.

For example, the line "Kicking around on a piece of ground in your home town" is heard when Toto escapes Ms. Gulch's bag and "hits a piece of ground" and is "kicking off" to head back to Dorothy in his "home town". Also, the line "No one told you when to run" comes up when Dorothy is running away from home.

Answer: The Great Gig in the Sky

One of the most impressive segments of the sync, I think, is when this scene is taking place. The piece first starts off with Dorothy grabbing her bag and running away from Marvel, while the song "The Great Gig in the Sky" starts. Then we hear a slide guitar, sounding like a warning siren, when we see the mighty tornado.

The line "And I am not afraid of dying" is heard when the tornado approaches a house. The drum kicks in when a tree is uprooted by the wind, and then Clare Torry's wailing keeps with the mood of intensity in the movie (like when Dorothy is running from the tornado and banging on the storm shelter door, or when the door flies off its hinges). Torry's wailing fades as Dorothy hits her head on the window and she starts to dream. All in all, the scene is quite amazing.

Answer: On the line "there's room for you inside" the Munchkin is beckoning Dorothy into its home

There are many more minor coincidences involved with the song "Us and Them", but the most major is most likely the line "black and blue". When Gilmour sings black, it shows the Wicked Witch of the West in her black outfit, and when Gilmour sings blue, it shows Dorothy in her blue outfit.

The magnificent scene with the Munchkins end when the song "Us and Them" ends, as Dorothy makes her way to Oz, as the song "Any Colour You Like" starts.
6. The song "Brain Damage" is a great piece of music, and is heard when we meet the Scarecrow in "The Wizard of Oz" if you sync up the two. When the line "the lunatic is on the grass" is heard, we see the Scarecrow. Though he may not be on the grass, the Scarecrow is certainly made of it. Also he is doing something that makes the line sync up even more. What is he doing?

Answer: Dancing around like a lunatic

Also most notable sync ups, with the song and the scene with the Scarecrow and the scene thereafter, is that when the line "you raise the blade" is sung we see a Toucan, with a bill resembling a blade, is raising its bill up in the air. Also the line "thunder in your ear" comes on when the apple trees are screaming at Dorothy.

There are not too many very significant coincidences toward the end of the first play of the CD and the part of the movie that is on, but there is one that is really interesting and fun to read and see.

Answer: Eclipse

Yes, my personal favorite sync up between "Dark Side of the Moon" and "The Wizard of Oz" is when the heart beat grows fainter in the song "Eclipse" as Dorothy listens for the Tin Man's heart beat. And as we all know, the Tin Man has no heart. There are other coincidences between the song and the scene, too.

The line "all that you touch" comes along when Dorothy touches a man's arm. Also, the line "all that you see" is heard when Dorothy and the Scarecrow see the oil can, something the Tin Man wants. Of course this is not the end of all the coincidences, in fact if you continue to play the album or CD continuously, you can hear many more sync ups.

But everyone will agree that the first play of "Dark Side of the Moon" is the most entertaining.

Answer: James Stewart

"It's a Wonderful Life" is known as one of the greatest films ever made. Released in 1946, this film tells the tale of one man who wishes he was never born, but then realizes how much the world is worse off without him. Once again, a Pink Floyd album syncs up with an old time classic.

Answer: Part IV

Another set of lyrics can also be associated with George Bailey's life. "Come on you raver, you seer of visions, come on you painter, you piper, you prisoner, and shine!" are connections to what George is. He was a "seer of visions", always seeing himself succeed.

But then he became a "prisoner" in Bedford Falls. He is sometimes a "raver" ("Am I talking too much?"), and he was sort of a pied "piper" during the panic of the Depression.

Answer: True

Mary tells George that she wishes that he was with her living in the old Granville House (the abandoned house). This ties in with the lyrics about how the lead singer wishes someone was with him. These lyrics can also be associated with George.

All of the coincidences from "Dark Side of the Moon" and "Wizard of Oz" to "Wish You Were Here" and "It's a Wonderful Life" are very interesting and entertaining to witness. The band denies that they made these coincidences on purpose, but yet people still believe they had a copy of each movie in the studio while recording the albums. The syncs still remain a mystery.
