Question 1 of 10
1. The song was written by Ernie Maresca and recorded by Dion. It made it to the number two position on the Hot 100.

[This'll be "a little ditty 'bout Jack and Diane", no scratch that, it was David not Diane. Two American students roaming/walking aimlessly through the Yorkshire moors. Note: Some future hints will be placed in the results page of the preceding question for those that want them. Some will be in the question section. Others will be sent telepathically. Get it?] Title. Please.

"Oh, well, there's Flo on my left and there's Mary on my right
And Janie is the girl, well, that I'll be with tonight
And when she asks me, which one I love the best?
I tear open my shirt and I show "Rosie" on my chest"
Hint

Question 2 of 10
2. Noel and Joe Sherman wrote it and Nat King Cole recorded it. It reached number two on the Hot 100 in 1962 proving smooth and mellow was still viable. But not for long (eerie music). A Nash might get it. Title me.

"Why I want you, heaven knows
Though I love you with a love true"
Hint

Question 3 of 10
3. Nominally written by Al Gentile, Al Striano, Joe Luccisano though it might have been Nick Santo alone. The Capris recorded it in 1961 and it made it to the number three spot on the Hot 100. Me: "The song is?" You?

"There's a (glow in my heart) whoa-oh-oh ooh
I never felt before
There's a (girl at my side) whoa-oh-oh ooh
That I adore
There's a glow in my heart I never felt before (ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh)"
Hint

Question 4 of 10
4. This song was written by Jerome Kern and Oscar Hammerstein II in 1932 for the musical "Music in the Air". Linda Scott resuscitated it and took it to number three on the Hot 100 in 1961. Are you bright? Tonight? Every one should get this.

"Friends ask me "Am I in love"
I always answer "Yes"
Might as well confess
If I don't they guess
Maybe you may know it too"
Hint

Question 5 of 10
5. This song was written by Ben E. King, Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller. Ben E. went to number four with it on the Hot 100 in 1961 and number one on the R&B chart. Free throw, so it is?

"When the night has come, and the way is dark,
And that moon is the only light you see.
No I won't be afraid, no I-I-I won't be afraid"
Hint

Question 6 of 10
6. Willie Nelson, author. In 1961 Patsy Cline's recording went to number nine on the Hot 100 and two on the Hot Country singles. Like, cool, man. Can you dig it?

"Worry
Why do I let myself worry?
Wondering
What in the world did I do?"
Hint

Question 7 of 10

So let us make a pledge
To meet in September"

Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
Please. "Oh, well, there's Flo on my left and there's Mary on my right And Janie is the girl, well, that I'll be with tonight And when she asks me, which one I love the best? I tear open my shirt and I show "Rosie" on my chest"

Answer: The Wanderer

The team of Dion and Maresca went to the top with "Runaround Sue". The Portuguese version, "O Lobo Mau", was a hit also and it is appropriate for this quiz. Eddie Rabbit went to number one on the Country chart with his version in 1988. Dion was the oldest of the Dion quintuplets. Eighty percent of these facts are true. Hopefully.

[Hint for two: Jack and David saw a local pub, the Slaughtered Lamb, and stopped at it. That was the new name. The former name was a beauty too, an American one. It was the one that Moses supposes his toeses to be.]
2. Noel and Joe Sherman wrote it and Nat King Cole recorded it. It reached number two on the Hot 100 in 1962 proving smooth and mellow was still viable. But not for long (eerie music). A Nash might get it. Title me. "Why I want you, heaven knows Though I love you with a love true"

Answer: Ramblin' Rose

The Nash Rambler was a car which devolved into the Yugo of its time. Not always just smooth and mellow though, Nat's King Cole Trio was jazz oriented. His song "Straighten up and Fly Right" was in the charts in 1944. The song was originally supposed to be, "Red, Right, Return" but the boating crowd was not significantly large enough to ensure its commercial success. The lyric was slightly different too. The primary difference between the versions was the latter was imaginary.

[Hint for three: The townspeople were in the pub, to a man, and for good reason. (Ladies's night wasn't 'til the weekend.) They had a secret. When Jack asked about the meaning of the candles and pentacles displayed, the atmosphere turned quiet (eerie music) and David and Jack decided to leave. They may have been less hasty if they had known that even a man who is pure in heart and says his prayers by night may become a wolf when the wolfbane blooms and ...]
3. Nominally written by Al Gentile, Al Striano, Joe Luccisano though it might have been Nick Santo alone. The Capris recorded it in 1961 and it made it to the number three spot on the Hot 100. Me: "The song is?" You? "There's a (glow in my heart) whoa-oh-oh ooh I never felt before There's a (girl at my side) whoa-oh-oh ooh That I adore There's a glow in my heart I never felt before (ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh)"

Answer: There's a Moon out Tonight

The lyric is better sung than it reads. Try it. This was pretty much it for the Capris, the group not the pants. The song was near the end of both the doo wop and strolling era. It was used in the movie "Meatballs III" which is incredible since it implies there was a Meatballs II. There were two uses in TV land, "The Sopranos" and "Call the MIdwife". One show takes place in England during the 1950s and 1960s while the other takes place in New Jersey in a more contemporay setting.

