Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. 1994 - "All for Love"

Answer: Bryan Adams / Rod Stewart / Sting

Recorded by Bryan Adams, Rod Stewart and Sting for the soundtrack for 1993's "The Three Musketeers", "All for Love" was written by Bryan Adams, Robert John "Mutt" Lange, and Michael Kamen. A worldwide hit, the song was released as a single (in the U.S.) on November 16th, 1993.

This power ballad debuted on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 at Number 51 in the week ending November 27th, and moved steadily up the chart to reach Number One in the week ending January 22nd, 1994. "All for Love" remained at Number One for three weeks, and spent a total of 22 weeks.

Adams also recorded a French version of the song, which he titled, "Tous ensemble" (All Together), for the 2013 film "Il était une fois Les Boys" (When We Were Boys).
2. 1995 - "Creep"

Answer: TLC

"Creep" was written by Dallas Austin and recorded by TLC (Tionne "T-Boz" Watkins, Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes, and Rozonda "Chilli" Thomas at the time) for their second studio album, "CrazySexyCool". The song was released as a single on October 31st, 1994.

The song debuted on the Billboard Hot 100 at Number 71 in the week ending November 12th. It reached the top of the chart in the week ending January 28th, 1995, where it stayed for four weeks. Altogether, "Creep" stayed in the top 100 for 32 weeks!

Based on an experience of member Tionne "T-Boz" Watkins, the song is about a woman deciding to turn the tables on a cheating boyfriend by also cheating. Not everyone in the group was happy with the message, with Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes stating that in that situation, the woman should just leave.
3. 1996 - "One Sweet Day"

Answer: Mariah Carey & Boyz II Men

"One Sweet Day" was co-written by all of the artists, along with Walter Afanasieff, and released on November 14th as the second single from Carey's fifth studio album, "Daydream".

It *debuted* on the Billboard Hot 100 at Number One in the week ending December 2nd - only the fourth song to do that (but Mariah Carey's second after "Fantasy" in September of the same year). It spent 16 weeks at Number One before being bumped out by Celine Dion, and stayed in the top 100 for 27 weeks in total.

The song, about losing someone who you took for granted and then finally seeing them again in heaven, was also performed at Princess Diana's memorial in 1997.
4. 1997 - "Un-Break My Heart"

Answer: Toni Braxton

Written by Dianne Warren, "Un-Break My Heart" was recorded by Toni Braxton for her second studio album, "Secrets" and was the second single from that album, released on October 21st, 1996.

5. 1998 - "Together Again"

"Together Again" was released on December 2nd, 1997 as a single from her sixth studio album, "The Velvet Rope". It was her eighth song to reach Number One on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100.

The song debuted on the chart at Number Nine in the week ending December 20th and peaked at Number One in the week ending January 31st, 1998. It spent nearly a year in the top 100 - 46 weeks in total - finally dropping off the chart in early November.
6. 1999 - "...Baby One More Time"

Answer: Britney Spears

Originally styled as "Hit Me Baby One More Time", the song was written by Max Martin for the Backstreet Boys & TLC, who declined to record it, as did the British group Five. Spears, however, was just working on her first album after being 'discovered', and when it was offered to her to record, she jumped at the chance. Her producers, however, decided that it bespoke violence with the title as presented, so it was changed to "...Baby One More Time".

Released on October 23rd, 1998, the song was her debut single from her debut album, and it hit the Billboard Hot 100 with a strong placement at Number 17 in the week ending November 21st. It reached Number One in the week ending January 30th, 1999, staying there for two weeks and remaining in the top 100 for a total of 34 weeks.
7. 2000 - "I Knew I Loved You"

Answer: Savage Garden

"I Knew I Loved You" was Savage Garden's second single from their second studion album "Affirmation". And it was their second ever song to reach Number One on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 (after 1997's "Truly Madly Deeply").

"I Knew I Loved You" was released on September 28th, 1999, and made its debut on the Hot 100 at Number 71 in the week ending October 23rd. It reached Number One in the week ending January 29th, 2000, staying in the top spot for three weeks. Altogether, the song stayed in the top 100 for 33 weeks.
8. 2001 - "It Wasn't Me"

Answer: Shaggy, featuring Rickardo "RikRok" Ducent

"It Wasn't Me" came from Shaggy's fifth studio album "Hot Shot" as its first single, released for radio play in the summer of 2000, and not actually for retail until February of 2001.

It entered the Billboard Hot 100 at Number 57 in the week ending November 4th, and made it up to Number Two by mid-December before faltering. Then, in January of 2001 it finally made the final push, reaching the Number One spot in the week ending February 3rd, staying there for a two-week stint. Altogether, "It Wasn't Me" stayed on the chart for 25 weeks.

In the song, RikRok and Shaggy have a 'conversation' about getting caught in infidelity, and Shaggy's recommendation to RikRok is to deny everything with "It Wasn't Me".

Answer: Usher

Written by Jermaine Dupri and Bryan-Michael Cox, "U Got It Bad" was recorded by Usher for his third studio album "8701" and released as a single on September 4th, 2001. It became his second Number One Billboard Hot 100 hit from the same album, following "U Remind Me" in July.

"U Got It Bad" debuted at Number 93 in the week ending September 22nd and climbed the chart to reach Number One in the week ending December 15th. It only held the top spot for one week before being pushed back to Number Two (by Nickelback) until the week ending January 19th when it regained the Number One placement and held it for five weeks.
