Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. 1969

Answer: Ticket to Ride / Offering

They initially released it as 'Offering' on October 9, 1969, but it was poorly received. It was a commercial failure until it was renamed to 'Ticket to Ride'.
2. 1970

Answer: Close to You

Not only did this album peak at number two on the Billboard 200, it also ranks at 175th of Rolling Stones Magazine's list of the 500 greatest albums of all time in 2003.
3. 1971

Answer: Carpenters

This album won the Grammy Award for Best Pop Vocal Performance by a Duo Or Group in 1972.
4. 1972

Answer: A Song for You

According to Richard Carpenter, the album 'A Song for You' had the intention of being a concept album with the title tune opening and closing the album and the rest comprising the 'song'.
5. 1973

Answer: Now & Then

The title was suggested by Karen and Richard's mother Agnes, instead of Richard and Karen themselves. The inspiration was taken from a leftover song that did not appear on the album.
6. 1975

Answer: Horizon

After five consecutive albums peaking inside the US top five from 1969-1973, Horizon broke this trend by only peaking at number 13.
7. 1976

Answer: A Kind of Hush

By the time of the album's recording, Richard Carpenter's addiction to Quaaludes had begun to affect him professionally, and he blames this for the album being, in his opinion, sub-par.
8. 1977

Answer: Passage

This is the only Carpenters album (other than their Christmas albums) not to contain any songs written by Richard Carpenter or John Bettis.
9. 1978

Answer: Christmas Portrait

The album includes a revised version of their signature Christmas song, 'Merry Christmas Darling'. This was re-recorded at Karen's request.

12. 1984

It included several unused tracks from their previous Christmas album, 'Christmas Portrait'.
13. 1989

Answer: Lovelines

14. 1996

Answer: Karen Carpenter

15. 2001/2004
