Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. "..cause he's keepin' his eye on the kettle..."

Answer: Pull

This song was written in a New York city hotel room, it also came out of the Soup Sessions at Kingsway Studios in New Orleans.
2. "..I'm bearing the scars from it burning on me.."

Answer: The Duke

This song refers to a statue of an old king of hawaii. He invented surfing and his statue appears on a beach on the island. He was nicknamed "the duke" by locals. It was recorded at Kingsway Studios in New Orleans around Febuary of 1995.
3. "..Come to think of it I don't need your religion.."

Answer: Holyman

Recorded at London Bridge Studios in Seattle, WA sometime in 1992 .
4. "..Blood red sunshine, and a breath to air that's clean.."

Answer: Time

The band debated naming the song 'Time to Go', but later settled on just 'Time'. It was recorded at London Bridge Studios in Seattle, WA sometime in 1992.
5. "..The breeze that's blowin' through cannot be found.."

Answer: Lemonade

This song was written about a good, old-fashioned bar room brawl with police officers. It's just one of those silly drinking things. It was recorded at Kingsway Studios in New Orleans around Febuary of 1995.
6. "..You gotta do your best to decorate this dying' day.."

Answer: Soup

It was written right before the band performed at Woodstock. It was composed right around the time Kurt Cobain died. It also has to do with a family that lived near Shannon in Chicago that used to have a corner store named Tuttie's. This song was recorded at Kingsway Studios in New Orleans around Febuary 1995.
7. "..Anything, for anything, and ending up with nothing .."

Answer: Dumptruck

The end of the song ("and Bub I know that you could fly a mile high") is about Bub Cadwalder, a friend of Shannon's, who died from cancer.
It was recorded at Kingsway Studios in New Orleans around February 1995.
8. "..And there's a canopy of greed holding me down.."

Answer: Tones of Home

This song was the first single released from the self titled album. Brad wrote the last verse, Rogers wrote the middle verse, and Shannon wrote the first verse. So the song is sort of about their collective view of leaving their repressed, conservative environments and becoming more aware. This song reached #10 in the Mainstream Rock Chart and #20 in the Modern Rock Chart. There were two videos made for the single. It was recorded at London Bridge Studios in Seattle, WA sometime during 1992.
9. "..Where I could hum a tune anytime.."

Answer: I Wonder

The song is about Shannon's experiences in drug rehabilitation. There is a line in the song "rockin' back and forth's my life", and in the song Soup he uses the line "I want that rocking chair outta there
Cause he's no longer living here It's no longer needed here". Its always been my opinion that the line in Soup was Shannon's declaration of sobriety to himself after Kurt passed away. This song was recorded at London Bridge Studios in Seattle, WA sometime during 1992.
10. "..He says to me he's buying a new ride today.."

Answer: Drive

This song is about a co-worker of Shannon's who was an addict. He once said, "This song is about being in control when everyone else thinks you're not."
"Jimmy, we need to borrow this for a minute ..." is probably referring to Jimi Hendrix, because right after this verse they play a very well known riff from Jimi's song "Manic Depression". This song was recorded at London Bridge Studios in Seattle, WA sometime during 1992.
