Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. To the strains of which 1964 song, titled the same as the film, does Sean Connery dash over the screen to chase down a smuggler?

Answer: Goldfinger

A haunting piece about "the man with the Midas touch", "Goldfinger" turned out to be a huge success for the singer, Shirley Bassey. Despite only gaining #21 in the United Kingdom, it reached number eight on the Billboard Hot 100 list, becoming Bassey's first and only song to do so.

Welsh singer Dame Shirley Bassey enjoyed much success with her three Bond themes "Goldfinger", "Diamonds Are Forever", and "Moonraker". However, she came to fame before singing the songs, and particularly in Europe she is known for hits such as "Big Spender", "Something", and "I Am What I Am".
2. YOLO...or not. 007 returns to prove that he lives twice in the aptly named Bond film "You Only Live Twice", with the theme song sung by which member of the famous Sinatra family?

Answer: Nancy Sinatra

"You Only Live Twice" by Nancy Sinatra tells you that you live twice, once for yourself and once for your dreams, in a more upbeat Bond theme with recognizable lyrics. The song merely reached number forty-four on the Billboard Hot 100 list in 1967, yet proved to be one of Nancy's bigger hits. "You Only Live Twice" is also well known for the many cover versions by notable artists such as Soft Cell, Coldplay, Shirley Bassey, and Cee-Lo Green.

The eldest daughter of Frank Sinatra, Nancy naturally went into music, and had several hits aside from "You Only Live Twice". They include her most famous, "These Boots Are Made For Walkin'", her duet with her father entitled "Somethin' Stupid", and "Some Velvet Morning".

The incorrect answers are members of the Sinatra family: Frank Sinatra, Sr.'s three children, in order from eldest to youngest, are Nancy, Frank Jr., and Christina, or Tina.
3. Live and let the Beatle sing! Which singer, famous for having been a member of The Beatles, performed the theme song for "Live and Let Die" in 1973 with his band?

Answer: Paul McCartney

"Live and Let Die" by Paul McCartney & Wings rose to instant success, hitting a high of number two on the Billboard Hot 100 and number nine on the UK Singles Chart. The song was written by Paul and Linda McCartney, and has a catchy chorus of the title. Many artists covered this song, too, such as Guns N' Roses, Hank Marvin, lead guitarist of The Shadows, Geri Halliwell, one of the Spice Girls, and McFly.

British singer Paul McCartney rocketed to fame with his fellow Beatles, together recording famous albums such as "Rubber Soul", "Revolver", and "The Beatles". Following the disbanding of The Beatles, McCartney continued recording on his own before creating a band called "The Wings", with whom he sang "Live and Let Die". A few selection's from his many hits are "My Love", "Mull of Kintyre", and "Ebony and Ivory".
4. As a change, the theme song for "The Spy Who Loved Me" did not have the same name as the film. What was the title of that song by Carly Simon?

Answer: Nobody Does It Better

The title "Nobody Does It Better" seems from the lyrics to mean that nobody does what the "spy who loves me" does better than, well, the "spy who loves me". The song was one of Carly's top hits, peaking at number two in 1977 and lasting on the charts longer than Carly's previous hit "You're So Vain".

American singer-songwriter Carly Simon had several top hits in her career that began in the 1960s. Prior to "Nobody Does It Better", her successes included "Anticipation" and "You're So Vain". After her hit with the 007 theme song, she went on to record well known singles, including "Let The River Run".
5. This film is for someone else's eyes only. Oh well, all you need is the song, right? For whose eyes - or in this case, ears - only did Sheena Easton sing one of the Bond films' theme songs?

Answer: Your

The 1981 James Bond film "For Your Eyes Only" featured the theme song, also called "For Your Eyes Only", by Sheena Easton. The song with its soft melody complemented by Easton's piercing vocals quickly became one of the singer's top hits.

Scottish singer Sheena Easton is probably most widely recognized for singing "For Your Eyes Only", and appearing in the film's title credits, the first time any singer of a Bond theme song had done so. Easton did have several other hits, "9 to 5", "Strut", "U Got the Look", and "The Lover In Me".
6. All you need is...a song? Nope. All you need is now. Which English rock band who released an album entitled "All You Need Is Now" lent their vocals to the main theme of "A View To Kill"?

Answer: Duran Duran

Duran Duran's dark and energetic "A View To Kill" rocketed to high placings in charts all over the world, including a number one in 1985 on the Billboard Hot 100, making Duran Duran's thirteenth single the first Bond theme song to top the Billboard. The song was also one of the first theme songs of the Bond films to venture into rock and New Wave genres.

