Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. "So deep in your room, you never leave your room."

Answer: "What In The World"

Album: "Low"
Compared to the other tracks on the album, this one sounds very upbeat. This lyric deals with isolationism.
2. "Are you ok? You've been shot in the head."

Answer: "Seven Years In Tibet"

Album: "Earthling"
This is one of the best tracks on "Earthling". There is a great saxophone riff throughout, and the verses are quiet, almost spoken, until breaking into the raging chorus. There was a video to go along with this song but it was seldom shown. It consists of bits taken from live performances.
3. "Look out your window, I can see his li-i-ight. If we can sparkle, he may land toni-i-ight."

Answer: "Starman"

Album: "The Rise And Fall Of Ziggy Stardust And The Spiders From Mars"
This song was first shown to the public with a live performance by David Bowie and The Spiders From Mars on the Top Of The Pops t.v. show. Bowie was dressed in a shimmering jumpsuit of many colours and his red hair perfect.
4. "Someone like you should not be allowed to start any fires."

Answer: "Win"

Album: "Young Americans"
This song is a beautiful track, but was never performed live, and didn't receive the appreciation it deserved.
5. "And the walls shall have eyes and the doors shall have ears."

Answer: "Slow Burn"

Album: "Heathen"
This song was the first single on "Heathen". With searing guitar from Pete Townshend (The Who), and Bowie's great vocals, it is one of the best songs on this album. A clip of this song is featured in the 60 minute "Heathen" commercial Bowie created instead of doing videos.
6. "So she sighed like Twig the Wonder Kid and turned her face away."

Answer: "Drive In Saturday"

Album: "Aladdin Sane"
This song was strangly not included in any of Bowie's Greatest Hits albums until just recently. It was an immediate single when released, but nearly almost forgotten afterwards.
7. "Oh, by jingo."

Answer: "After All"

Album: "The Man Who Sold The World"
This track is surprisingly gentle when compared with the rest of its parent album.
8. "My, my, smile at least."

Answer: "Beauty And The Beast"

Album: "Heroes"
This track is one of the most synthesized on the album. There are a number of sounds to be heard on this track.
9. "It's not the side effects of the cocaine, I'm thinking that it must be love."

Answer: "Station To Station"

Album: "Station To Station"
This song introduces the haunting character of The Thin White Duke and was the beginning of Bowie's break from his cocaine addiction. A lip-synched performance of this song appeared on the German film "Christiane F."
10. "When comes the shaking man, a nation in his eyes."

Answer: "Jump They Say"

Album: "Black Tie, White Noise"
This song finally comes to terms with how Bowie felt about his half-brother Terry's death. Terry Burns commited suicide by jumping in front of a train in 1985. A wonderful video accompanies this song featuring Bowie on top of a building and being experimented on.
11. "I'm the twisted name on Garbo's eyes, living proof of Churchill's lies, I'm destiny."

Answer: "Quicksand"

Album: "Hunky Dory"
This song is mostly about politics and the idea that they have you in "Quicksand".
12. "Oh my, naked eyes, I should have kept you, I should have tried."

Answer: "Survive"

Album: "hours..."
This track begins with a lovely twelve-string guitar intro by Bowie. In the video for "Survive" Bowie is shown sitting in a small kitchen, waiting for an egg to boil. Suddenly, the egg begins to float out of the pot and into mid-air, followed by the table in front of Bowie, Bowie's chair, and then Bowie. At the end, everything returns back to normal.
13. "They tell me I can go, they tell me I can blow, to the far side of town."

Answer: "All The Madmen"

Album: "The Man Who Sold The World"
It is widely accepted that the inspiration for this song came from Bowie's half-brother Terry Burns, who by 1970 had been confined to a mental hospital.
14. "Sending me so far away."

Answer: "Little Wonder"

Album: "Earthling"
This song was one of "Earthling"'s major hits. The brilliant video, featuring Bowie in crazy-cool outfits against a fast-flashing backround of cars on a busy street, and even a Ziggy clone only helped this song to be a bigger hit.
15. "You're squawking like a pink monkey bird, and I'm busting up my brains for the words."

Answer: "Moonage Daydream"

Album: "The Rise And Fall Of Ziggy Stardust And The Spiders From Mars"
This track was written well before it was featured on "Ziggy Stardust". Another version of it can be found as a bonus track on the Ryko release of "The Man Who Sold The World".
16. "I bet you laugh out loud at me, a chance to strike me down."

Answer: "I Would Be Your Slave"

Album: Heathen
This song was performed in front of an audience before being released in the "Heathen" album in 2002.
17. "As the pain sweeps through makes no sense for you."

Answer: "As The World Falls Down"

Album: "Labyrinth"
This very pretty love ballad works perfectly into the story of "Labyrinth", in which it plays during a dream sequence where Bowie, head to toe in glamorous decor, dances with a Jennifer Connelly, also very glamourous in her ball gown, through admiring crowds at a masked ball.
18. "We like dancing and we look divine."

Answer: "Rebel Rebel"

Album: "Diamond Dogs"
Released two months ahead of its parent album, this song gave little indication of the gloomyness that was to come next from David Bowie. The video shows Bowie as a Ziggy Stardust Pirate, titled Halloween Jack.
19. "Jasmine, I saw you peeping."

Answer: "Always Crashing In The Same Car"

Album: "Low"
This song was a late addition to "Low" and largly refers to an unfortunate incident in which Bowie drunkenly sold off his 1950's Mercedes.
20. "She had a horror of rooms, she was tired, and you can't hide beat."

Answer: "Scary Monsters And Super Creeps"

Album: Scary Monster And Super Creeps
The title track and third single from "Scary Monsters".