[Etc: They walked along the moors with the moon shining brightly playing "Heathcliff", which is the British version of I Spy. Then (more eerie music) they drifted off the road in spite of the night being partly cloudy with the full moon shining through as did the twinkling constellations.]
4. This song was written by Jerome Kern and Oscar Hammerstein II in 1932 for the musical "Music in the Air". Linda Scott resuscitated it and took it to number three on the Hot 100 in 1961. Are you bright? Tonight? Every one should get this. "Friends ask me "Am I in love" I always answer "Yes" Might as well confess If I don't they guess Maybe you may know it too"

Answer: I've Told Ev'ry Little Star

Most notably the song was used in the film "Mulholland Drive" directed by David Lynch. It starred Naomi Watts. She wore blue velvet. It was not the inspiration for Andrew Lloyd Webber's "Starlight Express".

[Etc: They heard an animal growling ahead and tried to back track but the growling remained in front of them. Finally they started running. David tripped and Jack helped him up. Jack is attacked by a large wolf while David runs off. Jack yells out to David and upon hearing this poignant plea runs back. Jack is a goner by the time he gets there. In fact parts of Jack were here, there and everywhere. David gets attacked. Townspeople shoot the wolf. Details at 11:00.]
5. This song was written by Ben E. King, Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller. Ben E. went to number four with it on the Hot 100 in 1961 and number one on the R&B chart. Free throw, so it is? "When the night has come, and the way is dark, And that moon is the only light you see. No I won't be afraid, no I-I-I won't be afraid"

Answer: Stand by Me

King's version made it to number nine in 1986 thanks to the tie in with the movie with the same name. The movie drove the sales of mailboxes through the roof too.

[Etc: While David is recuperating from his wounds in the hospital he gets a visit from Jack. Yeah, the dead one. When he questions his sanity, Jack sings, "Boy, boy, __________ boy, Get cool, boy! Got a rocket in your pocket, Keep coolly cool, boy!" So as would be expected this leads him to fall in love with his nurse, Alex, a woman, not a man. Non Seq.]
6. Willie Nelson, author. In 1961 Patsy Cline's recording went to number nine on the Hot 100 and two on the Hot Country singles. Like, cool, man. Can you dig it? "Worry Why do I let myself worry? Wondering What in the world did I do?"

Answer: Crazy

Did you get it? Crazy. The Linda Ronstadt version in 1977 went to number six on the Country chart. Guy Lombardo also recorded it too. Does anyone know who he was and what holiday he was associated with?

[Yul: They become more than friends, wink, wink, nudge nudge. As lovers are wont to do, they end each day this way. No, not like that. This site is PG so think PG. But the next full moon is near (eerier music)]
7. This song was written by Peter Udell and Gary Geld. Brian Hyland's version hit number three on the Hot 100 in 1962. Do you have it? "I don't wanna say good-bye for the summer Knowing the love we'll miss So let us make a pledge To meet in September"

Answer: Sealed with a Kiss

The song was originally recorded by the "Four Voices" who apparently appeared on the Arthur Godfrey show and in ice-shows and revues. Have any of their records? Me neither. Hyland was also responsible for "Itsy Bitsy Teenie Weenie Yellow Polka Dot Bikini"

[Brynner: Slow transformation into a wolf, bones stretching skin and then out to the streets of London for some fun. Much mayhem ensues. And as David tears into his writhing victims you hear the strains of this 1960s tune.]
8. Written by Bert Berns, Phil Medley, the Isley Brothers version made it to number 17 in 1962. It made number one on the R&B chart. Quite a difference. DO YOU GET IT!? "Come on, come on, come, come on baby now Come on and work it on out"

Answer: Twist and Shout

The Beatles' version made it to number two in 1964. Have any of their records? Me neither. The Isley Brothers tried capitalizing on this song with other "Twist" songs. Oddly enough, no "Shout" songs.

[The King: Most wolves do not wear clothing. So when David awoke, he is in his birthday suit. He steals some balloons to cover himself, then a coat from a woman and takes the tube back to the apartment. He puts the toothpaste down and knocks on the door and cries out, pleading. Getting no answer because Alex is out, he breaks in.]
9. "Whee-ooh, whee-ooh, hoop-whee-ooh) (Whee-ooh, whee-ooh, hoo-ooh-oop-whee-ooh, whee-ooh)" or as I remember it: "Wee oop, Wee oop, Oop wee oop Wee oop, Wee oop, ooh ooh oop wee oop"©

Answer: Let Me In

The lyric bit is not from a yodel. The lyric did set a personal record for most varied autocorrections offered by the demon in my computer. The song was used in the movie, "Shag".

[and I": Eventually he becomes aware that he has become a werewolf. Alex and he arrange to have him scratch her during his next transformation. They become wolf mates. Eventually they do great of deeds of charity, except for a few days a month. They are recognized as philanthropists and are awarded titles and they live happily ever after. The End.]
10. The song was written by Gene Chandler, Earl Edwards, Bernice Williams. Gene Chandler's version of the song was released at the end of 1961 and it made it to number one on both the pop and R&B charts. "And-a you, you are my girl And no one can hurt you, oh no Yes-a, I, oh I'm gonna love you, oh oh Come on let me hold you darlin'"

Answer: Duke of Earl

The wrong answers were songs by Pitney, not Chandler. The song is notable in that it was one of the songs played at Woodstock. Woodstock was Snoopy's friend. He whistled "O Mio Babbino Caro" from Puccini's "Gianni Schicchi" in a Charlie Brown TV special. O mio babbino caro roughly translates into "my dear Babe Ruth". Very roughly.

Another translation is "O my papa" which was a hit for Eddie Fisher. That was before he married Debbie Reynolds, Elizabeth Taylor, Connie Stevens and the list goes on. Fact: Eddie Fisher was not a werewolf.

This is a new high in fact falsehoods.