Duran Duran is an English rock band consisted of Nick Rhodes, John Taylor, Roger Taylor, Aaron Taylor, Simon Le Bon, and later Warren Currucullo and Sterling Campbell. Their albums spawned hit singles such as "Hungry Like a Wolf", "Save A Prayer", "Is There Something I Should Know?", "The Reflex", and more. Their thirteenth studio album, "All You Need Is Now", was released in 2012 and 2011. Three singles from the album, "All You Need Is Now", "Girl Panic!" and "Leave the Light On" were released.
7. Aha! I've heard that before. The band A-ha sang the lyrics of the theme song for which Bond film?

Answer: The Living Daylights

Recorded for the 1987 film "The Living Daylights", the "The Living Daylights" song by A-ha enjoyed widespread popularity, as despite not charting on the Billboard Hot 100 it reached the top ten in singles charts in other countries. The upbeat song also sent Bond music into the rock genre, incorporating elements of synthpop, too. Well if the song really is all you need, some variety would be nice, no?

Morten Harket, Magne Furuholmen, and Pal Waaktaar launched their career as A-ha, a Norwegian band, in 1982. It proved to be very successful, and from the start till they split in 2010, they recorded popular albums and acclaimed singles such as "The Sun Always Shines on TV", "Summer Moved On", "Celice", and many others.
8. The talented Tina Turner tried to trill that tune. In which film was Pierce Brosnan's acting graced by Turner's singing?

Answer: GoldenEye

Pierce Brosnan's debut as 007 in the 1995 film "GoldenEye" was heralded by an enchanting rock and R&B song belted out by Tina Turner. The song was a great success, bringing the diva several top ten chartings in European charts, although it did not garner the same recognition in the United States.

"The Queen of Rock" began a wildly successful career in 1958. She started out as part of a duo with her husband, Ike. The two of them enjoyed fame with the songs "A Fool In Love", "River Deep - Mountain High", and a cover of "Proud Mary". In 1978, Turner set out on her own musical career. A cover of "Let's Stay Together" , "What's Love Got To Do With It", and "What You Get is What You See" form a few links in her chain of hits. After a short hiatus, she recorded "GoldenEye" in 1995.
9. Strike a pose! "Die Another Day" saw the singer of the theme song posing alongside Pierce Brosnan. Which "Vogue" artist was this?

Answer: Madonna

The 2002 film "Die Another Day" started off with a bang as Madonna plunged into her energetic dance-pop and electroclash song "Die Another Day". Later, she appeared in the film as Verity, fencing instructor of the evil villain, Gustav Graves. The song charged to the high rankings of Billboard charts, also peaking in the top ten of charts in other countries. Madonna's music video accompanying the song was one of the most expensive ones ever made, costing over six million dollars. In the video, scenes of Madonna escaping from enemies are interspliced with her singing the song.

American singer-songwriter Madonna had a string of very popular albums that spawned famous singles such as "Like a Prayer", "Into the Groove", and "Vogue", to name a few. "Vogue" brought her number one positions on many charts, including the Billboard Hot 100 and several awards. In the song, she introduces vogue dancing.
10. The release of "Skyfall" in 2012 was eagerly looked forward to by fans not only of the Bond films, but also of the famous singer known for hits such as "Someone Like You" and "Set Fire to the Rain". Who was she?

Answer: Adele

Skyfall! All you need is surely the song. There is much to say about the song's success. It became the first James Bond theme song to win a Golden Globe Award, a Brit Award, or a Academy Award, let alone winning them all at once. The song stayed high in the Billboard charts, and peaked at number one in several European countries. Yet - in my opinion - words cannot be found for Adele's breathtaking delivery of the stirring chorus: "let the Skyfal-l-l-l-l-l, when it cru-u-u-u-mbles, we will stand ta-a-a-a-all, and face it al-l-l-l, together, at Skyfall!" Form and voice your own conclusions!

English singer-songwriter Adele kickstarted her career with her debut album, 19. Three singles, "Chasing Pavements", "Hometown Glory", and "Cold Shoulder" were released from the album, and garnered much attention and success. Her second album, 21, surpassed the first by a long shot, with the five singles, "Rolling in the Deep", "Rumour Has It", "Someone Like You", "Set Fire to the Rain", and "Turning Tables" rocketing the 21 year old singer to the top of the charts and immortalizing her forever in fame.
