The group got together in Waverley, Nova Scotia near Halifax in 1969. They managed to produce several albums, put on numerous concerts and became a popular band both on the domestic and international stage. The name of the band was based on a random selection of words which sounded like a good pair.

The original band consisted of brothers David and Ritchie Henman, their cousin Jim Henman and friend Myles Goodwyn who would go on to be the long time leader of the group. In 1970, they moved to Montreal, Quebec where they would make their first album and while there, Jim Clench replaced Jim Henman on bass guitar.
