"A Fifth of Beethoven" was written by Walter Murphy, who also wrote and arranged music for Doc Severensen and "The Tonight Show" band.
Murphy also made a living writing commercial jingles for companies such as Revlon, Woolworths, and Lady Arrow, to name a few.
2. What was the #9 hit for the year 1976? "My heart is on fire, My soul's like a wheel that's turnin'. My love is alive, my love is alive, yeah, yeah, yeah."

It's interesting that Bob Shannon chose Gary Wright's "Love is Alive" as his #9 pick, when Wright's hit "Dream Weaver", released the same year, actually sold more copies. Wright studied psychology, including post-graduate studies in Berlin, before trying his hand at a career in music.

Written by Warren Moore and William Griffin "Love Machine" was a huge, post Smokey Robinson hit for The Miracles. The song hit number one, and spent an impressive six months on the charts in total.

Answer: 50 Ways to Leave Your Lover

"50 Ways to Leave Your Lover" was a number one hit for Paul Simon, off of his album "Still Crazy After All These Years". When Simon received a grammy for "Still Crazy", he thanked Stevie Wonder for not releasing an album that year.

Wild Cherry took their name off of a box of cough drops. "Play That Funky Music" was written because people really did come up to them when they were playing gigs and ask them to "play that funky music".

The Manhattans were very successful recording artists in the 60s. In 1970 their lead singer had to quit due to ill health, and Gerald Ashton joined the group. "Kiss and Say Goodbye", written by band member Blue Lovett, was a number one hit on both the pop and R&B charts.

"December, 1963 (Oh What a Night)" was a huge come back hit for The Four Seasons, giving them their first number one hit in over ten years. In their 40 years of recording together, they sold 100 million records, but did fall into a slump in the late sixties.

Banned by many radio stations because of its suggestive lyrics, "Disco Lady" was a number one, platinum selling hit for Johnny Taylor. Taylor was a very versatile performer, trying his hand at Gospel, Pop, Blues, Memphis Soul, Doo Wopp and Disco over the course of his career.

Elton John's contribution to BRI's 1976 hit list is this upbeat duet with Kiki Dee. Elton actually founded "Rocket", a record label (which was distributed by MCA Records) so that he could produce performers like Kiki Dee and Neil Sedaka.
