Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Trespass
Answer: Genesis
Released in 1970, "Trespass" was the second studio album by Genesis. The line up included Anthony Phillips on guitar and John Mayhew on drums - both would be replaced, by Steve Hackett and Phil Collins, in time for the band's next release, "Nursery Cryme". "Trespass" failed to chart in the UK until 1984, when it made number 98.
The best known track on the album is "The Knife", which was a live favourite of the band for many years.
2. Caress of Steel
Answer: Rush
"Caress of Steel", released in 1975, was the third studio album by Canadian band Rush. It reached number 60 in their home country, but only got to number 148 in the US, and failed to chart altogether in the UK. One track, "The Fountain of Lamneth", took up the entire second side of the vinyl version of the album.
3. Virtual XI
Answer: Iron Maiden
Released in 1998, "Virtual XI" was Iron Maiden's eleventh studio album, and the second (and last) to feature Blaze Bayley on vocals. It was the only the second Iron Maiden album to fail to crack the UK top ten, peaking at number 16, whilst in the USA it stalled at number 124. Two singles were taken from the album, "The Angel and the Gambler" and "Futureal".
4. Get Your Wings
Answer: Aerosmith
"Get Your Wings", released in 1974, was the second studio album by Aerosmith. It stalled at number 74 on the US Billboard chart, and failed to chart at all in the UK. Best known track on the album was the live staple "Same Old Song and Dance".
5. Time and a Word
Answer: Yes
"Time and a Word", released in 1970, was the second studio album by Yes. It was their last album to feature Peter Banks on lead guitar before he was replaced by Steve Howe. The album made it to number 45 in the UK but failed to chart in the USA. The title track, along with "Sweet Dreams", were released as singles.
6. Stormwatch
Answer: Jethro Tull
"Stormwatch", released in 1979, was Jethro Tull's twelfth studio album. It was the last to include John Glascock on bass guitar. The album was their first to fail to crack the US top twenty since their 1968 debut album "This Was", stalling at number 22. In the UK, it reached number 27.
7. Never Say Die!
Answer: Black Sabbath
Released in 1978, "Never Say Die!" was the eighth studio album by Black Sabbath, and the last to feature Ozzy Osbourne on vocals prior to his 2013 comeback. Although it made a respectable number 12 in the UK, the album only reached number 69 in the USA. Two songs, the title track and "Hard Road", made the UK singles chart.
8. The Battle Rages On
Answer: Deep Purple
"The Battle Rages On" was released in 1993, and was the fourteenth studio album by Deep Purple. This would be the last album to feature the "classic" Mk II line-up of Ian Gillan, Ritchie Blackmore, Jon Lord, Ian Paice and Roger Glover. It's highest UK chart position of 21 was the lowest of any album by this particular version of the band, whilst it virtually disappeared without trace in America, only reaching number 192 on the Billboard chart.
9. Jugulator
Answer: Judas Priest
Released in 1997, "Jugulator" was Judas Priest's thirteenth studio album, and the first of two featuring Tim "Ripper" Owens on lead vocals whilst Rob Halford was pursuing other projects. The album failed to chart at all in the UK, but did make it to number 82 in the USA. There were two singles released from the album, "Bullet Train" and "Burn in Hell".
10. Boy
Answer: U2
U2 released their debut album "Boy" in 1980. The album made number 52 in the UK and 63 in the USA, but performed much better in Ireland and Canada. Tracks such as "I Will Follow" and "Electric Co." would become live favourites down the years.
