Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. "We're all a scene in Mona's dream."

Answer: Je Ne M'En Souviens Pas

Better Than Ezra consists of Kevin Griffin (guitar and vocals), Travis McNabb (drums), and Tom Drummond (bass). "Je Ne M'en Souviens Pas" means "I Don't Remember It," in French.
2. "White light, descending like the color of rain..."

Answer: Southern Gurl

Better Than Ezra are actually from Baton Rouge, Lousiana, although they'd like people to believe they're from New Orleans. The band claims that they wrote this song when they were in California and homesick for Lousiana. Their lead singer, Kevin Griffin, said that they just wanted something that reminded them of home, and that desire resulted in the song "Southern Gurl."
3. "In the words you are feigning, do you even care?"

Answer: Porcelain

Better Than Ezra got their start playing at fraternities and bars. "Porcelain" is about unrequited love and obsession. Kevin says, "This is a song about being completely and totally infatuated with someone to the point where you follow them home and watch them go back and forth in front of their window."
4. "And Ramen noodles at 4:30 in the morning when we barely could survive..."

Answer: Under You

Better Than Ezra was originally Kevin, Tom, and Cary Bonnecaze. Bonnecaze left the band on amiable terms and was replaced by Travis McNabb. Although Deluxe the band refers to "Deluxe" as their first album, in 1990 they had released a self-produced cassete only album called "Surprise." "Surprise" is now considered to be very rare and is almost impossible to find.
5. "I remember running through the wet grass and falling a step behind..."

Answer: Desperately Wanting

6. "All that wasted talent, but uh, ain't that how it always goes?"

Answer: Allison Foley

"Allison Foley," the fifth track off "How Does Your Garden Grow?" is about a spoiled rich girl who really had no goals in life because she's always had everything handed to her.
7. "Here we are, foreign to their world..."

Answer: At the Stars

Another huge hit for Ezra, this got a LOT of airplay on alternative and pop stations. A lot of people have heard this song and don't realize that it's by Better Than Ezra.
8. "When the lights go up, and the sun has nearly gone down."

Answer: King of New Orleans

9. "Well, it's the way we shake and sway. Oh, and it's the passion that you play..."

Answer: In the Blood

"In The Blood" was the first track off of "Deluxe," Better Than Ezra's first album.
10. "If you walk real fast, and you stay down low..."

Answer: Rosealia

"What has he done, my senorita? His kind of love is going to kill you. Do you fake a smile when you dodge the blows? So many times, so many chances, this one could be your last." As the lyrics suggest, "Rosealia" is supposed to be about a woman in a bad situation with her boyfriend (i.e. domestic abuse). Kevin Griffin says, "Rosealia is a very good friend in Santa Fe, New Mexico, and everyone goes through some bad times and this person happened to be in a bad situation, bad relationship and got out of it, like a lot of people I know. And it was like, it was more of a mentally-abusive relationship, and you know...it's a song about her." Rosealia was a big hit for the band: it got a lot of airplay on alternative stations and there was a music video for it.
11. "You come alive to see another's end..."

Answer: One More Murder

This song was featured on the soundtrack for "The X-Files" movie. Other bands featured on that album include The Cure, The Foo Fighters, Sting and Aswad, and The Cardigans.
12. "Sweeter than sour, but getting thinner by the hour."

Answer: Extra Ordinary

13. "Low dress blowing in the wind..."

Answer: Like It Like That

14. "Rather it be me than go without it. So don't think about it right now."

Answer: Long Lost

15. "Pieces of note fall down, but the letter said..."

Answer: Good

"Good" was really Better Than Ezra's breakthrough. It was their first hit, and it was huge when it came out in 1995. As of 2002, they've had other singles, but none have been able to duplicate the huge success of "Good."
